Metal Gear Solid 4 gets Bluetooth headset
Looks like a Metal Gear Solid 4-branded Bluetooth headset is about to come out, just in time for the release of the game. For a MSRP of $60, this gray over-the-ear headset will allow you to trashtalk opponents in Metal Gear Online. The device has 8 hours of talktime, a 30 foot range, and comes with a carrying case. Obviously, it'll work for all PS3 games, not just MGS4.

omg *buy*
Ty @ Apr 14th 2008 2:58PM
Codec chats! WIN!
FOXHOUND @ Apr 14th 2008 8:04PM
*want!*
So... where can it be bought? x_o?
FOXHOUND @ Apr 14th 2008 8:15PM
If only I could have it purchased and in possession by 6/12...
Rick @ Apr 14th 2008 1:02PM
Straight from snake's item inventory? I thought he had a codec implant.
How come they won't try to sell me one of those?
Van @ Apr 14th 2008 1:19PM
Implant FTW! haha, reminds me of Metal Gear Awesome when he rips it out of ear when he's annoyed with it
Tru-blu @ Apr 14th 2008 1:03PM
I agree. I must and will have this! Much better than the earpiece that came with Warhawk.
never$$hort @ Apr 14th 2008 2:41PM
This one should be better because it's $60. The one that came included with warhawk was free. This is a pass for me, I'll just stick with the PS Eye, so far no other headset has matched its audio quality IMO and you don't have to wear a headset.
Kodros @ Apr 14th 2008 4:19PM
Using open mic with the PSEye sucks though. I have to unplug it when playing CoD4 and Burnout.
Tru-blu @ Apr 14th 2008 1:04PM
...well...maybe...maybe not. But sure looks cooler!
Kieran @ Apr 14th 2008 1:07PM
UK please.
Matt @ Apr 14th 2008 1:15PM
So...who the hell is PDP that they're making this thing?
I don't know about you but for $60, forget that garbage...I don't trust it from a company I don't know, just because it's a gimmick from an AWESOME video game. No, that's not sarcasm, it IS an awesome video game but that doesn't merit another $60 on a crappy product that may not even be good.
I'll wait and see if I hear anything good about it, and if the price goes down...
thinkofmeasmra @ Apr 14th 2008 2:00PM
@ Matt
I love how you call it crappy immediately before saying it "may not even be good." For you to call it crappy, you have to accept the notion it IS crappy, not may be crappy.
Besides, do you have any idea how much high end electronics manufatures you may not have heard of because they dont usually sell directly to the public?? Thats like Matisumi or whatever hard drives that LG, Sony, etc buy and rebrand as thier own. Theres alot of that kinda stuff. Look into high competition grade car audio hardware and you wont see Sony Explode, or the brands your used to seeing at best buy.
Thats just how it is
Matt @ Apr 14th 2008 2:41PM
I apologize for my seemingly harsh statement. However, I was just making the point that I'm not paying $60 for something I don't trust. When I said it was garbage, I meant that the price tag was garbage in my opinion. I wouldn't pay $60 for something like that without knowing the company or having tried the product myself.
And yes, I did call it crappy in the same sentence as "may not be good". I shouldn't call it crappy, because you're right, I haven't tried it. However, I will say that I stand by the statement that it may not be good. I acknowledge that high end companies don't generally sell directly to consumers. That's why we get Linksys routers instead of Cisco. (Bad example of course since we all have seen Cisco commercials, but you get the idea)
Anyway, my point remains that I would not trust it until I heard something about the company. I would have called it a smart move had Sony branded it as their own, given that MGS4 is (theoretically, and this is not my point of argument anyway) a PS3 exclusive. All I was saying was my initial reaction was that this would not be a high quality product, and my faith in the item is not strengthened by a company I've never heard of producing it. I don't see that these are invalid, though I will agree that using the phrase "crappy product" was a bit harsh.

And on a similar note, I agree that Jawbone would have been a perfect candidate. In the consumer market, Jawbone is well respected for high grade bluetooth headsets. They would have made a product I would have bought (not at $60, mind you, but maybe at $30-40) with less hesitance due to the fact that I am aware of where it's coming from, and that there is a likelihood of good quality based on previous experience.
MCX @ Apr 14th 2008 4:02PM
No one has to comment to buying it yet. Unless you are a PS3Fanboy. I would like to see at lease some response or review of it before I decide. Don't trash a product no one has even touched yet.
