the closest thing to wrecking an actual Ferrari
miglaugh @ Apr 5th 2008 1:11AM
This is good news... but based on how long it takes them to perfect things, I'll believe that time frame when I see it.
Once that download is available though, they can have my money.
I'm just not the kind of person who can play a racing game 100% for the racing; it's too boring. I need to be able to go reverse and cause a 20 car pile-up if I want.
To those racing purists, I'm not going to join your online races just to fuck them up, I just want to be able to play around on my own time, and have the online racing be as realistic as possible when I DO want to race serious; and to me, that must include damage.
miglaugh @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:41PM
This comment system is broken... I have my credentials saved, and it said it sent me an email to confirm anyway, but there was no email sent.
Guess theres no point in commenting anymore.
Fraser JK @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:06PM
Yeah happened to me loads... just never bothered complaining.
What was the post about again? LOL!
Dahk @ Apr 4th 2008 9:42AM
Yeah, I find that... there's several words that somehow screws up the system. Maybe its some kind of word filter or can't handle some punctuations or... something or other. And then when that happens, it just screws your post over and tells you that you need to confirm via email, when no email is sent =P. But then sometimes it'll appear after like an hour anyway. *sighhhh*
Anyway, eh I'm not that excited about damage. I mean if you REALLY want to see damage, then other more arcadey games like Burnout are meant for you. You'll get way more satisfaction. This is meant FIRST to be a racing sim, not a trashing car sim. I've always used the example: I don't wanna take a corner too fast cuz I'm trying to cut seconds... on lap 29/30 and fail and die cuz I slammed into a wall.
never$$hort @ Apr 4th 2008 2:55PM
Ahhh... It does it to me too.. The thing is that it usually does it when I write a 2 paragraph post or something.. I've learned to use the copy function and then just keep trying to paste it back in over and over... frustrating
playcrackthesky @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:43PM
Damn. I dont want damage in prologue. I dont even see the big fuss. This isnt burnout. We just need better penalising systems online, is all.
If however damage -wil-l be done, it needs to be done properly and to do that ill be very happy if they just left that for the FULL verion of GT5...not via a download for prologue.
massive_98 @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:57PM
This news makes me think GT5 will land in 2009.
Da @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:52PM
Umm.. I thought the news that GT5 was landing in about a years time would have made you think that. No?
TinyTim121 @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:18PM
I hope you can turn it on or off. Sometimes i like the idea of driving and not really having huge amounts of damage.
Then again, i just can't say no to a 2-player split screen head on collision with a Ferrari and an Aston.
OTAM @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:28PM
Downloadable?
Way to give the people who don't have internet half of a game.
miglaugh @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:20PM
welcome to the 21st century, and being left behind.
Dustin Burke @ Apr 4th 2008 2:43AM
If you think about it, GT5 Prologue is already really half of a game, and you're getting half of that, so...
Eggy @ Apr 4th 2008 7:00AM
Who doesn't have an internet connection these days? Besides you could always ask someone to put it on a mem chip.
Flame @ Apr 5th 2008 1:11AM
My guess is that damage is not going to be "sensational" ala Flatout/Dirt/Motorstorm, but rather "classy" to suit the game. Like dented bumpers, panels, etc. Not exploding hailstorms of metal shards.
leiwei @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:41PM
Damage system isn't going to cut it. People will still complain. GT is such a household name that people expect lots out of it. Remember how people kept complaining about GT not having in-cockpit view? GT5p finally has it and nobody is praising it. Instead, people are just complaining about its lack of damage. It has penalty doesn't it? When this damage modeling comes as a downloadable update, people will just start complaining about how it lacks weather. I'm not knocking on GT, but the hate for it is what I read on the web. People go so far to proclaim PGR as graphically better than GT5p but come on... I have both. I know which one's graphically better and technologically superior. But despite PGR having cars with less polygons than GT5p, some funky damage system that doesn't affect gameplay, and an arcade-like driving mechanic that makes it so fun, it's somehow visioned as the better racing game over GT. It's not a racing sim. It's a racing game. But somehow it's better! What's up with that? I remember someone stating how PGR4 has different independent reflections on each mirror compared to GT5p. I say "Hello, open your eyes and play GT5p again and check those mirrors."
