Over 2 million PS3s sold in Japan
The PS3 has sold over 2 million units in Japan, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting. Media Create's numbers show the PS3 having sold 1,999,969, just 31 short of 2 million, as of April 6th. During the week since then the target has been reached, showing strong sales for the PS3 in Japan. It may not be close to beating out the scarily popular Wii, but the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 in the region by a ratio of almost 4:1. With huge titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Final Fantasy XIII series still to come, we expect Japanese sales to only increase further in the future.

What about in the US? And in Europe? And Else where?
WHY ALWAYS JAPAN!!!!
Thats the thing, sony need to stop letting them Asian people get it first....Should let us ALL GET IT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!
DAMMIT!!! MORE MONEY FOR YOU GUYS!! SO WHY NOT??

Whoa man, settle down. We hear about Japanese sales more often because Japanese sales figures are released weekly.
Also, I to not believe your conclusion (more money) follows from your premises (simultaneous release). It is difficult to accomplish a simultaneous worldwide release - as enticing as that may be. The games must be translated and localized to specific regions so that they make sense. To do this would either add great costs to the developer or lengthen development time for the game. If the game is done in Japan, why not release it in Japan?
Would you follow the same logic for games developed primarily in the US? Games like Uncharted, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword were all released here before they were in Japan (with even longer delays for 360 games) - should we have had to wait until they could localized, pressed, and shipped around the world?
I am excited that games like MGS4 and future Square-Enix games are being target for simultaneous world wide release - this is a noble goal to have during development. However, I don't think it's quite as simple as Sony deciding to "not let them Asian people get it first"

joj,o it just seams like ur complaining about nothing, this is just saying how well the system has sold over there, nothing about releases.

"Then Asian People" made the PS3, so why shouldn't they get it first?
disrupt3r @ Apr 11th 2008 10:51AM

Pretty pafetic it took a company like Sony to get the PS3 to 2mil in japan, wouldnt be surprised if it did GC numbers over there.
Justin @ Apr 11th 2008 12:55PM
Ok...so many problems with this comment.
"it took a company like Sony to get the PS3" You mean as opposed to all the other companies that make a PS3? WTF?
"2mil in japan, wouldnt be surprised if it did GC numbers over there" Selling 2 million in its first year in a country of around 127 million people means that 1 in every 63 people has one. If we take the numbers similar numbers for NA (4.53 million sold) and figure in a population of roughly 300 million, that means 1 in every 66 people has one. So basically, Japan is buying more PS3s per capita than the US.
In other words, your comment is retarded at best, especially considering the PS3 costs more than twice as much as the Gamecube.

stargateheaven @ Apr 11th 2008 1:50PM
what is more "pafetic" is, the richest company in the world, microsoft, haven't even sold 1 mil in japan with the 360.
By the way.. didn't the GC sell pretty well in Japan?
ryan @ Apr 11th 2008 1:01PM
um, yay?
unexpected?
Nate @ Apr 11th 2008 5:04PM
kinda what I was thinking... is anyone suprised? should they be? Does it mean anything? whatever
EvilWalksWithMe @ Apr 12th 2008 9:09PM
The Playstation 3 outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan doesn't even feel like news anymore. We all how how the Japanesse feel about American products, so they will never embrace the 360 over there. The real news would be the PS3 one day outselling the Wii in Japan!

The emphasis PS3fanboy puts on Japanese sales makes it seem like it's the only region where the PS3 can compete. I'm not saying this is true, but all I ever see about sales is that they're high in Japan. Makes me think no one buys it anywhere else.
I also don't think sales for the ps3 will pick up until more exclusives are released. There are a few good exclusives out already, but pretty much the only use I have for my PS3 is that it's a bluray player. In my mind, that doesn't make a good video game console.

The reason they always talk about the japanese sales is because that is the only country where the ps3 is worth a ****. Talking about the sales elseswhere would be too depressing for you fanboys. they might loose customers to suicide.
