Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now up and ready to be downloaded from the American PSN Store, and has been since midnight EST. The price of the game is $40 as well as 1.9GB of your precious hard drive space. Those of you who haven't picked up the, frankly, superior (and cheaper) Blu-Ray version can now go ahead and get your hands on the game without leaving your couch by utilizing the sexy new PlayStation Store. There's more to come from the Store later today and we'll let you know exactly what else is going up as soon as we find out.

yay! life is good!
Jem, did it download fast on the psn? i mean since its redesigned, not that you had a gt5p before the new psn store to compare it to but what do you think?
Jem @ Apr 17th 2008 6:42AM
I have the Blu-Ray version so I haven't downloaded it. I haven't noticed much of a speed increase when downloading other content, though.
Jove @ Apr 17th 2008 7:17AM
so the improvements in the navigation and aesthetic? werent other downloads supposed to improve?
poitch @ Apr 17th 2008 10:30AM
Took me 2 hours or so to download the 1.8GB. Though I started my download a bit before 9PM PST ... server were probably hammered.
I've tried background download after 2% downloaded and it didn't give me any feedback so had to start over and leave it sitting there.
Unpacking the content took another good 10 minutes.
The Patch download failed the first time, but that took a while too once it went through finally.
Downloading the content was just plain slow.
Too bad Amazon was late on my pre-order.
Amazing game as far as the cars and graphics, questioning a bit the gameplay in deed, starting with 35k and the GT-R being at 77k, takes a bunch of races to get to it or any other cars. Off course found online a lot of people with 200k cars already only a few hours the game was released ;)

I read a note on the download page that said I need to sign in every time I play the game. Does this mean I will always need an internet connection, even for single player?

this post says the BR version is superior? how is that? aside from not having to download some content, i dont see the advantage to the disc. its an advantage to me to have a top shelf game without the disc. ?
HAAS599 @ Apr 17th 2008 9:19AM
BR version has a special documentary called " Beyond the Apex" which isn't available to download.
Robert Smith @ Apr 17th 2008 11:30AM
Also, if you decide you don't want the game anymore, you have the trading possibility.
FrankTheCrank @ Apr 17th 2008 9:16AM
One advantage to the disc...you can sell it when GT5 comes out. That's if you can bare to sell it.
I got mine last night. The game is just amazing. Just beautiful.
Being a car nut, I just love this game. The car renderings are just phenomenal. The graphics are photo realistic.
Too bad you have to earn credits to buy the really nice cars. You start out with 35000 credits which is good for your your smaller boy toy racers. The GT-R and the Z06 are super bucks.
Also, check out the options for sound, there is this option for small home theaters. I have a decent setup with large front speakers. I turned this one and the sweet sounds really came alive. Lower lows, nice highs. Very nice touch.
Polyphony, I love you.

I played this at a friend's place yesterday and it's SICK! I almost went out and bought a PS3 that night. If it wasn't for the fact that GTA4 is coming out in 2 weeks and I know that will consume all my free time for the next couple months, I would've gotten it on the spot!
How come in the US there's not a GT5+PS3 w/rumble bundle available? That would really push units like back in the day sof PS2.

Where are they getting the numbers that BD is cheaper than DL?
Pmosis @ Apr 17th 2008 10:31AM
Yea I too would also like to know why the article says the BD version is cheaper (especially since I just bought it from PSN.) They are both $39.99, no?
JD @ Apr 17th 2008 11:01AM
I bought mine at Sams Club for $34.99 last night. It is just amazing.
frankym @ Apr 17th 2008 11:10AM
I am still on the fence about downloading...I have heard the visuals are insane. How do they compare with GT HD???
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 17th 2008 11:20AM
Hey Sony, thanks for finally putting the Rock Band songs up!
Oh wait, no, they STILL aren't up. Huh. MTV/Harmonix has sold over $6M worth of RB songs, you'd think Sony would want a piece of that.
We still cannot buy songs that were put on XBLA 24 days ago. Just astonishing.
Kodros @ Apr 17th 2008 2:02PM
Calm down, the PSN Thursday stuff hasn't been released yet. It's only been GT5 Prologue atm.
thinkofmeasmra @ Apr 17th 2008 12:33PM
I bought it the day it came out and I have not been able to put it down. I even brought my ps3 into the office thats how hooked I am!!
The intro almost made me cry as I watched in awe. The game is just crazy badass. Everyone with a PS3 should have GT5p.
For those who need convincing of which version to buy, I'd take the disk. On the disc, theres a lengthy install (about 15 mins), then immediately after that you have to update (300-400mb update -- about 15-20 mins), then the install of it which is another 5-10 minutes. In all, your lookin at around 45 minutes of downloading and installing.
Now say you download it...as one person said, they spent 2 hours downloading the game itself. Then on top of that it does its install, then the patch you gotta download and install, then the intro video (which is a must see) you also gotta download. You'll spend a whole day just tryna get ready to play the game.
On another note, "Beyond the Apex" is 20-25 minute documentary centering around the entire GT series and it's creator. They show how the game is made, what concerns the creator has and stuff. They even go over the creator's take on damage. It'll make you appreciate the game 5 times more. By the way, the creator says the GT series as a whole is only at 10-15% of where he wants to take it. Can you imagine what the next GT will look/be like?!

Unless you live somewhere without sales tax, the $39.99 from the Playstation store is cheaper. Throw in the cost of gas to drive to the GameStop and the online version is the better deal.
Matt DeCillis @ Apr 21st 2008 2:40PM
GT5p is awesome! And I think you can get it at buy.com for $36.66 shipped with no tax depending on where you live. And if you don't have a google checkout account, you can get it for $26.66. I got mine from Amazon and it got here on the 18th.
