It's a shame that these Dali-inspired adverts, made by the Chilean advertising agency
BBDO Chile, probably won't be put into circulation outside of South America. But that's also a good thing. We can't help but feel that while these images (second one after the break) look absolutely stunning, there's also something innately unsettling about them. Regardless, they certainly portray the feel of the PS3 and if you saw them on a billboard, it would be hard not to stop and take notice.

That is amazing from a visual and technical standpoint.
Knighthawk @ Apr 7th 2008 7:45AM
Way better then those stupid white room ads!
Tony @ Apr 7th 2008 8:21AM
"Regardless, they certainly portray the feel of the PS3..."
The feel of the PS3 is a post-apocalyptic dystopia nightmare involving idolatry to young women and baseball players???
Dan @ Apr 7th 2008 8:27AM
I was thinking the same.. this images are stunning with out a doubt...but I dont get that PS3 feeling..
Dear Sony,
What are you on...you can tell me...I won't be mad at you..
Your loyal customer,

yea gorgeous images but it looks like it should promote a game not a console.
Alex @ Apr 7th 2008 8:52AM
Dali-Inspired?? What the hell are you talking about?
Nothing about either of those images has anything to do with Dali....
Dali was a surrealist.
This just looks like people building a statue in a gloomy city. Nothing surreal about it.
Sietse Buter @ Apr 7th 2008 9:09AM
I think it looks like Nazi-Germany. Why?
Just look at the second picture, those flags are the same as Nazi-Germany flags. Only difference is that they put a normal cross and a circle in them
John @ Apr 7th 2008 12:07PM
The X is from the controller. If you look at the right, there's a flag with a triangle, and in front, a soldier has a square on his armband. But still, I'm not too keen on the Nazi vibe in these ads either.
Dahk @ Apr 7th 2008 9:18AM
Eh, no wonder why the hand is on the ground and not attached.
Someone screwed up and made it too gigantic.
Dyson @ Apr 7th 2008 9:20AM
I liked the theory that these ads were related to trophies and that thing that inevitably always ends up being brought up... much to the chagrin of all... Home. Sad to see that theory fall through.

Ok I'm going to look at these pictures outside of the box for a bit... I think what the artist was trying to display is a "work in progress" if you look at both the statues of the boy and the girl they are putting it together meaning the progress of the PS3. The metaphor of the post apolcalyptic world is in relation to the "counsol war" and it does look very WWII'ish but that's awesome because it was considered "The Great War" and so is this current next gen war.
If you look closely at the people within the pics that are putting the statues together they don't look normal they almost look like someone said "Nazi's" but this isn't because they are racist or evil but rather the outcast of the current next gen's.. Think about it.. at the outset of the next gen Sony was looked upon as a flop, people said the PS3 would die and it was overpriced blah blah blah so they are the outcasts struggling to come back and this depicts the turning point *the year 2008* Overall I think the pics kick ass because that's what I see!!
I'm sorry If I went a little toooo deep but I'm an artist!! LoL Let me know what you think? I'm I spot on or off my rocker a bit!! ha ha
smudgedesign @ Apr 8th 2008 4:45AM
Surely this is a representation of what's going on inside the PS3 no? The player being god right or is that being too obvious???
John @ Apr 7th 2008 9:50AM
These are scenes from a level in Resistance 2 ;)
JoJo @ Apr 7th 2008 10:05AM
gaw dang!! speaking of Resistance 2... i cannot WAIT!! WOW!! LONG ASS WAY .. couple of months left .. darn it!! i hope there will be a demo
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Apr 7th 2008 10:32AM
Imagine if this is what HOME's final product looked like. You're all living in a crumbling appartment with darkness. LOL
JaseH @ Apr 7th 2008 11:07AM
The statues are of people playing PS3...
I have a feeling the advert portrays a "Immerse yourself in gaming" feel... as if you take a step out of reality once you take on the advantage of the PS3
JaseH @ Apr 7th 2008 11:09AM
*continued*
.... and it's games. The first one has a "God of war" feel... the second has a "WII" feel...
Maybe we will see more based on different genre's?... Id love that. I love these art works, they're great. Beautiful.
More of this Sony.

look a little bit closer...
it seems that the first picture is in a "God of War" setting, there are "X" "O" and "Square" markings around the base of the girl statue. its also interesting to note the infrastructure that they are using to build the statue, it is a lot older tech then they are using to build the second one.
In the second one, it is a "Resistance" setting with newer technology, circa 1942, building the statue.
Im not sold on the depiction of the console war just yet, but it is an interesting take, and does make some sense.
Varone @ Apr 7th 2008 12:00PM
These are almost as good as those WHITE POWER! billboards for the PSP. I seriously can't beleive they put that up...
glenn @ Apr 7th 2008 12:18PM
virial marketing.
Both characters being built are holding PS3 sixasis'.
There are hidden X, Square, O and triangles in both pics.
Agreed it looks cool.
EDW @ Apr 7th 2008 12:21PM
at least they're not rediculously stupid like those white room things. they actually look very cool.
Tyba @ Apr 7th 2008 1:32PM
I see God of War and Resistance being pushed pretty heavily in these images... maybe it's just me.
Thumbs up though, I did the imagery.
Tyba @ Apr 7th 2008 1:33PM
woah, woah...
I DIG the imagery...
sicklesdawg @ Apr 7th 2008 3:13PM
New PC and Notebook wallpaper!!!
Sucks i wont see this on a U.S billboard
Sauvage @ Apr 7th 2008 3:45PM
By the look of the colours, they are using the standard NEXT GEN colour filters.
crotchdot @ Apr 8th 2008 1:17AM
I'm with everyone else here, why couldn't they just be like everyone else and have some annoying d*ck screaming at us about their insane prices. Stupid Sony, why do you have to be so different all the time?
Adam @ Apr 8th 2008 10:25PM
Did anyone else spot that she's actually using a DualShock 2 (sans cord)?

The second picture is really sick. One would think that Sony would be more careful associating itself with fashist symbols. The brassards, the iron helmets, the statuen with it's aryan traits, this is pure Nazi symbolism. WTF were they thinking??
