New PSN Store screenshots reveal preview button; video coming next week
The PlayStation Store may not have updated yesterday, but Grace Chen still managed to get a post up on the PlayStation.Blog. In it she reminds us that Warhawk is still only $29.99 (and, therefore, must be immediately purchased by those who still don't have it) as well as revealing a few new screens of the PSN Store redesign. We've added these to the gallery below and look forward to seeing the Store in motion when a video goes up on the PlayStation.Blog sometime next week.
One of the screenshots reveals a "preview" button which, Chen confirms in the comments, will show off some some of the game's visuals to help people make a purchase decision. While the current store already has screenshots embedded in the item description, it seems that content will now be able to have video previews as well. This will make it much easier to see whether a game might be worth grabbing or not.

how about having an actual demo for every psn game? instead of a few screen shots.
jtedesco33 @ Apr 4th 2008 8:58AM
I agree a game could like great graphics wise and suck balls. This is stupid there is no reason not to have demos like XBL.
chimaera9 @ Apr 4th 2008 8:42AM
Always a dissenter, no matter how good the improvement. I think having game videos is a great plus, and while a demo is ideal, of course, having game videos up might be a further draw towards at least considering downloading a demo. And not all games are going to have demos, so this feature is great--hopefully they'll use it for all games.
RealDoubleJ @ Apr 4th 2008 9:03AM
well...I do remember a good 5 years of spending £5 a month to get the official playstation magazine just for a demo disc. Surely Sony have got all those demos kicking about somewhere, how hard would it be to upload the demos of PS1 games??
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Apr 4th 2008 9:46AM
No offense RealDoubleJ, but I think PS1 demos on PSN is asking a bit too much. The 360 doesn't have demos for it's Xbox Originals games, so I really don't see any reason why Sony should do it for their almost 10+ year old games.
While I'd love to have PSN Demos of games like flOw and PixelJunk Monsters and other stuff like that, I don't see it as much of an annoyance for them not being there. Plus, I think previews will be a very nice solution to this.

There is a demo available for PJ Monsters here in the US....it's what made my girlfriend want to buy it....had it just been a video, I highly doubt she would've bought it unless she was really bored and had $10 to throw around.....but videos are a plus!
Dahk @ Apr 4th 2008 9:26AM
Eh, the UK cover of GT5:P looks hawter than ours =(.
ClarkyCat @ Apr 4th 2008 9:54AM
Well the one thing us Euros can brag about is always getting the best cover art! Of course you get price, release dates, supply, preferential treatment, Blu-Ray region sharing with Japan, and basically anything else good that isn't cover art.
I like how the new interface looks, I wonder how awful it will be on an SDTV though. The current store is a trainwreck, 3 items per page. Ugh. I know it's a HD-geared console but have a little consideration for those of us who spent the HDTV money on the console itself!
Devin @ Apr 4th 2008 10:16AM
OMG! PS3 + no HDTV device + no 5.1+ surround sound system = Horror!!!!
You do have a good sound system hooked up to it, right?
Popfrogs @ Apr 4th 2008 11:19AM
@Devin: I know right? It's like owning a lamborghini but only driving it on gravel roads with cheap Kumho tires on 88 octane fuel. You have to get all the pieces together to enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed.
I started with an Aquos tv, added a (cheap-ish) Yamaha 5.1 home theater system, then got a PS3 on launch day. That's the way Sony intended it.
ClarkyCat @ Apr 4th 2008 11:26AM
I know, I'm a horrible person! I don't have enough money to get a TV worthy of the PS3. I'm not getting a cheap, 720p interim either. Because that would take money from the 1080p fund and just delay the purchase longer, and due to the fact that I don't have digital TV either, analogue TV looks freakin' atrocious on cheap HDTVs.
That and the fact I'm considering emigrating is somewhat delaying my decision. But I had to get a PS3 on launch day, regardless what I was going to play it on.
Oh and sound system? 2X 10w in built speakers D:

??
They're both the same.

I asked this in the blog but I think Grace stopped answering questions, so hopefully it's a question that has already been addressed.
The question is, since the store isn't web-based anymore, will Remote Play with the PSP still allow us to go into the store and download? Anyone know?
ClarkyCat @ Apr 4th 2008 1:48PM
I don't see why not - you can run F@H via Remote Play so the store should be no different. There might be a simultaneous firmware update for compatibility or whatnot but I'm guessing there should be no problems. Well, hoping!
Otsego_Undead @ Apr 4th 2008 12:14PM
well hopefully they'll also roll out more servers or bandwidth or whatever to support that "preview" feature.... downloading ANYTHING from the PSN is S L O W.
mike @ Apr 4th 2008 12:41PM
I agree video's will help, but demos are a better idea.
For me PJM looked retarded when I downloaded the videos, but it wasn't until I downloaded the demo I realized I liked the game. So I bought it. Now it's too damn hard and I hate it.
never$$hort @ Apr 4th 2008 2:44PM
Too dam hard?? don't be such a pussy... Challenges are good for the soul.. haha
Popfrogs @ Apr 4th 2008 8:10PM
I share your pain, I must confess I'm a PJ:M retard also. I haven't rainbowed all the easy levels yet and maybe beat 1 or 2 on medium. Oh well, it's still fun to try.
Devin @ Apr 4th 2008 1:58PM
Too damn hard? LOL It just takes time and multiple tries sometimes to know what to expect.....honestly, at least it isn't dynamic where monsters changed their "game plan" every retry....now that would get on my nerves....
