Grand Theft Auto IV has gone gold, in transit

It looks like Grand Theft Auto IV is making good time on its way to an April 29 release. The game has gone gold which means (and you should all know this by now) that the game is done and being mass produced. In this case, however, GTA IV is not only gold but already mobile -- the games are shipping out to retailers.

At this point, the only thing that could stop the game now is if they somehow found a mistake with the printing ... or if some impatient gamers plan a GTA of their own and steal one of the delivery trucks. We're not trying to make you worry with our doomsday scenarios -- just pointing out the possibilities. April 29 is less than two weeks away, are you excited?

BOY is it going to be a bummer when I pick it up and read the back to find out it doesn't do 1080i. (Seems like that's still the only way to find out what display modes a game does)

You need to get with the times friend. If your TV can only handle 1080i it's ancient in HDTV years.

Jtenma - what are you talking about? Ninja Gaiden absolutely supports 1080i and 1080p.

Popfrogs - thanks for telling me something I obviously already know. Unfortunately I'm a university student and it's damn lucky that I managed to find ANY sort of HD-capable TV I could afford, so "getting with the times" isn't really a viable option right now.

Regardless of how small a group it serves, failing to support 1080i just seems lazy to me. I don't see how 1080i (or even a fake 1080i that's really like 600i/p like Halo 3 and COD4) is that much more taxing than 720p, which is essentially twice the frame rate.

I don't get why they still don't have a handle on this issue. I mean, those Burger King games for Xbox supported 1080i (as well as 720p and 480p.) Why can't most PS3 games?

Besides the lack of a scaler chip, I mean...

Yeah, I'm excited for all the news reports on it for the next year saying how horrible it is for our "children". I'm not going to be playing it anytime soon though. It's just not for me right now.

I know deep down I'm going to go through the same hassle with amazon That I had when Burnout Paradise was released... It was almost 2 weeks late being shipped. sooooo who knows. I pre-ordered Late January so I may actually get it in a relatively short time after the release.

why did you preorder through Amazon? did they have a deal going on or something? or do you not live near any game stores? just curious is all.

i know i would be pissed if i had to wait for them to send the game to me while everyone else is already playing. no thank you lol. i preorder at brick and mortar only.

Best case scenario, they send out copies to the Movie Gallery that I work at and I get to take it home and play like a week before like some major games have done before...Madden 08, Turning Point, Halo 3, and a couple of other crappy ones. Fingers crossed

I'm hoping it gets sent out early to me, from what I can tell with preordered from every site I've tried its random, some turn up early, others turn up weeks late, even on the same website. Got a CE coming so should be nice :)

Couldnt give a flying fcuk about this. I used to like GTA games, but im so bored to absolute death of all the hype, trailers, posts, rumour, discussion that frankly id get more excited about dropping a safe on my foot.

dude if they are shipping out already then i might have to start looking around to see if anyone will let it go before the release date. ive worked in retail game departments and i can say that these stores get the games like a week before release and they just sit in boxes in the back with a date on them. i used to work at K-Mart and i accidentally broke the street date on Crackdown once by a couple days and sold it to an inquiring customer. i mean i have a preorder and everything but if i find it early, its pretty easy to move that preorder money to something else. i may start looking around next week then, let the search begin!

I pre-ordered though amazon because I had a $25 gift certificate I was saving just for that purpose. thats all..... it basically covered the cost of all the extras in the Special Edition. I'm paying the same price as the regular version now.

I do a bit of shopping though Amazon so I'm not really shocked by any lateness anymore.

Wow, uh, I wouldn't publicize the fact that you broke the street date of a game. The publisher can sue the store for a SH*TLOAD of money when that happens.

The game has a NA release date of April 29, 2008 but I went on amazon.ca and found a release date for April 22, 2008 for PS3 if you preordered. Is this when they ship it out from the website or is this when the customers will get it in the mail? A week early would be pretty sweet.
