Hunting down the elusive North American PSN card
Reader Jeff S. took this picture of $50 North American PSN cards and sent it over to us. He found the elusive prepaid cards on sale at a gas station in Fort Gordon near Augusta, GA. Now, one would think that these things should be found in a more suitable place -- say a Sony store or even a gaming shop. A gas station seems like an odd choice, but then perhaps a strange location like this suggests that Sony is testing the whole process of selling and distributing these cards.
While that last bit is just a guess, there is one thing we know for certain. A sighting like this coupled with a confirmed Spring release pretty much points out that these cards will be out in more direct ways possibly sooner than we think.
[Thanks Jeff S.!]

Ok guys, I've been hunting these cards for very long. I've had my
PS3 for over a year, I live in Mexico and have had to live with game
demos since I could not buy anything in the PlayStation Store even
though I have 2 credit cards (Visa and Mastercard).
So I am in Cincinnati for training this week and come across this
blog, I google Meijer in Maps and find the closest one to where I am,
got to the store as soon as I could and found them!! Beautiful 20 and
50 USD cards. I bought a 20 one and immediately call a friend back in
Mexico so he can test it in his PS3. Funds increased and he could buy
two games!!!
I am definitely getting a bunch of these cards, they DO work outside
the US, hopefully they will get better distribution and to other
latinamerican countries as well.

They have had these for 3 or 4 months on military bases. At the PX/BXs and at the gas stations. Maybe I should sell them on ebay.
Nate @ Apr 17th 2008 11:52AM
I was thinking about the ebay thing too. Make a few bucks and help out people who can't otherwise get PSN downloads. Yeah, it's a good deed... that's it ;)
HAAS599 @ Apr 17th 2008 11:54AM
not a bad idea but do it quickly
Shinogu @ Apr 17th 2008 1:32PM
Military bases? Really? Man, that's somethin'.
If this stuff about the cards having been available in gas stations and chain stores is true, then the recent blog post is likely just about them actually getting the cards to game stores. You know, where we'd expect to see them in the first place.

Really?
Dan Davis @ Apr 17th 2008 12:34PM
For every Zune card you buy the Zune Guy gives you a big fat-ass thumbs-up!

I don't have a PS3 yet (get it next month), but I was curious if you could add funds to the PSN Wallet with a debit card instead of credit card?
Kspraydad @ Apr 17th 2008 12:26PM
Assuming you are in the US then yes. For Canada no.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Apr 17th 2008 1:09PM
yea i use my debit card for all of my PSN and WFC purchases. it just charges it like a credit card and your good to go. WFC got a little fussy with my card at one point but its good now and i dont think i even had a problem with the PSN.
yungkilla01 @ Apr 19th 2008 12:34AM
Yes u can. i buy debit "pre-paid" cards at the mall. you could even get them at ACE CASH EXPRESS, i use "SIMON" but after it runs out of money you must go get a new pre-paid card and re-inter a new card number on the account info. its quiet eseay well for me.
its so easy no vredit cards required, i dont know why people complain so much. thats how i bought Tekken DR and everything else.

We've had them in Toronto available at just about any form of franchised retailer since the fall. I honestly have no idea what the whole thing is about. I keep hearing "they're coming".. but they've been here?
Haiddasalami @ Apr 17th 2008 1:48PM
