Midway reveals Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Midway has announced the latest in the Mortal Kombat series. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sees your favourite MK characters fight against selected DC Comics mainstays such as Superman or Batman. With a storyline written by "the Mortal Kombat creative team and top comic scribes Jimmy Palmiotti (Painkiller Jane, Marvel Nights, Jonah Hex, 21 Down) and Justin Gray (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, JLA Classified, Punisher Red X-Mas, The Resistance)" we can expect to see the game hit shelves this Autumn.
There's not much more information about the title, but there is a video, which we've placed after the break. It's worth a look, for sure. Even if MKvDCU isn't an M-rated game. Does that make the game a little less interesting? We expect for hardcore Mortal Kombat fans, that might be the case.

holy shit!! nice
Coriff @ Apr 18th 2008 9:13PM
Damn.. I guess it's too late to be an April Fool's joke, right?
This game could be pretty cool or totally bomb... lol.
Ty @ Apr 19th 2008 9:31AM
I was just minding my own business then DC UNIVERSE VERSUS MORTAL KOMBAT UNIVERSE... and was all like WHOA MAN!!! Probably using the UE3 engine... which is good
as long as I can beat the shit outta Batman.......
Dspidey7 @ Apr 18th 2008 9:17PM
Wow, I can't wait to see Superman do a fatality on some one, anyone, can you imagine him melting someones face off. That would be awesome.
Fraser JK @ Apr 18th 2008 10:02PM
Problem is that won't be the case. I read in GameSpot that the game won't be rated M, since no way will DC have their characters torn to bits!
I never though Mortal Kombat could get any worse, I don't even like Batman. Infact, I think he can't even beat Sonya!
Wayne @ Apr 18th 2008 9:20PM
WTF.
SG @ Apr 18th 2008 9:38PM
It's not rated M? Damnit. For the first time in more than a decade, an MK game looked appealing to me. Oh well.
A T-rated MK game is like watching Debbie Does Dallas on TBS Superstation.
Riley Freeman @ Apr 18th 2008 9:43PM
looooooooooooooooool. hilarious.
yea this game needs to have the highest rating of violence for it to be appealing. also it should kind of be a little open world so u can have a coop story mode but oh well.
jonathan @ Apr 19th 2008 9:55AM
as an oldschool gamer trailing back from the Genesis and Super Nintendo wars its really frustrating how lowww and cheap Mortal Kombat feels now MK Trilogy still remains IMO one of the best Fighting games ever when mythologies with sub-zero came out thats when shit started getting weird for this franchise
HektikLyfe @ Apr 21st 2008 3:58PM
Babalities did it for me. Liu Kang's Animality was the only one worth mentioning.
They should stick to XBLA.
MGS4 @ Apr 18th 2008 10:07PM
MAYBE, If go M-Rate or will T-rated? because MK want blood alway kill and blood gore so like Fatality? DC have fatality? O_o? If DC have answer play fatality?
KosmoCrisis @ Apr 18th 2008 10:29PM
I couldn't understand a single word this little kid just said!
Let me try to answer that one:
Am with the thnk will, MAYBE, go T o M-rate.d. But with ;P want Midwai want BlO_od then they with taxes. And code to have free ThE DC - fur koats eleegul.
I hope that answers your query. I do not represent PS3fanboy.com, but I think with the quality of that answer you may think I do.
Cheezits!!!

KosmoCrisis: hahaha! U rock.
bugatti23007 @ Apr 18th 2008 9:59PM
We should start a petition to stop this game from being made so Midway could make one game of Mortal Kombat and one Batman and one Superman .Nobody cares about the rest of DC comics characters.
I'm too lazy start a petition
Fraser JK @ Apr 19th 2008 9:49AM
Well there goes our chance to change the world, LOL! Another awesome classic series buried in the video game death pile!
Da @ Apr 18th 2008 10:04PM
Well your an idiot, because I think fans of DC (you know.. the people who would be interested in this gamr) Actually do like other DC characters.
I wish the internet wasn't filled with tossers like youself.
deusmecha @ Apr 19th 2008 9:51AM
Train wreck of the fucking year.

