Gran Turismo 5 Prologue continues to dominate European charts
Even with a million pre-orders sold, Gran Tursimo 5 Prologue continues to light up the European sales charts. In both Spain and Germany, the PS3 exclusive rests as the top selling game, beating out strong competition from a variety of Wii, DS and PSP titles. In Sweden, GT5P was only beat out by the PS2 version of Guitar Hero III.It goes to show how different each territory is when it comes to gaming preferences. The US version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue comes out this week on Blu-ray and on the PSN. Will it match the insatiable European demand for Polyphony's racer? We'll have to wait and see.

I really hope GT5P rips up the American charts, but I'm a little concerned it won't. There hasn't been much advertising for it, and I think Americans are a little less hyped about racing games.
I'd really love to see the PS3 kicking butt in the US. The machines may be outselling the 360 month to month, but MS is sticking with the "short supply" answer. I'd like to see a PS3 game on the top of the charts over here for once.

Initially I was very psyched about this game. However, after going to Metacritic and noticing that this game is getting very mixed reviews, I am hesitant to pay $40. I am up in the air on this one.
Watcher @ Apr 14th 2008 2:26PM
You would rather listen to one or two biased U.S. Websites instead of the millions who purchased the game overseas and totally ignore the fact that it's been the number 1 game throughout Europe for weeks? The game has also been a smash hit in Japan as well. Millions of people wouldn't purchase and keep a sucky game!
Here's a tip: Getting someone else's opinion on what a game is like isn't equivalent playing the game yourself and forming your own opinion. Rent it, play it at a friend's house, etc, but don't judge a game by someone else's standards.

@ watcher:
Then can you please explain "50 Cent: Bulletproof" to me?
1.75 million copies blows your theory to $hit.

That's the exception, not the rule.

hey frank! eating fried insects is yummy and healthy for you! Me and my metacritic friends gave this restaurant down our street a 98/100! It cost us $10 to feed four people! You should definitely try it! Afterall, we gave the insect place a 98, compared to the local steak house that got really good zagat reviews but our metacritic score says that place really is a 70/100.

For my American brothers who are on the fence about this title. Its waaaay more than a mere demo and has more content than a lot of full price release games on the shelf. You honestly won't regret buying it, and seeing as your progress in the title will be implemented in the final game, its all good.
For those with a full 7.1 home cinema system, prepare yourself for one of the most sonically brilliant experiences ever. =D

I'm not familiar with outside the U.S, but so the PS3 is much more popular in Europe and Asia than the U.S huh?
myself @ Apr 14th 2008 2:34PM
goodmorning!!
actually the 360 is dead in japan
in europe after a pricedrop is below the ps3 so after the next ps3 [price cut is gonna be dead there also...
in usa the last two months according to official Npd data ps3 overtakes 360 and is expected this month also...
so i guess by next year the 360 is prety much dead.
with gta4->mgs4->price drop->godofwar3->gturismo5->finalfantasy is done deal...
(im stating the games that have major impact good games are shared by both, the only big 360 game is gears2 and maybe halo4)
imo

Yes, Europeans love to drive virtual cars on the wrong side of the road. No, I will not buy a demo/online stress test for $40 USD. Yes, outside of the US/Canada PS3 out sells Xboxen.
enigma137 @ Apr 14th 2008 2:52PM
Yeah. I wouldnt buy it if I were you.
Left hand AND right hand corners may get a bit confusing for you Yanks. Plus the added complication of having to change gear.
Maybe you should just stick to shooting virtual people instead ;)
Jason @ Apr 14th 2008 3:14PM
Bravo Enigma!
I've almost quit playing video games altogether b/c 90% of them here in the US are the same tired old FPS repackaged with slicker graphics. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for GT5P.
gooftroop @ Apr 14th 2008 3:49PM
@Jay -
Your lack of knowledge is quite evident, most of Europe drives on the same side of the road as the USA (presuming that is where you are from).
The "I'm not paying for a demo" argument is a bit old and inappropriate as this game far from a demo. A demo is what was available on the Japanese PSN cleverly named the GT5 Prologue DEMO, had 1 tack, 6 cars and that was it.
Compare that to the 70+ cars, 6 tracks, 40+ event races, arcade, drift, split screen multi player and on line modes it is defiantly not a demo.
kcmanuel @ Apr 14th 2008 2:42PM
Does anyone know if wal-mart puts these games out after midnight tonight/early tuesday morning? I'm willing to go out to wal-mart at 2 AM just to pick this up. I work evenings at the Hospital, so I'm still on my nocturnal sleep schedule. Local Gamestop tells me it ships on Tuesday to them, and they won't have it on shelves till wednesday. Anyone know?
Khaeos @ Apr 14th 2008 3:19PM
well..for any of you hesitant US folk mayb this will help you jump fence..i have GT5:P (live in europe) and i have to say, it looks stunning...the game is 1080p (which is quite an accomplishment coz it looks STUNNING and still manages 1080p which is an accoplishment because most other games on ps3 atm are all at 720p)..it may look a bit boring but DONT TRUST THE BOX...when i bought it the box said it was 1 player...i came home..updated it to GT5: P spec II and was pleasantly surprised to see that they added a splitscreen MP in addition to online. Also, Damage will be added via updates in the summer and it is well worth noting that GT5 is STILL A YEAR AWAY!!. also, if anyone tells u this game is just a demo, do them a favor and kick them in the balls...its MUCH MORE then a demo..70+ cars, 6 tracks (each with a variation), online play..GT TV..its much more then just a demo. Its a fun game to play, and is a stunning demo of what visuals and GFX the ps3 is capable of displaying.
Vcize @ Apr 14th 2008 3:21PM
I'm aching for this game. Just one more day...
I'm really hoping that there will be some miracle and the US release will come alongside a patch with the online fixes. GT in HD online with friends is something I've been waiting for my whole life. Hopefully they get that patch out soon.
Dehshizknight @ Apr 14th 2008 4:26PM
I am definitely going to be picking up GT5: Prologue in the near future. My birthday is on the 21st so I will be treating myself to this little treasure.
To bad I got AP exams... But I'll still get it and play it after school ends.
Khaeos @ Apr 14th 2008 4:41PM
apparently AP exams are a joke...my friend from Vancouver got baked all the time and even the day before his chem exam...still got the grades to go to imperial coll london..
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 14th 2008 5:57PM
100% Worth buying, I haven't put it down since, you'd have to pay me.
DrunkRaba @ Apr 14th 2008 6:14PM
can't wait for this game. It will do good in the US, but I doubt as well as in Europe.
ACEDOH @ Apr 14th 2008 10:25PM
I preordered this one a couple weeks ago. I am a Gran Turismo die hard. This game will definately fill the need that is until atleast GTA makes my day.
