First 'Metal Gear Monday' PS.Blog post details MGO beta
Mondays are about to get a lot more interesting for fans of Metal Gear Solid. Every week new info will be posted on the PlayStation.Blog for anyone who wants to learn more about Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online (we suspect that's a lot of you!) The first post details exactly what will take place during the Metal Gear Online beta that begins this month, including screenshots of the levels, weapon details and more.
The post also guides you through creating a Konami ID (previously a Japan-only affair, but now available worldwide) and setting yourself up to play the Metal Gear Online beta. The beta itself will take place between April 21st and May 5th (though it ends on May 6th for Europe) and you will require a beta key in order to take part (Europeans needn't worry about this - the beta is open for everyone in the region). As yet, there's no word on cross-region play, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

I tried to reg. last night but the server was just getting pounded. I'll try again tonight.
jtedesco33 @ Apr 15th 2008 8:48AM
My beta key says not to try and register until April 17th?
troop23 @ Apr 15th 2008 8:50AM
READ THIS: http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/who.html
states that characters like Solid Snake will help you. Bet it is a AI system or power up.
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 9:34AM
I agree, I bet Snake among other characters will be like assist trophies in Brawl or the chopper/air strike in CoD4
JAH75157 @ Apr 15th 2008 9:03AM
beta key won't work till the 17th, i allready made a konami id. YAY!!!
shaunzeh @ Apr 15th 2008 9:09AM
does anyone know if Australia falls under the Euro open beta?
MrCow @ Apr 15th 2008 9:17AM
yes australia falls under the Euro open beta
anyways do you still have to create those Konami IDs even if you live in europe?
JAH75157 @ Apr 15th 2008 9:20AM
yes
fersis @ Apr 15th 2008 9:28AM

Dahk @ Apr 15th 2008 9:33AM
Mmmm listening to MGS3 Soundtrack. Here we go! Two months of MGS madness starts NOW!
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 9:34AM
is anyone else having problems with the posts? I've submitted three since yesterday and once submitted they disappear and i get no email.
(hope this goes through)
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 9:35AM
of course this one gets posted. . .
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 9:36AM
agreed. sounds like the equivalent of assist trophies in Smash or air strikes and helicopters in CoD4. sounds pretty cool. I'm still kind of confused about MGO. I can deal with the game being a third person shooter (which I'm not too fond of), I can deal with Konami milking Metal Gear to the last drop (MGS Big Head extravaganza Racer coming soon), but a third person CoD4-esque MGS thats online only with man catapults thrown here and there? It's mere existence confuses and angers Gaucho. Rabble. . . rabble rabble.
fersis @ Apr 15th 2008 10:02AM
third person CoD4-esque MGS ?
MGO for PS3 came first than COD4.
Besides if you look for that COD4 awesome madness and frantic gameplay in MGO . you gonna be disapointed, MGO has a different 'pace' its more slow than COD4, and is team based.
Its gonna be sweet :D
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 10:23AM
I guess thats my gripe with it. I guess I never saw MGS as anything other than a single player stealth game with a great story. I dont really like the idea of team A versus team B with Metal Gear. I won't knock it until I try it but. . .
fersis @ Apr 15th 2008 10:57AM
just dont expect COD4 from MGO. they are two different games.
MGS4 will come with MGO Starter Pack , so you can try it.
Cheers
Dahk @ Apr 15th 2008 11:39AM
Just to be clear, "Starter Pack" technically means... the FULL game.
Lol it's only "starting" because later on you can get DLC.
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 12:45PM
I wish they would do something like MGS VR missions for the PS3. that game was really fun and simple. pretty funny too.
just out of curiosity does anyone know why i cant login to my handle on PS3fanboy but i can on engadget? also a lot of my posts dont post.
James @ Apr 15th 2008 10:15AM
Is MGO subscription based? It says that once I confirm the ID they'll walk me through setting up Konami ID Online Payment. If it is, do we know how much it'll cost?
chowley @ Apr 15th 2008 10:50AM
If it is, its criminal to say the least and they can suck on my mushroom tip. Nothing but an mmo can be justified for a subscription in my opinion. The deluge of DLC will milk it enough as it is. Thats another wind up when you consider PC DLC being free for so long.
fersis @ Apr 15th 2008 11:14AM
No ,MGO doesnt require monthly payment.
What its says is :with your Konami ID , you can buy cards, used to buy stuff. in MGO would be , maps ,game mods and stuff like that.
Its like the PSN Cards but from Konami.
Cheers
Remember:Konami ID's are a couple of years old, and are used on other games and services beside MGO.
RS @ Apr 15th 2008 11:57AM
Not too sure if this is the right place for this but what the hell.
Does anyone know if the beta keys are still being given out with MGS4 pre-orders now that the beta is going live? I'm unable to go pre-order it until next Monday, so I'm wondering if I'll be shafted for the beta key.
thanks
Maci @ Apr 15th 2008 2:32PM
My guess is that you can get a beta key with any preorder that still has them in stock. I was informed by my game stop that the beta keys are in limited supply and are on a first come first serve basis. So if you can get your hands on one, then I don't see why Konami won't let you register after the initial date.
chowley @ Apr 15th 2008 12:01PM
@ Fersis
Thanks for that info :)
wooo! :P
*relief*
MJ @ Apr 15th 2008 1:47PM
Anyone having trouble creating a Game ID? The main Konami ones fine but i just get:
Please enter a GAME ID password 4-16 numbers in length.
Please enter a GAME ID password (Reenter to confirm) 4-16 numbers in length.
Even though i've entered them in the spaces?
Maci @ Apr 15th 2008 2:40PM
NUMBERS. Oddly, the password must be done with just NUMBERS. I don't recommend entering your ATM Pin number.
Derek @ Apr 15th 2008 8:28PM
I got in. YESSSSS!!!!!
boxmyth @ Apr 16th 2008 2:54AM
My god. I just wasted 30 minutes trying to make a Konami ID and FAILED (email already taken, Konami ID and Game ID cannot match, password must be 8-16 alphanumeric symbols, Konami ID password and Game ID password cannot match...). Fudge that. I might just skip the beta if they're gonna pull this crap.
aMIGA_dUDE @ Apr 16th 2008 3:37AM
Dont you think this waste of time. Why dont they use PSN, I have no idea. For Yanks just get demo to get enter your pre-order number in an save it on your harddrive.
Sorry but Konami ID thing is pointless and will not pay for anything using it! Only PSN will get my cash or nothing.
End of.
Julio @ Apr 16th 2008 5:39AM
just a warning: KONAMI is deleting the accounts made from people outside Japan (well, they deleted mine at least)
