There's a big game coming out this month. In case you haven't heard, it's called
Grand Theft Auto IV. It's coming out on both Xbox 360 and PS3, and we're curious to see which console Joystiq network readers will choose. The poll will run on Joystiq, PS3 Fanboy and Xbox 360 Fanboy, but you can only vote
once. Will PS3's free PSN multiplayer, or Xbox 360's exclusive DLC offerings, sway your purchase? Let us know. Voting will end this Sunday, at noon.

im leaning more towards the 360, but only becuase ive got more people on my friends list on XBL that will be getting this game. but id really like an excuse to get it for the ps3, ive been favoring the ps3 more than my 360 as of late.
Bad Mojo @ Apr 10th 2008 12:22PM
Too funny... most of my crew has switched to the PS3. So it'll definitely be that platform.
Either way... bound to be a lot of fun and some great stories to be told at the watercooler the next day :)
heckteck @ Apr 10th 2008 12:29PM
hahahaha my 360 have been getting the cold shoulder for like 3 months now lol heck it's not even hooked up and i don't want to.......so anyways yeah i'll get the ps3 version
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 12:40PM
360 for me:
mostly due to achievement factor. i like replaying games for more reasons than just for the sake of it. also yeah, all my friends are LIVE so we can just headset chat while we play.
i don't really care much for DLC, but i guess that's cool too. I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 got it down the line (exclusive doesn't mean much these days apparently).
really just play with the controller you like the most. i happen to like gun like triggers, natural thumbstick placement and convex thumbsticks for comfortable grip and thumb support.
Eric Rice @ Apr 12th 2008 4:20PM
I have both consoles, and have no fanboy religion about either (I prefer the 360 yet the PS3 is slowwwly growing on me) however, I've got more friends on XBL.
NipGrip @ Apr 10th 2008 12:37PM
Most of the friends I know are giving up on the 360 after so many failures and the fact that most hits (like this one) are coming to the PS3. We've all agreed to get it for the PS3 despite whatever DLC we'll be missing. Having reliability and free online definitely helps.
msusig @ Apr 10th 2008 12:41PM
Achievement and DLC
RidgeRich79 @ Apr 10th 2008 12:42PM
Right now, I'm leaning toward the PS3 ver. I really don't care about the multiplayer b/c I haven't been playing my 360 lately. The only mulitplayer game I play daily is CoD4 for the PS3. Though I just check Amazon and its about the a 51 v. 49 in favor of the 360 ver. So it really doesn't matter, this game is giong to sell but I hope a little the PS3 ver sells better. I also hope R* doesn't screw up the PS3 ver. like many other 3rd party publishers have done in the past. What am I saying, this is R*, who actually care about the games they make unlike other publishers *cough*EA/Valve*cough*

btw, anyone else annoyed with the reply system on these fan sites where one guy gets his inbox full of people's replies just so that they can "fake" replying to each other?
Zack @ Apr 10th 2008 12:46PM
I'm definitely getting it for the PS3. Why, you ask, since there will be additional episodes? Well, for one thing, with the addition of FREE multiplayer, I'll get well over 100 hours of gameplay out of GTA IV alone. There have also already been plenty of talk about how the PS3 version looks and plays better than the 360 version, since the 360 limited how much Rockstar could do with the game (this came from them, not me -- I own a 360, so don't label me some fanboy). And finally, there's no such thing as exclusive anymore. The PS3 is almost certain to get the episodes sooner or later. Either that, or it will show up on the PC, or we'll be getting the better content with GTA V. :)
Santino @ Apr 10th 2008 12:51PM
not to sound like an ass, but i havent read anywhere saying which system gta runs better on...do you have any links?

ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 1:01PM
I read your link and besides the difference in reading from the HD and disc also the funny bit about the whores, I found no proof that the 360 version is inferior.
please provide another link. i'm sure i've read it before, but i can't find it.
anthonyjh @ Apr 10th 2008 1:11PM
That was a joke numb nuts.
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 1:25PM
Was that to me? i can't tell with this crappy reply system. :p
anyways, i laughed so it was a joke?
this link sorta looks bad for someone claiming that Rockstar favored development of one console over the other maybe?
I distinctly remember them saying that both gave them difficulty for different reasons. So I call BS.
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 1:21PM
@ anthonyjh
was that to me? i can't tell with this reply system. :p
it was a joke page and i said it was funny, right?
kinda looks bad for someone claiming Rockstar favored development of one console over the other.
I do remember Rockstar saying that both had their problems. So yeah, i'm calling BS on Zack.
ps. Sorry if we are filling your Inbox there Zack. Reply system and all, i'm sure you understand.
McMupp @ Apr 10th 2008 1:38PM
The real problems were infact memory handling at the PS3 and disc capabilitu at the 360.
PS3 for me! :)
Zack @ Apr 10th 2008 1:48PM
Well, it also mentions that the Ps3 could produce whiter whites, which also means it can create blacker blacks since the range is that wide. I know that it isn't significant, but considering this is a multiplatform title, and that most, if not all multiplatform games look practically identical to one another. Not to mention, the PS3 version also has 1080p and HDMI 1.3. The Ps3 version is still getting DLC, just not the episodes, which honestly doesn't really matter to me, because I'm sure when Home comes around, there will be a big marketing campaign on there. The best part is, I won't be the one spending $50-$60 a year to play this game online. :P

ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 2:09PM
i would like LIVE to be free too, but I don't run the world and would gladly pay for a much better online experience with friends I know in real life. So, no, the $38 (bargain shopper here :p) a year does not bother me one bit.
Zack @ Apr 10th 2008 2:13PM
But coming from a PS3 gamer, I can save that $38 and buy MGS IV, LittleBigPlanet, KillZone 2, or a number of different games in the near future, while still enjoying GTA IV Online. :)
I think that perk far overshadows the whole "episode" deal GTA IV has going on. People don't even know if they'll like the story enough to continue on with it...
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 3:17PM
....
that isn't much of a perk. $38 is just couch change saved up and amounts to practically 3-4 bucks a month and just a few cents a day. i'd rather a more intuitive online experience and a more ergonomic controller (IMO).
Riley Freeman @ Apr 10th 2008 12:51PM
i was hoping the ps3 ver would win in votes but the fact there are more xbox users doesnt surprise me. anyway go ps3. i think the ps3 will catch up especially with the fatc its free to play online.
go ps3
ultima_omega @ Apr 10th 2008 12:57PM
I really don't know what console to get it for. I hear GTA4 will have Home support but then we have no idea when Home is coming so i may have to go with the 360.
Jason @ Apr 10th 2008 1:03PM
Forgot to add the vote button for "Neither system. Not buying it.". I'm probably that 0.00001 percent that won't get it. Nothing against the game, just the series never did it for me. I'll give it a rent like the previous installments.
Nitsu @ Apr 10th 2008 1:23PM
Add me to the small percentage, I won't be getting this either.
RalphJones @ Apr 10th 2008 1:16PM
The reliability of 360 will be pushed to the limits with this game. I believe we're going to be hearing lots of people having to service their consoles because of it.
That being said if I did buy it, I'd get the PS3 version. I can live without achievements and RROD.
davidtieman @ Apr 10th 2008 1:17PM
Until Sony can get there online experience up with Microsoft, I'll stay with my 360. I only know one friend with a ps3 and he also has a 360 for games.
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 3:22PM
then you'll be missing some truly great games coming out for the PS3.
Tru-blu @ Apr 10th 2008 1:40PM
I'm getting the PS3 version. Mostly because I don't have an Xbox 360.
Sauvage @ Apr 10th 2008 2:33PM