A person @ Apr 19th 2008 1:02AM
B-B-B-B-B-B-Batman!
Barndo111 @ Apr 19th 2008 1:06AM
This is stupid stunt casting. "Oh gee, I wonder if this series of games will sell better if we put a digital version of Britney Spears in it?" I refuse to pay Soul Calibur (Caliber, Calibre, whatever) any respect for the same damn reason. Good job on having developing characters and then swan songing with Yoda and Darth Vader to make an extra nickel.
Thank you Midway for focusing on making a game that is worth playing on it's own laurels instead of using a stupid gimmick.
Also, if there were a game where it were possible to rip people's hearts out, their head's off and their bodies inside out, how the hell do they manage to keep the same damn boring characters in every game?
Besides, any legitimacy with Batman left when Frank Miller stopped writing and penciling and Tim Burton stopped directing. And I would seriously hope that any superhero worth his/her own weight in intelligence (that IS what Batman used to win fights, right?) would never join a tournament to beat the hell out of each other gratuitously. Win a fighting tournament to save the human world? Dumb.
Thanks for milking a hollow concept Midway. Again, why are you failing?
matjam421 @ Apr 19th 2008 3:37PM
Tim Burton's version of Batman was just that, his version. While the Batman Begins started the franchise over and actually followed the comics quite well. Batman Begins was so much better than Tim Burton could ever do.
semalf @ Apr 26th 2008 12:42AM
totally agree...MK and DC do NOT belong together...i've been playing this series since i was three, and was hoping they would do something even better, with the new system and more capabilities, but then they do this!
same with soul caliber, yoda and darth vader? seriously.
ugh
they should cancel production immediately
DemiRonin @ Apr 19th 2008 4:52AM
It can try, but it won't ever be as good as Marvel vs Capcom 2
ONLINE MVC2 PLZ!!!!
Brandon @ Apr 19th 2008 11:27AM
Thanks Midway. You just destroyed the king of all fighting games. Mortal Kombat SHOULD NOT be combined with ANYTHING it was baddass enough on its own. And whats this with no fatalities/blood? thats like taking Arnold from Terminator!
Moose @ Apr 21st 2008 7:55AM
Funny you mention taking arnold from Terminator... cause that's happening in 09'

Back in the day a Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter would have turned heads. That day is long gone. No head turning, just sad, pitiful sighing.
Think Adrian @ Apr 19th 2008 1:22PM
This is so lame. I hate when they mix characters from "different worlds".
And they won't even allow blood n an MK game??
jahd5000 @ Apr 19th 2008 9:58PM
YOU GOTTE BE KIDDING ME i really hope this isnt de next gen MK wih he all new characters and so....toooo dissappointing
Lion @ Apr 20th 2008 11:32AM
Fatalities? Can I rip off Superman's head or tear out Green Arrow's still-beating heart?
While this possibility intrigues me, it wouldn't be in good keeping with the DC characters powers/abilities ... At least, not ripping off Superman's head.
I don't know why I'm even commenting. There's no way I'd buy this.
HektikLyfe @ Apr 21st 2008 3:55PM
No M rating. I doubt there will be any head-ripping. Can you imagine Scorpion without his spear?
Seasarsee @ Apr 20th 2008 6:48PM
Not so sure about this cross between two series.
HektikLyfe @ Apr 21st 2008 3:51PM
I'm not betting on this mule. I am not a hardcore MK fan but doesn't a game without the M rating take the mortal combat aspect out of Mortal Kombat?
Besides, weren't they DONE with the Mortal Kombat franchise?
MK1: Violence, secrets and video capture, Wow.
MKII: More Violence, more characters, more secrets, slightly better video capture.
UMK3: Fleshed out fighting game with interesting mechanics finally.
...it all went downhill from there. Shaolin Monks was decent but quite the departure from your traditional MK series.
