A first look at Siren: New Translation

Get ready to turn off all the lights, close the shades and get scared. Sony's recently revealed Siren: New Translation looks terrifying. The use of visual filters and shadows gives it an incredibly powerful, realistic look, making it feel like a completely different game from the PS2 original. While no English language release has been announced, we're hoping that it won't be too long after its July Japanese release.

I wasn't expecting much when I clicked on that video, but I'm glad to say I was pleasently supprised. If it does come over and is as good as it seems I'll definatly pick it up.

nice, i was just finishing forbidden siren...so how much does game take to translate and realease in the US? can we see a octuber realease? i have more faith in siren than in the past silent hill...sh4 its ok they make a few mistakes, origins is just a copy of sh2 i think they forgot the game was supose to be scary. and after seen sh5 videos i just loose hope im still going to buy it but i know its going to be another sh2.
But siren is a totally diferent experience even if its diferent gameplay they know how to scare in pscychological way like sh used to be.
Have anyone notice that they dont use real faces like in previews siren games? i know its next gen but it really gives you the feeling of a movie they should have stick with that but you know..next-gen-it.
Oh and please..help me with my spelling errors im learning english. thanks

As if you read this, a note:
A) Please release this in the US! (duh)
B) While releasing this gorgeous update, would you mind terribly sending the US a few copies of the sequel that released in Japan and PAL territories. If you're feeling EXTRA-generous, you could even bundle it in with New Translation as a very nice bonus.
C) Please. Really...I want to play Forbidden Siren 2. C'mon. I'll even re-purchase Genji (if it will help fund the release for Japan Studio)! No, I'm serious. Please. It's not that I'm not excited to see this updated version of Siren happen, but, ya know...I've played it. Want NEW Siren things.

Siren was a very underrated game. It was a different approach to horror than Silent Hill and Resident Evil and the fact that most characters couldn't even put on a decent fight made it all the more nerve wrecking. As for the comparisons with Silent Hill, well, the game was directed by Keiichirō Toyama, the director of the first Silent Hill. Other members from Team Silent worked on it too. It's a shame that Siren 2 never made it to America. I think a part of the reason the game was not all that successful in the west was the fact that it's a game that's very Japanese in nature, from the characters to the folklore, and that alienated a few people from actually getting into the game. That's probably the reason why most playable characters in this remake will be foreigners. The setting will be the same, as will the overall plot, but now part of the horror aspect of the game is the fact that the main characters are in an unfamiliar country experiencing all sorts of unnatural events. I'm really looking forward to this game, it looks like it's gonna be one hell of a scare. And hopefully, if they translate the game, the voice acting is better this time around... Cause the original was god awful...

They're retelling the story of the first game through the eyes of a different character, so it's not strictly a remake. Call me curious, I'm intrested to see how thins one turns out.

actually, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to import in. All the dialogue is english, except maybe some of teh Japanese that speak. The missions are translated too. Which really makes it also easy to translate. I just dled the Demo off the Japanese Playstation Store. It looks VERY fun ^_^

If anyone has played the demo, I'd appreciate more information on the translation. I'd really like to import this game, but I don't know much Japanese at all, and I'd rather not miss anything. How much Japanese is left untranslated, and would it have an impact on the gameplay and story? Are the menus, mission objectives and obtainable documents all in English? Are there subtitles for the Japanese voice acting?
