It's live! Firmware 2.30 ready to download

You'll find broken image placeholders in many places, as things still seem to be in the middle of construction. Some complained that the O button shouldn't close the Store -- it doesn't anymore. Now, it simply takes you back one page. And yes, the new Store is much, much faster.
There's a few new additions already available on the Store, such as a new Super Stardust HD update and the Lair patch. Go to Network Update on your PS3 and get downloading -- tell us what you think of the new PS Store!

Another super stardust HD update??
Lars @ Apr 15th 2008 9:20PM
Yeah, it's awesome! I love this new era of console gaming where they keep games alive like they do on PC's.
Not so happy with the new store though. It's OK, but L1 and R1 no longer work, so browsing the store is clunkier. I think they could have better spent their programmer's time on something else.
Ag @ Apr 25th 2008 6:17PM
how do i download or get either version 1.80 OR 2.3 firmware on my PS3. 20g
Ag @ Apr 25th 2008 6:21PM
can you help me, update my firmware plz!??
VIETZOMB @ Apr 15th 2008 12:36AM
no in game XMB? common Sony.
ruibing @ Apr 15th 2008 12:48AM
Jeez give it a rest. Do you realize how hard Sony works to rectify weaknesses to their hardware and software? Some people thought the Store needs to be redesigned, it gets done. Some wants HD audio, it gets done. Some wants in game xmb, it'll happen, just be patient.
Jove @ Apr 15th 2008 12:56AM
they never said it was coming with this update
leiwei @ Apr 15th 2008 1:15AM
True that, Sony works pretty hard to give us what we want. So far, the only other big things we're hoping for is In-game XMB & Home. They're probably just tuning everything up to make sure it runs well with some added oomph.
David @ Apr 15th 2008 2:33PM
No, let's face facts. This is an example of finally getting something we should've alway had. Celebrating "new" rumble and finally getting a decent (well the new store's AMAZING, but the old was was less than decent) store should be decidedly tempered. I appreciate them striving to give us quality, but I don't like how they handled things in the beginning. Fortunately, now that we've crossed this bridge there aren't many cons that really need to be addressed so it's pretty much gravy from now on.
never$$hort @ Apr 15th 2008 3:12PM
@David
The blame is partly on M$... They created a console race rush to market. Both consoles weren't ready, yet they were released unfinished. This is exactly why the 360 is faulty and the Ps3 wasn't released with all its elements set up properly. I truly believe that Sony would have liked to have all these things up and running from the start but there was no way in hell they could let the 360 go unchallenged for 2 years, look at sales impact on the PS3 from letting the 360 go 1 year unchallenged.
Shadowen @ Apr 15th 2008 9:33PM
M$ copywrote the in game XBL option, but sony is slowly working a way around it. They also copywrote the in game music but they are finding ways around that already too, IE on a couple games instead of all.
ArtemisBane @ Apr 15th 2008 12:50AM
lair patch? might it be time to give the game a second go?
Daniel @ Apr 15th 2008 12:36AM
YES! DOWNLOADING NOW!!!!
shortyvs @ Apr 15th 2008 12:37AM
Ok I've downloaded it, but I've been stuck at a 99% install status for the past 10 minutes. WTF?
never$$hort @ Apr 15th 2008 3:53AM
I'm only at 30% and I've been downloading for 2 hours... Anyone else's taking extremely long?
deusmecha @ Apr 15th 2008 12:39AM
The new store looks nice.
But it's kinda hard on the eyes if you don't have an HD resolution. =(
Jove @ Apr 15th 2008 12:39AM
oh praise the lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps3fanboy is the greatest video game related blog ever in the history of...anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Schoolimangooli @ Apr 15th 2008 11:01AM