Matt @ Apr 14th 2008 7:24PM
I'm allowed to talk in anticipation aren't I? There's nothing wrong with it. I don't believe my opinion is fact, I'm just stating the problems that I personally have with it. It's not GOING TO BE crappy. It COULD be. That's all I intended to say. (Although calling it crappy in the END of my first post was a poorly worded statement, which I already apologized for the misunderstanding for...)
Just like some people say "Oh man, MGS4 is going to be amazing!" I can say "It's not going to be great" about a peripheral I don't expect much from. MGS4 being great is an opinion which few people have proven either way due to the fact that there hasn't been an open demo, so while I would say it's different due to watching trailers, it is still impossible to say it's amazing. Just like when I say I think something will be poor, it's an opinion. So I think I'm perfectly justified in saying what I expect, as others do. Just because it's negative doesn't mean I can't share an opinion of mine.
vegi-saurus @ Apr 14th 2008 1:18PM
That's how you milk a snake.
I hope Konami will bundle the headset for a MGS4 Xtremely Awesome LE package.
Dahk @ Apr 14th 2008 4:31PM
Yeah, but this is cool milking. If they have this for launch, I'd fully get everything metal gear solid related, even if their not licensed by Konami ahaha.
IMHO, this is FUGLY. But I REALLY REALLY want one!
Christian @ Apr 14th 2008 1:24PM
Discussion on NeoGAF about this item, but it looks like it could be fake. Notice the differences in the power button from the different angles. Different size, so who knows...
2Perfect @ Apr 14th 2008 1:33PM
Oh man... and I just ordered the Jabra BT125. Is this one coming cheaper when bundled with MGS? If not, then I'm fine with my Jabra :P Got it for $35 off on a short few-days sale at Future Shop.
upz @ Apr 14th 2008 2:52PM
I'm in a similar situation. I literally JUST bought a headset in anticipation for Metal Gear Online before reading this article. *Sigh...
Riley Freeman @ Apr 14th 2008 1:41PM
they should have asked jawbone to do it the fact their headset is military grade and its the best one on the market. jawbone would have madethis the perfect must have
sean @ Apr 14th 2008 1:45PM
damn thats costs as much as the actual game. anyone wanna donate one to me lol
JAH75157 @ Apr 14th 2008 2:33PM
60 bucks? no thanks.
it is awesome though. but i'm not throwing that much money at a headset, i'll just settle for the one that will come with the socom game, until then i'll stick with my jabra from warhawk.
Deathrace King @ Apr 14th 2008 2:38PM
The behind-the-ear piece and the foam pad that rests against your ear look EXACTLY like the one on the Xbox 360 wireless headset, so I wouldn't doubt if this is made by the same company (even though the 360 one isnt BT). If that's the case, expect this to be BIG and nothing you'd want to use with your cell phone.
never$$hort @ Apr 14th 2008 2:56PM
This is a pass for me, I'll just stick with the PS Eye, so far no other headset has matched its audio quality and you don't have to wear a headset.
NukeAssault @ Apr 14th 2008 2:58PM
Cool... but for 60 bucks.... no.
Jon @ Apr 14th 2008 2:59PM
It looks cool and all, but I'll wait for the early adopters to deal with its performance issues before I decide if it's worth $60.
Alexander @ Apr 14th 2008 3:23PM
Metal Gear?!
The_Black_Circle @ Apr 14th 2008 3:30PM
60$ is a pretty good deal...IF these headsets are in limited quantity.
anthonyjh @ Apr 14th 2008 3:56PM
Yeah, fake. A twelve pound headset? You all can have fun with that.
JAH75157 @ Apr 14th 2008 4:07PM
that's a case qty weight
of most likely 12
seeing as the weight of the product with packaging is .5lbs for one
Reesimo @ Apr 14th 2008 4:02PM
Do Want!
Livi70590 @ Apr 14th 2008 4:16PM
£30/40 for a headset!
hang on
[double takes]
$60!
itsastckup @ Apr 14th 2008 5:53PM
Has anyone noticed that this is bluetooth 2.0 but only has a range of 30 feet? Bluetooth 2.0 should have a range of 60 some odd feet (double the range of BT1.2).
RazLeboL @ Apr 14th 2008 11:02PM
Isn't this fake?
snake79 @ Apr 15th 2008 12:06AM
oh my god!~ i gotta have this!! I'll use it for my handphone as well!!!!!
itsastckup @ Apr 15th 2008 10:11AM
It seems like it would have a nice speaker in the earpiece though.
This was rumored to be coming out before on ps3fanboy. I cant find the article though. It was not too long ago. Anyone else remember?
Tom @ Jun 28th 2008 12:52PM
Has this been released in America Junior yet? (Canada)
