A lot of people have been clamoring to get a spot in the
Metal Gear Online beta and for the most part, everyone's been allowed. A few hiccups with broken codes, but Konami has vowed to help those afflicted by such misfortunes. The Poll Police are on a quest this week to see how your experience signing up for this event has measured up compared to the horror stories circulating on PS3 forums worldwide.
On a personal experience level, this Officer of Opinion had quite a bit of difficulty, but only in the sense of patience. Peer-to-peer updating was slow and destroyed bandwidth for most of a day, then navigating Konami's clogged site was a test in perseverance, but it all went swimmingly if the factor of time was removed. What happened in
last week's poll? The mystery is solved after the jump.

We're glad to see that almost all of you were at least somewhat excited over the new PlayStation Store. It definitely works a lot faster, has easier navigation, and is more pleasing on an aesthetic level. Overall, an improvement that goes beyond our expectations. Now if only we could get a wild amount of content up there, it'd be worth going into more than once a month ... oh well. Thanks for voting, everyone!

Dude...got my code...i'll sell it for 1 million dollars!
shaker @ Apr 20th 2008 6:11PM
EU beta is open and my Game ID isnt working ...FU Konami!
TinyTim121 @ Apr 21st 2008 2:56AM
Is Game ID the ID other gamers will see on the beta or is that the konami ID?
Brad @ Apr 20th 2008 6:10PM
So I got my code but broke my disc! What do I do? Can I still download the beta?
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 7:57PM
I hope your kidding ... The disc is nothing but trailers and back story ... Has nothing to do with the Beta at all ... The answer is yes ... i think you were kidding tho
GumbyX84 @ Apr 20th 2008 8:07PM
Disk has nothing to do with Beta. Its just a documentary on MGS. As long as you have the insert with the beta code on it, you are fine.
FixtSux @ Apr 20th 2008 6:12PM
The poll needs another option: "Only received a 9 digit code...hence the ID is useless to me right now."
JAH75157 @ Apr 20th 2008 6:18PM
i made a konami id awhile ago, but neglected to make a game id, so i had quite a bit of trouble getting into the site. i kept the page open at work and would try every half hour, finally got through during lunch 3 days later.
brad, you don't need the disc read the instructions on the sheet you got.
Condo @ Apr 20th 2008 6:29PM
Where's the option for "Still unable to get ID?" Every ID I try is already taken no matter how many random letters/numbers I add.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Apr 20th 2008 7:40PM
It came up with that for me too - just don't worry. Unless you suspect someone else might actually have your name, then don't bother changing it to something else.
What worked for me (after hours of trying) was getting the AutoFormer add-on for Firefox.
Once installed, go to the Konami site and get to the page where you fill out all your details. Make sure they're right, then go Edit>Autoformer>Save all fields. Then click next. It probably won't work, so try again, but this time all the info will be filled out already, so all you need to do is click next. Just keep doing that for a while and hopefully you'll get through.
I read somewhere that if/once you get to the confirmation page (directly after the info fill-out page) then you have to click 'next' STRAIGHT away once the page has loaded or otherwise it'll error, so thats what I did. You might want to as well if you don't want to risk losing the opportunity.
Also make sure that your Konami ID and Game ID aren't the same thing, and that your Game ID password is ALL NUMBERS.
Liquid @ Apr 20th 2008 6:25PM
Need another option for very difficult but still trying. Over here in the UK people are finding it very hard to get a Konami Id the website just keeps failing and getting error's. I have been trying since thursday and still have not been able to get past the D.O.B page.
Otsego_Undead @ Apr 20th 2008 6:59PM
Konami should have exptected this. How very unprofessional and amature to 1. Have people sign up for a separate ID and 2. Not have their website/servers ready for the major load increase... this is only the PS3's most important game. Get your act together Konami!
mouchoir @ Apr 20th 2008 6:35PM
Same here. The game isn't accepting my Game ID!
And of course I am unable to log onto the konami site to check my settings as it is half broken!!!
Hoffer @ Apr 20th 2008 6:31PM
Yeah, need an option for I've tried, but have not yet succeeded. I'm not super hyped about MGS Online anyway. So, I won't die if I don't get to try Monday. Hopefully by at least next Monday I get to try.
Quest @ Apr 20th 2008 7:01PM
Why is there no "I didn't get one at all" option?
dan @ Apr 20th 2008 7:09PM
i would be checking that option too, and surprised that they didnt have that option
RazLeboL @ Apr 20th 2008 7:29PM
Me too. Been trying for at least 5 days and still no luck. Fuck this shit... So fucking lame... I also had a 9 digits key and had to email them to get a new one.
Unabanzie @ Apr 20th 2008 6:41PM
Uk here. been trying for the past 3 days. still no luck. In all fairness they shouldn't advertise such a HUGE event if there servers cant handle it. and they dont seem to be in a rush to fix it. Not looking good for Konami really
aMIGA_dUDE @ Apr 20th 2008 6:57PM
If MGO uses KID (Konami It Dumb) then will get any of cash for add on's.
If use PSN then hell yes I will pay.
KID isn't up to the job. Now it can be proven.
Everyone who wants to play this demo has to be connected to PSN. This is working without a problem.

