European MGS4 box art looks sketchy
No seriously. Compared to the realistic US box art, Europe's box art takes favor of a more artistic rendition of Old Snake. Discovered on both amazon's German website and Game.co.uk, we're thinking this is legit. [Update: It is.] Do our readers favor this over the US art? Seems like many of most vocal readers would say "yes."

It looks more like the older MGS boxes.
MGS2 http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/d/db/250px

So yeah, for me i like it more than the US, simply because i prefer the EU MGS box look

I think they need to wait POST Solid Snake era before changing the cover schemes of their box art. They've always been artistic abstract renderings with the traditional Metal Gear logo, subtitle, and all kind of go together. The new US one is kind of a wrench in the gears.
Doesn't look BAD, but just doesn't match the others and sticks out like a sore thumb if you were to have the whole collection.
hey_big_dck psn:fuliano626 @ Apr 7th 2008 11:37AM
its supposed to stick out cause its the last in the series.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Apr 7th 2008 12:06PM
Yeah thats the whole point. The style is different because the game is different and its actually looking like the last.
Organic_Shadow @ Apr 7th 2008 10:48PM
How is the game different? Other than it being the "next mg" game and being the last in the solid series? That's enough to justify pulling a combo breaker on a great graphic design scheme for the boxart?
I think it would be MORE beneficial if they used this art style for the box art one last time- seeing as it would match with Solid Snake going on his one last mission correct?
Michael Solomon @ Apr 7th 2008 11:37AM
Oh yeah that box is sweet, I don't have an issue with the other, but this one fits alot better
Nick @ Apr 7th 2008 11:40AM
just fits the audience perfect. when i think of solid snake, its on ps1 with the communicator and the pixelated image of snake. just not that he is older.
The US one fits perfect with them, they all like glossy graphicy things... just works perfect, kojima rules ;)
Russ @ Apr 7th 2008 11:43AM
Americans need their box art to be flashy, 3D looking etc otherwise it doesn't grab their attention :-P
Jason B. @ Apr 7th 2008 11:46AM
Why does this one have Kojima Production's logo, but the US one doesn't?
Drake @ Apr 7th 2008 11:55AM
I actually think the U.S. one is better. This one doesnt stand out as much because apart from the sketch the box is completely black. The other really showcases what's happened to snake, every pore he's gained due to his premature aging.
Matthew @ Apr 7th 2008 12:06PM
I could care less what the box art looks like. It wouldn't bother me if it had a picture of Richard Simmons riding a pink hippo jumping over the moon. I just care about what happens when I put the disc in.
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 7th 2008 1:00PM
YOU WILL EXPLODE!!!
Glen @ Apr 7th 2008 12:27PM
I like this better than the American version. But, I'm getting the limited edition MGS4 so I don't care!
Aysir @ Apr 7th 2008 12:43PM
I've always liked the euro ones better and this one is no exception. Very stylish.
The american one isn't bad either this time, but the style of art is just awesome.
chris.westermann @ Apr 7th 2008 12:47PM
They could wrap the game in a smelly dirty sock for all I care, just release the damn game! Who cares about the box art?
Kira @ Apr 7th 2008 1:10PM
Big fans who have their boxes sitting on a shelf as a display. People who held onto their VR missions and cruise ebay looking for a reasonable copy of MGS3:Subsistence limited.

i hope this is the box art, i really like it
especially compared to the damn creepy american one /)n(\
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 7th 2008 1:00PM
Can't wait for this game :)
Logan @ Apr 7th 2008 1:05PM
actually this doesn't match the other box art, but it does pertain to the game. this is actually a reference to the cover art of the vr missions game from ps1, and i think it was also the same image of the title screen after you beat the first metal gear solid game. i dig this much more than the realistic version because of that. but who cares? it's not like someone isn't going to buy the game because of the cover art.
Logan @ Apr 7th 2008 1:10PM
actually with that rightious mustache, i think tom selleck would make a good candidate for the movie. :D
Lungkisser @ Apr 7th 2008 1:16PM
I'd much rather have that box art over the current U.S. box art, especially considering the fact that it'd go perfect with the Metal Gear Solid Collection I just bought, which uses that style of artwork.
deafraiders @ Apr 7th 2008 2:32PM
As an EU gamer, i prefer the US box art its more realistic.
rgoff31 @ Apr 7th 2008 1:43PM
I don't care about the box art, it is about the game not the box art, but I think the classic Euro design is nicer.
doc j @ Apr 7th 2008 1:40PM
Yeah, I like it more than the American version - but the game is the same either way and that is what matters to me.
eclipse27 @ Apr 7th 2008 1:56PM
first of all its about the game, not the box art....having said that i prefer the US version for this reason
To me the US PS3 box art signifies that................ITS ON THE PS3 not the PS1 or PS2 (i have them all dont a need a MGS Collection disk)....some clown earlier said that americans need glossy and shiny stuff to be noticed.......that is BS for one and i think just that the US box art indicated the next stage of the series....infact the final stage.....
The most important is for all of us to enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4 beginning June 12 all over the world and only on the PlayStation 3....
THATS ALL THAT MATTERS :)
kevin @ Apr 7th 2008 2:03PM
oh my god does it really matter? geez its not like your going to be starring at the damn box...
Quantum @ Apr 7th 2008 2:43PM
Snake looks like Dan Sutherland in the US one
KidQwik @ Apr 7th 2008 2:53PM
Umm. I like the US version better. Of course what's more important to me is HOW THE GAME LOOKS AND PLAYS then some freeeeekkin box artwork! Ya think??
sicklesdawg @ Apr 7th 2008 3:13PM
C'mon the other U.S box-art caters to Graphic Whores

.
Oh...Wait.
Roto13 @ Apr 7th 2008 4:13PM
Way better than the American art.
DrunkRaba @ Apr 7th 2008 8:12PM
US box is much nicer to look at.
Kiddie @ Apr 7th 2008 8:30PM
I prefer this cover. I might have to get the US version anyway just incase the Australian version is censored like GTAIV is.
I don't know about any of you but this censoring thing is keeping me up at night. I don't want to have to miss out on any part of a game, no matter how small it is. I want to have the whole thing!
Now I've got to do extra research on every MA15+ game that gets released here, just to check if anything has been edited/removed before I buy it! (off topic sorry)
MetalKingSlime @ Apr 8th 2008 3:37AM
sweet lookin cover.
Laurens Holst @ Apr 8th 2008 7:56PM
Even though I don’t really ‘hate’ the US box art (it is ok), I’m glad to be living in Europe :). It looks cool!
