Universal announces Blu-Ray plans; Heroes available in August
This is a post we've been waiting to write for a long time. Not only has Universal finally revealed their Blu-Ray plans for the coming months, but our favorite Universal property, Heroes, will be available on Blu-Ray this August. There's no word on a price or specific release date, but it's nice to know that both seasons 1 and 2 will be available later this year. Finally.
Other Universal releases due out from July onwards include The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy II and the Mummy trilogy. For more information check out Hi-Def Digest's report on Universal's announcement. Please feel free to squeal like little girls about the Heroes announcement in the comments after the beep.
Beep.

Very cool on Heroes! The more Blu-ray TV series, the better!
I'm sorry this is not relevant to the topic--delete if you will, but I couldn't figure out a way to get this information out otherwise.
I felt this was a topic that you may want to address on your blog: the Eye of Judgement Set 2 cards are in stores today (April 18th) and yet the $15 downloadable expansion is nowhere to be found on the PS Store yet. I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Is there an update to the store expected soon with the expansion? I think it is rather cruel to release the cards before the expansion.

what about Matt Damon!!!???!!!
NickB @ Apr 18th 2008 2:14PM
There actually is a specific date for Heroes. August 26th, day and date with the standard release of season 2.
Brambler @ Apr 18th 2008 2:38PM
I hope they bring The Office to Blu Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John S @ Apr 18th 2008 2:47PM
Office, Serenity/Firefly, 40 year old virgin....I want thoseeee
Martez @ Apr 18th 2008 4:16PM
Firefly is confirmed to be coming; although if the UHD broadcasts are any indication, I don't know if I really want'em :(
never$$hort @ Apr 18th 2008 4:57PM
Firefly is being put out by Fox not Universal so UHD's pic quality will have nothing to do with the Blu releases PQ.
JAH75157 @ Apr 18th 2008 2:50PM

Where's za money, Lebowski?!?!
SG @ Apr 18th 2008 3:15PM
Heh. Maybe it's just me, but it was actually BECAUSE of the format war that I realized Universal is a pretty awful studio, by noticing how there were almost HD DVD exclusive titles that I cared about. The only recent movie from Universal that I want is The Kingdom.
...Ignoring the short-lived Paramount and DW exclusives, that is.
Geoff Gibson @ Apr 18th 2008 4:52PM
Yep, it's just you.
Universal is by far my favorite studio, and 2007 was a landmark year for them.
Knocked Up
Bourne Ultimatum
Children of Men
Good Shepherd
The Kingdom
Hot Fuzz
Not to mention the countless catalog titles they have like the original Jurassic Park and Gladiator movies.
Lets also not forget that they own Focus Features which produces some of the best "indy" flicks today.
Seriously... if anything I'd be more inclined that because of the format war you built up some sort of loyalty to the Blu-ray companies and instantly disliked any of the HD DVD ones. Just a theory anyways...
It'll be good to FINALLY get some Blu-U movies after what seems like forever since the format war ended.
:) :) :) :)

I like how you conclude that because your opinion differs, I'm completely wrong and alone. I made a point of saying "maybe it's just me" - I never suggested that my opinion was the only correct one.
And for what it's worth, I agree, most of those movies are pretty good (or are supposed to be), but it seems like relative to WB (which was format neutral for a long time), Paramount, Sony/Columbia or even Fox, Universal doesn't have much to offer.
And no, I'm not a rabid fanboy who just decided Universal sucks because they didn't support Blu-ray. Seeing what movies I COULD get versus the movies that were only available on HD DVD allowed me to come to the conclusion that Universal is probably the least important studio out there (to me, that is).
PS: I also think Ridley Scott is an overrated hack, so Gladiator doesn't mean much to me. AND JP1 was the only good movie of the franchise.
ehisforadam @ Apr 18th 2008 3:40PM
The Big Lebowski, that's all I care about. It had better be coming soon.
reson8er @ Apr 18th 2008 3:50PM
Not a fan, but its nice they are finally starting to release the NBC & TV stuff, hell anything...Universal has been rather quiet on their releases so far :(
I would love a bunch of the titles mentioned above, also would love to see the new Battlestar Galactica on Blu
Jaxx @ Apr 18th 2008 3:52PM
I agree lysol.....
Where is the Bourne Trilogy???!!!!????
never$$hort @ Apr 18th 2008 5:15PM
Be patient they'll be coming but the Bourne movies had massive amounts of U-Control written exclusively for HD-DUD on them which they have to re-write now for BD-J. These things take time but I think it is safe to say to expect the Bourne trilogy sometime this year (XMAS?).
El perron @ Apr 18th 2008 4:31PM
OH please, just wait till the dark knight comes out on HD-DVD!
Dorian Young @ Apr 18th 2008 4:50PM
SQEAL!

Squeel! I really want Heroes Season 2 on Blu-ray. I already ripped my free HDDVD box set of Season 1 (1.9GB each) and stream it to my PS3 with Mediatomb so I don't know if I'll get it on Blu unless the price is nice. I'd probably rather spend the money on storage for my media server.
I also really want BSG on bluray and I'm waiting to by season 3 until it's on blu. I already have 1, 2.0, and 2.5 on DVD.
What I need from Sony is for them to break the 4GB mp4 limit by implementing 64-bit container addressing.
HarryPS3 @ Apr 18th 2008 6:59PM
I want Transformers, now!
Nando @ Apr 18th 2008 10:22PM
Give us Serenity
goboColossus @ Apr 19th 2008 9:47AM
Indeed, Downloads are the future. But that future won't be for another five years, at least!
Never been a fan of BluRay (or HD DVD for that matter), but I feel obligated to defend it's existence. All those movies you download (and in fact, I download as well) from Xbox LIVE and Apple. Are "high-def" by resolution alone. The picture quality still pales in comparison to DVD. High capacity optical discs didn't allow us to view content in HD, but rather to view content at an optimal quality... in HD. Otherwise, DVDs would have gone HD a long time ago, and we wouldn't need these new disc technologies at all. :~
kentuckyfried @ Apr 19th 2008 3:27AM
Hurry up and bring out the Dawn of the Dead re-make. I would like to finally buy that.
Dan @ Apr 19th 2008 4:48AM
Mmmmm... High Def Hayden Panettiere... ;)
The Sound @ Apr 19th 2008 3:36PM
So you download compressed 'high definition' movies from Live?
There is a HUGE difference between downloaded and a Blu-ray, but your ignorant ass won't see it.
Maximun2k10 @ Apr 20th 2008 1:57AM
Heroes ??? OMG i cant wait... wait... i saw already...
Whats next ??? King Kong Blu Edition ???
New things please...