painkiller27 @ Apr 20th 2008 6:42PM
it took me all week to get my konami IDs but i finally got mine on april the 19th at around 10:30pm now i am just waiting for the MGO beta to start tonight so i can own all of you MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH d(^_^)b
Seasarsee @ Apr 20th 2008 6:45PM
Getting a replacement code took awhile especially through e-mail. Luckily I got a Konami code and such awhile back.
Jon D @ Apr 20th 2008 6:46PM
i made my id the day i pre-ordered....which was on monday. so yea, no troubles what-so-ever on my front. i didn't wait until the DAY-OF-PUNCH to try and get through. the site was already slow enough that day, let alone holding out til this weekend.
Otsego_Undead @ Apr 20th 2008 6:53PM
Where is the "I still dont have a fucking ID because the Konami website is a giant bowl of donkey douche fuck? option? And seriously, why the fuck do we need ANOTHER ID? Every other game on the the PS3 doesn't require ANOTHER ID.. what a load of shit.
MJ @ Apr 20th 2008 6:56PM
This whole beta has been nothing short of a complete joke.
If the servers and websites can't handle the traffic, then why ffs did they open the beta to pretty much everyone in Europe (i'm in the U.K. so not pleased they did but seriously looking like 'what's the point' right now). Surely the pre-order route would have been better (not to mention the fact that it could have meant we got the Saga DVD over here as well).
Opening it to every PS3 owner has caused this havok as not just fans of MGS or those who might want to try it out of genuine interest are trying to sign up for two IDs it's pretty much bloody everyone who owns a PS3!
Doesn't look good for the actual release of MGS Online packed with MGS4. This, along with the comments by Kojima and it's looking like the hype and anticipation for this title has a really major chance of slipping through Konami/Kojima productions fingers.
I'm the same as many, got the id, game id, downloaded that bloody update, yet it won't accept my ID and can't check my password on the website.
Coupled with the fact that it's not saving anything, having to accept the terms and enter game id even though i set it to auto login/save it's really pissing me off right now!
Really looking forward to the main game, but if this online business isn't sorted out in the next few days then I won't bother with it when the full thing is released, far too much hassle lol.

I think its just for the Beta ... all add ons will go through PSN ... you know Konami ID so they can get feedback and what not
frankym @ Apr 20th 2008 7:02PM
What time does the beta go up??
willykyu @ Apr 20th 2008 7:02PM
Same in France, it's just impossible to use the Konami ID's site. It's been 3days I'm trying too. But the best luck I had was to fill the infos and password creation's page, and then everytime, it displayed the same errir message, or just didn't load the page ( like RIGHT NOW)... well better luck 'till May 6th I hope..
PSRT @ Apr 20th 2008 7:03PM
I made mine the day before everyone started getting pissed off about the site being down. I had a 9-digit code too, but I sent that off early as well and got a replacement pretty quick.
Not the smoothest beta, but at least the customer service has been alright.
IceCoffee @ Apr 20th 2008 7:08PM
Wow, tomorrow (or today, here in Switzerland...) is going to be a MESS. Konami can't handle a simple, web based application (or decent servers...), how can they be prepared for the massiv run on the beta, especiall considering the EU Beta being free for all.
Well, for all people who have problem with registering an ID, try this method: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6856223&postcount=416
I made 2 ID's today using this pattern. But, be warned: You still have to try 1 Million times, but it will work!
Well, good night, it's already midnight over here *zzzZzz*