Sauvage @ Apr 10th 2008 3:43PM
It speaks volumes really. Which prostitute would you rather sleep with? The Xbox 360 one on the left or the PS3 one on the right?
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 7:35PM
NONE. they are both fake.
move along these aren't the hoes you be lookin fo a'ight?
Johnny @ Apr 10th 2008 3:51PM
The sad thing about all these PS3 vs. XBOX360 wars is that if PS3 cost money to pay online, the PS3 people would say the exact same thing.
ihatebioshock @ Apr 10th 2008 5:27PM
PS3 for me.
1. My 360 is dead so that would be pointless
2. Fed up of paying for online even when I only want to try it out
3. Can't even text friends without paying (PS3 = completely free)
4. RELIABILTY
5. Better controller (using a DualShock3 now on PS3 love it!)
6. System is just nicer to play on, quiet, sexy, no fuss.
Even if my 360 WAS still working i'd still buy for PS3.
Things I miss on PS3:
Achievements - I like these, hopefully HOME can pull of some decent rewards/trophies/unlocks in home to surpass mere 'gamerscore' and 2d Icons.
That's it. Don't care for the DLC (honestly, this is a massive game and after 100 hours nevermind all the mucking around i'll do I just won't care for DLC especially as I'll have been playing ONLINE for free all that time).
Burnout DEMO really brought it home to me, this was the last thing I played on my 360 before it died. I couldn't play it online to try it out - on the PS3 it got me HOOKED online in the demo and now I want to buy it purely for ONLINE gameplay, but should I not want to play for a while then I shouldn't have to keep paying GOLD sub fees, it's a complete rip off. Any multiformat game from now on that doesn't look 'worse' on PS3 should be bought on PS3 if you have one imo, if for nothing else at least it's got some reliability so you can be safe knowing your game purchases will last and not have to be sold off on amazon (I did this with all my 360 games after my box died - and before anyone pipes up - it was E74 which is not fixed for free by MS but I wasn't going to pay them ANOTHER £80 for THEIR fault to be repaired!)
Vcize @ Apr 10th 2008 5:59PM
Erm, in regards to #3 in your list up there, the only thing you need a gold membership for in terms of messaging is to send messages from the xbox.com website, which is not an option on PSN at all so you're not gaining anything there. Sending messages when signed into your 360 still works 100% the same when you're just a silver member.
FWIW, they used to let silver members send messages from websites but had to remove it because people were abusing it (someone pisses you off, so just create a bunch of silver accounts on your computer and spam that person with picture messages of goatse, etc).
redbrick @ Apr 10th 2008 5:32PM
I'm waiting for the PC version... possibility for community mods make this a better choice for me. I'll stick to basic exclusive games for my kickazz PS3
Dirty @ Apr 10th 2008 5:42PM
Im going 360.. I can afford the $4 a month for the ability to talk to people online, (have you tried UT3) and Jump in and out of games with people on the fly.. Thats just me tho. I know not everyone can spare the 14 cents a day....
Popfrogs @ Apr 10th 2008 6:27PM
For me it's the principle of the thing. Why should I pay for a service that should be free? It's not like Microsoft is hosting game servers (peer to peer multi? please). The chunk of the service they DO pay for is designed to sell you stuff.
If you're trying to sell me stuff, your service should be free. If you ship a game with multiplayer, I expect part of that $60 to pay for your hosted servers. Why not? The PC has done this for a decade already.
Dehshizknight @ Apr 10th 2008 6:30PM
I'll be getting it for the PS3 simply because of its controller. I'm just too used to GTA in that controller. Trying out San Andreas on an Xbox was...not fun for me.
ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 7:37PM
that's only because the XBOX used the black and white buttons.
360 has no problem with it's left and right top bumpers. control is a non-issue.
Dirty @ Apr 10th 2008 7:04PM
@ Popfrogs
Why should the service be free? everyone says that but im not sure I under stand?
You can tell me till your blue in the face that the PS3 has it for free, but come on. I have bought every multiplatform title for the Xbox over the PS3. It’s just not as good. So everyone that says it should be free is saying when I bought my car I should have gotten the leather and navigation for free? You pay for something extra, that’s the way it works.
When the PS3 can match the online capabilities of live. I would have loved to buy some of the games I bought on 360 on the PS3 instead, But when I go out and Buy UT3 and I cant even talk junk to anyone as I’m blowing them up, that just sucks…
spawnga @ Apr 10th 2008 8:25PM
With all this fanboyism (we're at ps3fanboy.com after all) the results are becoming clear. The xbox 360 version is going to be the preffered version. PERIOD.
Ryan @ Apr 10th 2008 10:40PM
Once I learned Sony lost the timed exclusivity like with San Andreas a long while back, I was all for the 360 version. The DLC has a chance to be something unprecedented, and the online can't be beat. It better be worth it for those eight cents a day I fork over for LIVE. I may even need to take on a second job!
ciross @ Apr 10th 2008 11:14PM
Im an aussie, so its a PS3 import for me.
jpneiswi @ Apr 11th 2008 1:16PM
I think a better pole would be one where they ask those who own both the ps3 and xbox360 which one they're going to get...the mere fact that there are more xbox360 owners right now will almost inevitably mean that it sells more...as for me, I only have a ps3, so I'm getting that one. The extra DLC won't add too much to the already over 100 hours I'll have with single player and many more hours with multiplayer (all 15 modes!)...and the only review I've read that's said anything about a difference between the two said the ps3 version seemed a little dimmer, while the 360 had anti-aliasing issues...plus once HOME comes out (hopefully soon), it should be able to compete with the already good Xbox live (you do pay for it, but right now, its much better than the ps3 online experience)
gregory mitchell @ Apr 13th 2008 6:16PM
ZACK
Well if your broke ass cant afford 50 in a YEAR!!!! maybe you shouldnt be playing games
and i find it funny that people that bitch about 50 a year are the same one who will pay 15 a month for certain pc games....and thats only 1 game!!!
this is the real world and in the real world you get what you pay for.
so far free has only gotten week after week of rock band and guitar hero content.
even 360 came out there were a steady flow of arcade games it wasnt always weekly as promised but at least they're were always demos and trailers being added. there;s almost no point to check the store and more because games like warhawk is still in the recent section.
daniel @ Apr 14th 2008 1:38PM
True you do get what you pay for.... thats why the PS3 is more expensive :p.
And will you xbox 360 fanboys go back to your appropiate website/joystiq.
And also have you even seen any of the titles on PSN, such as titles like flow and pixeljunk and Littlebigplanet which is comin out soon.
And Warhawk isn't in the recent section on the PSN store, it is there because so many people want to buy it.
