Home client downloadable via proxy exploit but servers are locked

It would appear that some members of the PS3news.com forums have discovered an updated Home via some proxy server shennanigans. The client is downloadable and can be installed, but doesn't connect to servers for various reasons. The interesting thing is that in the XMB the Home client's version number is listed as 1.00 -- the magic number we always assumed would be a release build.
We're not about to suggest that Home's open beta is imminent, but we can't help but feel that the evidence is piling up. Between this v1.00 client, the Warhawk patch allowing for Home game launching and the fact that SCEE promised us a "special update" when the PSN store redesign goes live, we're certainly intrigued. Either way, we'll find out in a week. If you want to download the client yourself (don't forget, it won't do anything except sit on your XMB looking pretty) then check out this forum thread for instructions.

Hmm interesting. Hard to get excited though.
NipGrip @ Apr 9th 2008 10:20AM
Man I hope Home comes with that new update, but I won't get my hopes up. I think Home is going to be more popular than people realize..
sean @ Apr 9th 2008 10:20AM
i doubt its comin out soon. they will probably give us atleast a two week notice. why just a surprise release?
Jerses @ Apr 9th 2008 10:59AM
Totally agree. If Home is coming they`re going to make like a big lauch party. The "Special update" is probably IN-GAME XMB... And wow...192mb for HOME? i was expecting like 2gb or this 192mb is just an installer?
Popfrogs @ Apr 9th 2008 11:25AM
Judging by the "Loading" screens the Home testers complain about when moving between "zones", I'm betting this is just a little installer, all the assets are streamed.
PSU_Boss @ Apr 9th 2008 12:24PM
It's the main part, including your home space. Then when you go to the different areas for the first time, it asks you if you want to download them. So, for instance, if you're never gonna use the game space, it won't take up space on your hard-drive.

I can say for being in the Beta that 1.00 is not out yet. Just the other day 8.6 came out. Plus Ted the Dog would have said some thing. Plus just so you know Ted the Dog is the main guy working on Home.
sw @ Apr 9th 2008 10:43AM
The main guy working on Home is a dog? That explains a lot.
Liquid Ocelot (call me Liquid) @ Apr 9th 2008 11:07AM
I see what you did there. O YOU'RE SO F*KING CLEVER!!!!
Da @ Apr 9th 2008 9:45PM
eh.. what? Idiot. Ocelot.
stargateheaven @ Apr 9th 2008 10:38AM
I'm excited for the store revamp. But if home comes too, then wow. lol.
koehler83 @ Apr 9th 2008 10:41AM
The 'special update' will include Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the North American store and the usual fist in the craw for the European Store.
Fireball @ Apr 9th 2008 11:12AM
yea, just to make it extra special and to mix things up, they'll actually remove stuff from the EU store......
I agree, i doubt it'll be too special, although PJ:M add on would be nice
deusmecha @ Apr 9th 2008 11:13AM
I highly advise not doing this.
The fellas at Sony have the power to ban your IP from accessing PSN and even deny your PS3 specifically from doing the same, meaning you'd have to buy another PS3 to access PSN
Just a forewarning.
LJ @ Apr 9th 2008 11:14AM
IMO: Who cares!?... lets just wait for the damn thing to be released.
phillip @ Apr 9th 2008 11:19AM
dont worry guys, the .8.6 is closer to 1. than when i started on it, i would say close to 3 to 4 months, should go live :)
Gus @ Apr 9th 2008 11:29AM
Did anyone else notice the date on the screen? 6/4/2008
sean @ Apr 9th 2008 11:33AM
i think europeans but the date b4 the month. but i could and probably am wrong.
Jem @ Apr 9th 2008 11:40AM
Sean's right. European dates are written in a day/month/year format. Otherwise known as the "correct" way. ;)
Dahk @ Apr 9th 2008 2:26PM
Lol that's the Canadian way too apparently.
But, save for cheques and other official documents, everyone still uses month/day/year =P. It's just a little more fluent. Like... June 4, 2008!
rockon338 @ Apr 10th 2008 1:52PM
well maybe in america thats the 'offical' way btw 4th june 2008 sounds sooo much better! u need to get out of america.....
Haiddasalami @ Apr 9th 2008 11:27AM
Sent this in like day before yesterday. Also Sony saw what was happening and gave out an update which left all 1.00 versions to 1.8.
JimmyD @ Apr 9th 2008 11:34AM
Sony did say that would not be a big launch for home just a low key one which could suggest something next week.
sean @ Apr 9th 2008 11:34AM
oops meant put not but
Ricky2480 @ Apr 9th 2008 11:41AM
its from the future, sony has made the ps3 into a time machine as well as releasing home. the guy took a pic of his screen and came back 2 months to show us. On june 4 something is happening
Jerses @ Apr 9th 2008 2:02PM
I think in europe same as Mexico ( were im from ) date is like Day/month/year maybe this pic is from 5 days ago.
toefer @ Apr 9th 2008 4:23PM
April 6th was 5 days ago? Are you from the future too?
Nicky @ Apr 9th 2008 4:27PM
The date in spanish is day/month/year like here in Puerto Rico and other countries who speak Spanish like Mexico, etc.
6 de abril de 2008 = April 6, 2008
6/4/2008 4/6/2008
FatalChaos @ Apr 9th 2008 12:56PM
The promised special update could be the MGS4 beta download that should be available the same day as the revamped store.
anthonyjh @ Apr 9th 2008 3:47PM
Wow, no.
Game_playa @ Apr 9th 2008 5:54PM
Everyone already *ucking KNOWS that!!!
TheEnd187 @ Apr 10th 2008 9:17PM
this has been everywhere else for days already old news, also no point in posting since the method only allows you to download and not actually get on the server.
toefer @ Apr 9th 2008 4:25PM
I hope that when Home comes out they bump up the friends limit per name. For some, 50 friends still isn't enough right now, but add in Home where the whole point is socializing and meeting people, I think 50 will be filling up fast for a lot of people.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Apr 10th 2008 3:37AM
Oh, oh SORRY mr. popular!
playcrackthesky @ Apr 9th 2008 8:08PM
Home will be here in July. Source: PSN leaked document =D
SnipersParadise @ Apr 9th 2008 11:54PM
The thing is they already said what they were releasing, without mentioning what the special update is, and nobody knows what it is, could be anything. supposedly with the current firmware works with this home, but by June or later they may be releasing the full version. no mention as to the open beta release, would make sense if it was soon. One of Sony's people mentioned it would come before expected, so maybe that what it is.
tony @ Apr 11th 2008 7:11PM
im fed up with the wait so im selling my ps3 and never geting anything sony again just a waste of space
Ryan @ Apr 14th 2008 2:19AM
wow what a good reason to sell your system
Korentsu @ Jun 15th 2008 12:47AM
