SCEE has confirmed that the
PSN Store redesign will be
going live on April 15th. It has also been revealed that the European Store won't get updated until Thursday the 17th, but it should be worth the wait. A list of upcoming content was included in the press release, including the European
Metal Gear Online beta. From the looks of things, it'll be an open beta for anyone who wants to take part, unlike in the US or Japan where beta keys were handed out with
Metal Gear Solid 4 preorders. Here's what we can expect to see next Thursday:
- Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta
- Warhawk: Operation Broken Mirror expansion
- Lair "Diabolical Dragons" pack
- Lair "Skyguard Upgrade" pack
- "A collection of trailers including the latest for GTA IV"
- Sega Superstar Tennis demo
Looks like that "special update" we were promised was pointing towards the
MGO beta. Nice to see Europe not getting shafted in the end -- in fact, they get the best deal. A seemingly open beta. We're not sure whether the content listed above is exhaustive, but assume for now that it is. We'll let you know if we find out otherwise.
[Update] Konami has confirmed that the beta will be completely open and will last between April 21st and May 6th. After May 6th the beta client will be removed from the PSN Store.

That's great news about the MGSO beta but if those are the only updates from the last 3 weeks, it would be quite disappointing, considering the only other decent thing is the warhawk expansion pack.
Let's hope there's more than that.

I know what ya mean m8, i spent ages getting my konami ID (even tho i knew it prob wouldnt work coz im out side of japan). Still this has just made my day! also, thinking about it, who wants to take bets that the european servers crash for the weekend when every ps3 owner in europe logs onto the beta? I'm very happy it's open to all but it's definitely going to end up 'sluggier' than the US & Japanese privileged servers.

well, I suppose that if they are going to make such decision to give open beta to Europe they are fully prepared for it...
It's like a restaurant willing to let anyone use their restroom regardless of ordering or not, if you aren't capable of handling everyone, why do so (hey, the analogy DOES apply!)

The pre-order deal is only for North America. The open beta is only for Europe.

Don't whine. Number one, those who preordered and got the code are in other territories. Number two, preorderers get to start the beta early. Number three, if you live in Europe you don't get a code anyway.
I just preordered yesterday, watched the DVD (hilarious seeing PS1 and PS2 cinematics on a DVD) and now I'm hyped. Not much longer for MGO.

This is great news for Europeans. Finally they get something exclusive (sorta). Unfortunately for me, I live in the US, and when I reserved my copy of the LE MGS4, they told me "sorry" and that they didn't have any MGO keys/discs left. Anyone know what I do to get a code? Will they be shipping more discs and keys before the beta opens?

so could i download this from my European account (i live in the US) and still play it online or will it not let me into the European servers? cause the PS3 isnt supposed to be region locked anyway.
i didnt like the MGS series before but i did want to test the new one out and who knows, maybe ill like MGO better than MGS.

this isnt a full list because what about gran turismo that comes out on the 15th or so also. what really doesnt make sense is there arent more playstation one titles, or playstation 2 titles also should be coming onto the psn store. sony could make a fortune selling more games. i am sure they will eventually but its taking too long

um i dunno I kinda what wanted GAMES!! im not interested in betas i want games! Ill play when MGS when i comes out, but where are the damn games....im really not for all the hype of stuff to come..i want new stuff right now.
