Firefly being prepared for Blu-ray
We don't make a habit of posting about individual films or TV shows coming to Blu-ray. That's not the purpose of this site. Sometimes, however, something will come along that will get us totally excited and we simply have to share the news with you guys. Today that something is Firefly -- the excellent space western by Joss Whedon that was sadly canceled long before its time -- and the fact that it is being prepared for a Blu-ray box set.
Seeing the Firefly universe in HD is obviously going to be a treat. We'd love to see Serenity (the feature length "sequel" movie) to be released on Blu-ray, we didn't really expect Firefly to get similar treatment. There's no telling when the series will be released as currently it's still in the planning stages, but it's nice to know it is coming, wouldn't you say?

hell yes i would so buy this series again but in Blu-ray it was so sad when fox screwed this show up by not advertise it and showing it out of order damn you FOX for canceling all your good shows
dabamf @ Apr 8th 2008 5:25PM
FOX, thank you for partially redeeming yourself. Now, buy the rights to "Serenity" back from Universal and start working on "Serenity 2" for the love of Pete!
Vcize @ Apr 8th 2008 5:57PM
FOX has wronged me many times, but that alone would make up for it (and it's about the only thing that could).
Geoff Gibson @ Apr 8th 2008 6:45PM
Rumour has it that Universal is already prepping for a Serenity 2 in the form of a straight to DVD movie. Mainly because the box office sales for Serenity sucked but the DVD sales were phenomenal.
I'm glad Universal has the rights to this franchise, Fox would just screw it over again.
On Topic: I might double dip for the Blu-ray version of this series... depends on the extras. Such a fantastic series though.
poitch @ Apr 8th 2008 5:30PM
For the Firefly fans, Universal HD has started to air Firefly in HD (1080i) last Saturday. Will be on for the next few Saturdays.

Greg Edmonson composed the music for firefly and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Nate @ Apr 8th 2008 5:36PM
No way! That's cool.
Phizzy @ Apr 9th 2008 5:59AM
I'm surprised that not many people know that.
toefer @ Apr 9th 2008 4:30PM
Not to mention Nathan Drake looks a bit like Nathan Fillion. Weird.
Kabapu @ Apr 8th 2008 5:35PM
This is seriously awesome news. I just started watching this again on my DVD set and thought to myself, "It would be so awesome if they re-released this on Blu-ray."
While PS3FB may not have expected it, I have to some degree, and am glad to finally hear it's official. I will definitely be picking this up when it arrives.
They do need to make another movie though ... or continue the TV series ... or both.
Nate @ Apr 8th 2008 5:35PM
Best TV show ever. Period.
Vcize @ Apr 8th 2008 5:58PM
Indeed.
eugene @ Apr 8th 2008 5:54PM
SWEET.
Vcize @ Apr 8th 2008 5:56PM
Oh thank god.
And by god I mean Joss Whedon.
dabamf @ Apr 8th 2008 6:00PM
I wouldn't say Joss is perfect. Don't get me wrong, Firefly and Serenity are amazing. But just keep in mind two words: "Alien: Resurrection."
Lars @ Apr 8th 2008 6:05PM
Yeah, and I thought Buffy was one of the lamest shows on the planet.
HektikLyfe @ Apr 8th 2008 5:56PM
I only heard of its greatness through a variety of websites. I finally got the series myself and I am currently watching it with my family.
It really makes you hate the terrible writing and acting in "Sci-Fi" television shows like Stargate: Atlantis that never get canceled.
What the hell....?
Lars @ Apr 8th 2008 6:04PM
Hey, I liked Stargate SG1 a lot. Most of the actors are very good and charismatic. Storylines are very creative and became pretty epic towards the end. Set work was a-freakin-mazing for a TV show. But I have to agree with you about Atlantis though.
HektikLyfe @ Apr 8th 2008 7:16PM
Yeah that's why I knew to be specific. I haven't watched a lot of SG1 so I couldn't speak from experience. But when my wife and I are eating our morning breakfast, sometimes it threatens to come back up if we watch too much of Atlantis. The sets on Atlantis at times are inferior to those on the very first episodes of Star Trek. Yes, Captain Kirk's Star Trek. X ( Merlin? Seriously?
Lars @ Apr 8th 2008 6:01PM
YES!!!
evilfoxhound @ Apr 8th 2008 6:12PM
I just got the full series DVD set for £9 off play.com *Comic book guy voice* "Best bargain, ever"
Christian @ Apr 9th 2008 6:01AM
I picked mine up for $18, which is crazy cheap. So I won't feel nearly as taken when I double dip for this guy. Plus, the more Browncoats show their support through their wallets, the greater the chance for it to come back in one form or another (comic books, notwithstanding).
Joe H @ Apr 8th 2008 6:20PM
I don't have a PS3, but I saw this post at the bottom of Joystiq and wanted to point out.
Its already been aired in HD in entirety before on Universal HD, in addition to it apparently being rerun currently as well.
However, the official word at the time was that the masters for the effects shot were destroyed, so while most of it is in HD, there is some which was sourced from SD and simply upscaled.
Just to warn you that it won't look as good as Serenity did.

Why not quote the original source of the information rather than a site quoting the original source?

...nice reference! ha...to the nard who brought up Alien: Resurrection - his script was completely flipped by the studio...not his fault. Same thing happened to the Buffy movie.