shaunzeh @ Apr 15th 2008 12:55AM
i like it.. but yeah, no in game XMB yet... ah well. the store is good. was crap about 15 mins ago, its quite fast in loading the pics and there arent as many broken image icons
whoiscraig @ Apr 15th 2008 12:44AM
2.30 is go!!
TAY @ Apr 15th 2008 12:47AM
Will download tomorrow but I hope it's a lot faster then before !! Woot
SimplePanda @ Apr 15th 2008 12:47AM
I can confirm that with "Shoot 'em Up" in the PS3, the audio now lists as "DTS-HD MA" as opposed to just plain old "DTS" and instead of the solid 1.5Mbps from before, cycles between 3.0 and 7.0 Mbps and is playing in full 7.1.
It sounds -AWESOME- video my HDMI receiver.
Also, "Reservoir Dogs" lists as "DTS-HD HR" and is playing at fixed 3.0 Mbps. Previously was "DTS" at a fixed 1.5Mbps.
I haven't even looked at the store yet, but based on the DTS-HD support, the store could be broken or totally suck and 2.3 would still be the best firmware yet, as far as I'm concerned.
Gaucho @ Apr 15th 2008 1:10AM
What speakers do you have? I've been looking for 7.1 but (it seems that) Dolby is the best there is for 7.1
Syn @ Apr 15th 2008 12:47AM
As of now... The new store is garbage, Missing Images, half the time the images that are there, don't load, or take forever to load.
Webslinger @ Apr 15th 2008 12:47AM
looks and flows nice.... but my store doesnt show any pictures of the games or icons, sometimes it does but not all the time... maybe just my internet
anyone else on the same page?
endzo @ Apr 15th 2008 12:50AM
yea no pictures..maybe they are still working on that? well like you said flows nice no delays what so ever..
James @ Apr 15th 2008 4:26AM
Same problem as me in the UK, just posted on engadget looking for someone with a similar problem. :-(
Scott @ Apr 15th 2008 12:50AM
It's perfect (minus the non-loading images). It is extremely quick (faster loading than XBL). It is very responsive (you press a button and the system reacts - no delay). The animation after you press X or O are very well done. And it has a very elegant, Sony-like feel overall.
This is exactly what PSN needed.
thewerty @ Apr 15th 2008 6:01AM
XBLA may be slower because it has alot more content than PSN..
Panacinos @ Apr 15th 2008 12:57AM
I like it but i wish they would make a version people with smaller SD TV's can read
mat @ Apr 15th 2008 1:04AM
here's an idea, go get an HD display and rectify that problem. there is no point in having an HD gaming platform without an HD display. do yourself a favor and go get a visio for 500 at walmart and enjoy your PS3
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Apr 15th 2008 10:27AM
now i understand not everyone has $500 to plunk down on a new TV like this guy above me seems to think but i do agree with him. the main point of the PS3 is HD gaming. i made sure i saved up and bought an HDTV before i even bought my PS3. i didnt even want to attempt to play it on an SDTV. you need an HDTV for the whole experience. they are getting pretty cheap now so dont just assume you cant afford one or anything, look around a bit cause there are always deals going on. i got a 27" Olevia with HDMI and VGA at 1080i from Newegg.com for about $500 this summer and they are cheaper than that now already. my friend just bought a 32" Vizio (that does 1080p on his XMB for some reason) from Walmart last month for $500.
i mean if you dont have the money then you dont have the money but shop around, they are cheaper than you think.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Apr 15th 2008 3:39AM
hey mat, here's an idea.
Not everyone can afford to go out and get HDTVs.
Panacinos @ Apr 15th 2008 4:01AM
thank you ChodalBerryWagon
and mat when i opened my PS3 its funny i didn't receive any "HD" cables did you? in fact when i opened my PS3 i saw only composite connections. no component or HDMI cables. hmm seems to me Sony KNOWS not every person who bought a PS3 has HD TV's and as such shouldn't make HD only programs.
i was perfectly happy with the old store least that one i could read!
mat @ Apr 19th 2008 8:59AM
not everyone can afford an HDTV. but you can afford a $400-$600 gaming system? well, i'm just confused. HDTV's don't all cost $2500, i mean, mine did but not all do. also, when you opened your box and no HD cables were present, i know it's been 18 months since we got our launch systems, but as i recall the reason we don't have HD cable in box is a cost issue for sony. sure monster HDMI cables are $100 but you can buy some economy HDMI for $20-$30. i just hate trolls that complain about sony.
Darren Tilley @ Apr 15th 2008 10:19AM
So you are using the composite cables that came with your PS3? That might have more to do with the fact that you can't read anything than the lack of HDTV.
If your TV supports it, go to S-Video or Component. Even if you are limited to SD resolution, the clarity gain is very significant.
ttate90303 @ Apr 15th 2008 12:50AM
Tried DTS-MA HD with I, Robot and all I can say is Woah! Wife was sleep so I had to keep the volume a bit lower than normal but the bitrate hung up around 5Mbps. Very nice indeed. Rocks!
whoiscraig @ Apr 15th 2008 12:54AM
The Super Stardust HD update is actually an expansion pack listed as "Super Stardust HD Solo Add-on Pack" for $4.99.
"Bigger explosions, extended music tracks, completely remastered sound effects and three new game modes - Endless, Survival, and Time Attack."
theb1rdm4n @ Apr 15th 2008 1:02AM
I am so glad for the new O functionability. I hated pressing O trying to go back and it would ask me to close the store. it was a pain in the ass, just like the web browser, i want to go back a page, but instead it asks me if i want to close the whole thing. it gets irritating.
xGOLDEN_ONEx @ Apr 15th 2008 1:01AM
i must say all the way to the second i went onto the store, i was thinkin this update is pretty pointless. Wow a new store i thought, but i must say nice job sony, its nice, alot better than the first one...Probley dont get this alot, but Thank you sony....keep it up
Daniel @ Apr 15th 2008 1:00AM
Wow...the new store is awesome! I really like it. Very quick and quite elegant. The images being gone will be fixed I'm sure...no big deal. Now I can't wait to shop it on Thursday!
ScottH @ Apr 15th 2008 1:00AM
very nice, great update.
Mark Perkins @ Apr 15th 2008 1:03AM
installed thnx
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 15th 2008 1:01AM
Checked the store to find "Still Alive" that was owed to use from two weeks ago. Not there, in fact, no Rock Band content at all.
Anyone find the new Rock Band songs up there yet?
adolson @ Apr 15th 2008 1:11AM
It's not Thursday yet...
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 15th 2008 1:44AM
You mean the Thursday two weeks ago, the one two days after this stuff came out on 360?
Are you saying this stuff is delayed another 3 days?
adolson @ Apr 15th 2008 2:08AM
Yes, and it's not news. Sony announced that there would be no updates for two weeks while they prepare for the new store... It has been posted all over the net, even here. I'm surprised you didn't know this already.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 15th 2008 2:52AM
You may not have noticed...
The new store is here. So I kind of expected the updates would show with it.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 15th 2008 1:51PM
Also, last PSN update was March 27th. That means it's been over two weeks already.
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/psn-redesign-unveiled-no-new-content-for-two-weeks/
"No updates between now and the launch".
"two weeks without new content"
"the European Store will not be updated between now and when the redesign goes live in "mid-April.""
The redesign is now live, the store is launched, and it's been 25 weeks without new content.
I don't think I was unreasonable in thinking the "past-due" items would be there when the new store came up.
theb1rdm4n @ Apr 15th 2008 1:02AM
Nice. Downloading now.