all I get is error when I put my information in I want my money back this is some bs
David @ Apr 20th 2008 7:30PM
how about an option for those of us still trying to get an id? and doing every sort of trick in other to get it (check here to see if it helps http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6856223&postcount=416 )
oooh I forgot...My internet connection isn't very good, still I've been able to download even the biggest demos from the PSN with ease (just leave the ps3 a couple of hours and it will eventually download) but I tried to download the stupid MGO patch and after one hour it was still at 0% with 0.0000000kb downloaded!!!!!!
seems I'll never be able to play the game...and no...this isn't a horror story as you so sarcastically say in your post. I've actually just couldn't the process could really be that bad...but after having so much trouble today I can see why people were complaining. I know this is a beta but come on...this is getting ridiculous!
Unabanzie @ Apr 20th 2008 7:29PM
ok, after just under an hour of perseverance i now have my damn ID...
yay... thats an hour of my life i wont get back. am so dumb :P
Keep at it if you want an ID... seriously!!
JSK @ Apr 20th 2008 7:30PM
Still can't get one. If I cant play when this opens up I am going to be pretty disappointed, freebie or not.
Pointgod36 @ Apr 20th 2008 7:30PM
omg konami id is not working
kevin @ Apr 20th 2008 7:34PM
everyone who need id try this. for konami id use a weird name then do _ (underscroll) and then 3 numbers ... for pass do random letters then at the end 3 numbers, for gamer id do same thing for konami id but different name then for the pass use 9 numbers that are all different.
joeybwfc @ Apr 20th 2008 7:37PM
just created my id and i wont be able to try logging in until tomorrow, i hope my id doesnt get rejected like some peoples id's seem to be doing here.
kevin @ Apr 20th 2008 7:37PM
i made one luckily
vietzomb @ Apr 20th 2008 7:42PM
did anyone else not get their confirmation email yet?
JSK @ Apr 20th 2008 7:58PM
I finally got the page to work, turning off image loads in firefox seemed to help the pages from timing out.
No email yet, but I am going to attempt to get it to log in once this cubs special is over.
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 7:59PM
You need to keep logging in with your Konami ID and continue to select the resend confirmation e-mail button ... It took me about 3 days to get the ID and another day of clicking that button to get the confirmation e-mail ... You will know when it works because the e-mail will come through right away ... I had to do that resend thing about 65 times to get y confirmation e-mail ... sucks
JSK @ Apr 20th 2008 8:13PM
ah, so I cant even log in game yet until i get that email eh?
Lovely, took me days to even get the ID page, now I have to try to get this email.
Drake @ Apr 20th 2008 7:58PM
I had a lot of trouble getting it to work until I saw something on N4g. I didn't have too much hope but it actually works, plus you don't need to know much...
(Only works on firefox)
First you go to the konami ID website, click register, then keep trying until you get to the page where they ask you for your name, konami ID, game ID, all that stuff. take your time filling it out, and DONT CLICK NEXT. Open another tab and go to the the konami id site again... this time just click NExt with the default settings until you get to the page with all the questions. AS SOON as it loads, go to your initial tab and click next. worked for me on my first try
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 8:01PM
Yeah I heard that too ... I just kept trying and trying and it eventually worked for me ... Frustrating though because it said my original e-mail was already a konami ID and then it said it didn't exist ... I had to create another e-mail address and then it worked perfectly ... I would suggest doing it at random times in the middle of the night or early morning
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 8:04PM
If you haven't got a confirmation e-mail yet try this ...
Log into the site with your newly made Konami ID and password ... Select the button that says re-send confirmation e-mail ... If it works the e-mail comes through right away ... Continue to resend the confirmation e-mail until it comes through ... I promise if you wait it will NEVER come ... The server is jacked up even with emergency maintenance ...
BTW

UK here - Ok the Konami website is now working for any1 still up. I just got through the registration without a single problem. Pages loaded fast and everything. Must of finally sorted there servers out.
dragonric @ Apr 20th 2008 8:46PM
Any1 who says it was easy to get a Konami ID b4 12:01a Sunday is a f'g LIAR!!!!
JSK @ Apr 20th 2008 8:14PM
This has to be one of the stupidest ideas ever. Explain to me why they couldn't just use the PSN ID?
Liquid @ Apr 20th 2008 8:19PM
Its so Konami can make more money out of you I think. The Id is to buy stuff which may not be avalible through PSN. Typical Konami, Great games - poor online systems (PES 2008 any1 ?)
bluefrog @ Apr 20th 2008 8:40PM
Well, I've been screwed twice - unable to get a Konami ID (times out right after I agree to their terms, the second page) and I can't update my copy of the game - "connection error" after I get to 10% downloaded, and it won't resume. Whatever.
My concern is that the finished product will use the same methods to update, and I won't be able to do that either.
