Bad Company 'boycott' wins, EA makes weapons free
It looks like the Bad Company "boycott" became loud enough -- EA has just announced that the controversial extra weapons for DICE's upcoming FPS game will now be free. Well, there's a few catches.Purchasers of the Gold Edition will get access to the weapons almost-instantly (the Gold Edition includes behind-the-scenes bonuses and will retail for $10 more than the standard edition). However, cheapstakes that opt for the standard version will have to earn the weapons by leveling up to the top rank in the online multiplayer. You won't have to pay for it, but you will have to be rather dedicated to get it.
This seems like a rather fair trade -- certainly more so than EA's previous offer. While many may simply avoid Bad Company altogether, it's good to see that EA is listening to the fervent demands of gamers everywhere.
[Thanks, SharpShooter!]

No way, that's awesome. They actually listened to their customers. I think this is the first time I've ever seen an online petition work.

Guys might want to cross check your stories. Specifically, how this story on Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/battlefield-bad-companys-dlc-guns-are-free-but-require-marke/1#comments
says that you'll still have to participate in a "Marketing Program" to get the weapons. They've replaced paying for weapons, with selling your private information for weapons. Don't put up with this crap

Almost all the good GH3 DLC songs are free, so how exactly is free overpriced?

Whoops, that was supposed to go below. I suck at comments.

Dude, thank Sarcasticgamer.com. It was there persistence that made this happen. Heck even the Joystiq editor laughed at them thinking it would never work.

kevin @ Apr 9th 2008 9:34PM
lol that be nice ive bought every song so far so that would save me cash! lol

Boycott it for what? It's pretty decently priced. They release some every week. A fairly good collection of songs from (for the most part) a variety of bands. I'm very pleased with Rock Band's DLC myself. Certainly a million times better than Guitar Zero III's overpriced, rarely available DLC.
adolson @ Apr 9th 2008 10:55PM
Whoosh.
Do you know what that sound was?
Heh, probably not.

I stand corrected. I guess internet boycotts can work lol

another point for EA, now they only have 993 points to go before they "get right" in my book....wait....correction 992
theboy @ Apr 9th 2008 10:18PM
wonderful. yay now we get to dedicate our lives to getting top rank in battlefield so we can get these weapons rather than pay a few bucks. THATS GREAT! GO BOYCOTT!
Well I guess I don't lose much as I was getting gold version anyway.
Da @ Apr 9th 2008 10:42PM
Your an idiot. Bet you can't wait for the COD4 pack that costs $10 more but gives you all weapons and perks on level 1.
theboy @ Apr 10th 2008 2:01AM
The correct thing to say would be "you're an idiot." Anyways, I won't go to the same whiney lengths to insult you and your assumptions about me.
No, I don't plan on buying those packs on CoD4. I was going to get the gold version in the first place because I'm a huge battlefield fan and wanted to enjoy the extras for a few bucks. Anyways, the time that has to be spent now for people who buy the standard version going to amount to much more than whatever they would've been paying otherwise. Well, that might just be me because my time is worth something.
Brutlaa @ Apr 9th 2008 11:00PM
cheapstakes? lol

We should boycott the EU/UK price of Rock Band...it's simply extortionate.