I love PGR and I love GT. They're my favorite "driving" games. But I really don't understand how some of these people can claim PGR is graphically better. The weather system must be enough to deceive the eyes.
Btw, I'm still standing firm on my belief that damage modeling won't satiate everybody and that there'll still be complaints made about how GT5p still lacks something like still using 2D trees instead of 3D. Heck if it's not broke don't fix it. *Puts on flame shield*
Imperitor @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:50PM
^Agreed
People bash GT way to much. It's got way more features, more cars, better physics, better replay value, etc, etc, then any game I know. And now they added online racing, in-car view, damage, better physics, amazing graphics and so on. People are still saying its missing things!? Whatever, I'm sure everyone will still buy it.
Eggy @ Apr 4th 2008 7:01AM
I don't see GT5 being bashed at all, well not counting fanboys. There isn't much to complain about, I haven't played a racing game this detailed before and the sales are not too shabby either.
leiwei @ Apr 4th 2008 7:05AM
Hey Eggy, go hop on over to n4g and you'll see what i mean. Constant complaints about the game being too colorful, using 2D trees, no in-game custom soundtrack, no online lobbies, no weather, no real looking people, no McDonalds, no PizzaHut. =D
You know I don't mind at all, I love the game for what it is and what PD plans to bring out. I just wonder what complaints we'll be seeing once most everything above comes to light. Maybe "No Lambos and No Porsches?!?!"
Vcize @ Apr 4th 2008 10:39AM
Yeah, I'm not sure what you guys are complaining about. Plenty of people have said they are stoked for the cockpit view.
This is par for the course for any big name AAA title. No game is perfect and when a game is center stage its "faults" (even if some of them aren't really faults) are going to be discussed.
Eggy @ Apr 5th 2008 6:40AM
Well some of the issues you mention are valid complaints, it's not bashing. You just have to decide for yourself if those issues are so important to you that you're willing to miss out on this brilliant game.
Syn @ Apr 5th 2008 1:11AM
Tsk tsk. If I wanted to simulate damage, I'd play Burnout. If I want a Racing Simulation where the main focus is driving WELL, and not getting into situations where damage would actually play a role I'd play GT. Now if we are talking minor nicks and scraps then I'm all for it. But if its "Head-on, parts flying nonsense" Then no thanks.
Da @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:53PM
Well you can wait and rebuy the prepatched version if you prefer.
Da @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:55PM
Well people who can't play GT on their system would say that.
Joe @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:59PM
That's going to be a huge download depending on the detail put into damage...
efreet @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:19PM
Not necessarily. The damage will be all mathematical and the models of each car you all ready have . So the bonnet of the car that crumples will depend on the velocity, angle, force of collision and whatnot to make it happen. Throw in some particle effects here and there and there you have it. But i could be wrong.
Joe @ Apr 5th 2008 1:33AM
Wow, I had no idea that it was done like that!
Thanks :)
halebound00 @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:07PM
Ok, this has nothing to do with this article, but has anyone else noticed that you can no longer charge your PSP when the PS3 is turned off since installing 2.20. That really sucks. Why would they take that away? Oh well, I guess I have something to use my Wii for now.
scotrulz10 @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:08PM
Nice
Greg @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:08PM
When GT meets Burnout ? Does this means that if I wreck my car the race is over ? Would it cost money to repair the car ? Can I bet money on a race to make more money ?
I can't wait to get this game !!
Vcize @ Apr 4th 2008 10:41AM
If we can get a patch that adds damage to cars and fixes the gimped online all in one that's going to make this game even more epic.
never$$hort @ Apr 4th 2008 2:50PM
This is good... I've had several friends say they don't want GT5 unless there is damage... Well, here it is!!! Personally I want it too but was going to get it either way, damage or not.
