Charity auction for Ben Heck's PS3 laptop
Remember Ben Heck's magical PS3 laptop? Well, now you can buy one -- provided you have the cash. Currently available for $8000 on eBay, 100% of the proceeds will go to charity: the National Cancer Coalition. The laptop will come signed and well, free shipping will be thrown in. Not that it really matters when you're already shelling out this much dough.

Try selling some of your liver, that way, it'll grow back, go under the knife again and sell some liver. You'll be super rich in no time.

lol it amazes me what people buy on ebay..and at how much, 8,000+ dollars? People must have money coming out of their ass.
You realize how many ps3 systems you could buy for 8,000 dollars? lol

I can't believe there's people buying this for $17k, i'd rather buy a PS3 and modded myself, xDDDD

That laptop really is a bad idea, not only is the price rediculous, but I'm 100% sure it could be damaged very very easily, unless he has some magic memory foam that can protect a ps3 from an accidental drop or something (doubtful) It probably overheats like a mofo too, who in their right mind would buy it, thankfully there are tons of retards in this country who will.

I take it from the retarded comments above that not too many PS3FB readers are crossovers from Engadget? Ben Heck is well known for creating *carefully designed* *well planned* portable versions of consoles. The point is not to make a commercial-grade product that a lot of people would want -- it's a clever hack that "hardware people" (e.g. computer engineers like myself) will appreciate for the challenges he faced and solved. He doesn't just take a PS3, build a box around it, and slap on a screen. He takes the whole thing apart, re-routes all the connections, and makes as clever a package as the parts he's given allow. I'm sure he's not dumb enough to e.g. give it insufficient cooling or a fragile housing.
Also, WTF is up with the "I could buy 10 PS3s for that kind of money" comments? The point is not to buy a PS3, the point is to a) own a unique conversation piece and b) help out a charity in the process. It sounds like a lot of the commenters totally *missed* that point.
