RPG! @ Apr 21st 2008 3:54AM
NOEZ!! Oh well, more time to enjoy Broken Mirror...
Taylor @ Apr 21st 2008 4:00AM
You'd think they would have planned better for this. Did they only expect a mediocre turn out? This is so highly anticipated.
Lars @ Apr 21st 2008 3:13PM
You realize this is for the beta testing cycle?
Mike @ Apr 21st 2008 4:04AM
man that F****** SUX!! I was waiting up all night for the servers to open n then i come to ps3 fanboy to see if any news when they open and i thought my eyes decieved me when i saw that dreadful post title. Atleast i got my bud tho happy 421! lol (wake n bake)
Spalec @ Apr 21st 2008 4:12AM
Oh well, at least they'll get all this sorted now, and not have trouble in June when they game launches. That's kinda the point of the Beta. It's not for customers, it's for the devs to make sure they can get the servers working.
I finally got my KonamiID too at least...
TinyTim121 @ Apr 21st 2008 4:13AM
Wonder if this is for Europe or Japan as well
aMIGA_dUDE @ Apr 21st 2008 4:33AM
IT Europe as well that been kicked off this game but japan is still in action.
http://www.konami.jp/mgo/en/index.html
CHANGE THE TITLE IT NOT JUST USA.
Logan @ Apr 21st 2008 4:13AM
"Guarenteed to work 60% of the time,...everytime..."
this must be the other 40%. :(
xs3ro @ Apr 21st 2008 4:18AM
and what about the europen beta? cant connect so i am a bit confused :/
dblakenz @ Apr 21st 2008 4:21AM
It's not just the US Beta, the European has been delayed, guessing its prob the same for the Japanese too. I guess this why its called a beta and not a demo! ;) Tho I do wonder what sorta numbers Konami had been expecting, MGS is ONLY one of the biggest gaming franchise around and MGS/MGO is ONLY one of the most antisipated games for PS3 this year, Im guessing there predections were a little off...... Oh well this time tomorrow I should be playing *crosses fingers.....*
dblakenz @ Apr 21st 2008 4:28AM
Can read the official announcement from Konami here:
Europe: http://www.konami.jp/mgo/en/index.html
US: http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/index.html
RangerPrimeX @ Apr 21st 2008 5:06AM
Thought the Halo 3 beta was a mess look out here comes MGO. I am still waiting on a corrected key. Let alone fight to download it from the crowded servers.
Lavat @ Apr 21st 2008 6:12AM
You have to wait a entire day to get to play Metal Gear Online. With 1080p graphics, stealth action team game play, Novice Training play, Customizable characters. Think about it. For the next 24 or more hours.
Excelryu @ Apr 21st 2008 6:34AM
OMG This is the Halo 3 beta all over again. The beta was delayed as well one day and extended because of programming issues on that particular case.
JAH75157 @ Apr 21st 2008 7:06AM
oh well they are extending the beta a week though!
CLupula @ Apr 21st 2008 7:18AM
You know, I'm surprised Wretched hasn't asked his mommy to let him use the computer to come on here and rant about how the PS3 sucks and all. I figured he'd selectively forget about the problems the Halo 3 beta had and try to use this as an excuse to rant about how much better his broken system is.
JKPierce @ Apr 21st 2008 7:41AM
Don't feed it and it won't come to eat.
Matt B @ Apr 21st 2008 8:47AM
Mr. Yoon banned him.
stargateheaven @ Apr 21st 2008 7:21AM
This is the same for Europe too. Japan get it all again... :(
Christian @ Apr 21st 2008 7:21AM
Well seems people always underestimate the traffic. Remember how World of Warcraft suffered capacity issues when they launched. Well I guess this is exactly what is beta is for, to pick up on little things like this so you don't get them when you launch the production system.
shaunzeh @ Apr 21st 2008 7:37AM
daaaaamnit! was looking forward to this all day and now this!
INS4N3T3N @ Apr 21st 2008 7:39AM
I guess it's for the best! If they have started it then it would of been all laggy
Popfrogs @ Apr 21st 2008 10:39AM
I bet it'll be laggy on days 1-5 of the beta to begin with. If Konami can't prepare a _website_ to handle demand, imagine how incompetent they are on the game server side.
Brodie-san @ Apr 21st 2008 8:55AM
It's a beta. Which means it's supposed to have issues. It's disappointing that it didn't open when they said it would but that's the nature of the beast.
Metoo @ Apr 21st 2008 9:03AM
Oh well, back to Warhawk Broken Mirror and DMC4 for now.
Tanya @ Apr 21st 2008 10:12AM
This whole thing has been a cluster Frak. I took me 3-4 days to even register a Konami ID (I kept getting time out errors only because the site was running so slow), this morning I go to confirm my registration only for the site to tell me that because of increased activity they can't process my request, and now this. I mean what did they expect. They know how many beta codes they are giving out, wouldn't it be wise for them to prepare the proper amount of servers to run this thing?
I mean this is only the beta so I'm not going to get all crazy about it. I got the code through the random entry website so I didn't pay for it or anything and I don't even know if I'm getting this game but it's just a little frustrating at how difficult this process is turning out.
Popfrogs @ Apr 21st 2008 10:37AM
Yeah it's almost like Konami woke up one day and convinced themselves that a. nobody wants to play MGS4 and b. nobody wants to help beta test it.
In reality, this is the biggest AAA title of all time on the Playstation. Gamers are starving for something this great. Between this and GTAIV, the wait is coming to an end and we're all ready with a fistful of cash.
I would really like to see Konami sling some numbers, i.e. how many people sat through the torture of their goofy game ID system, how many preorders in each territory, etc. Shame they didn't do the preorder = beta in Europe though, would have been a much smarter marketing tool and allowed them to predict demand better.
Michael K. @ Apr 21st 2008 10:20AM
Even though I'm really excited to play this, I'm actually pretty relieved, because I have a lot of work to do this week (stupid college) so if its delayed until next week it'll work out well for me.
stacy daniels @ Apr 21st 2008 10:29AM
ya came home from work reay to mess mans up!! then NO.
unable to connect to server..lol, just a day so thats cool. i hope ;-Z
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Apr 21st 2008 10:32AM
i havent been a fan of this series in the past but i did want to try it out if i could get on the European servers cause im not preordering a game im not sure i want just to play a demo. that kinda defeats the purpose of a demo imho.
Popfrogs @ Apr 21st 2008 10:34AM
Well the thing is, if you're not a fan of the series you may not like this, and also, this is just a subset of the masterpiece that is MGS4. This is just squad-based online play (mainly). It does not represent even 10% of MGS4.
chowley @ Apr 21st 2008 11:06AM
Jesus christ what makes you think its a demo? Its a shagging beta. Its also the online portion of the game, dont use this to give you an idea of what offline will be like. Sneaking Vs AI and sneaking/fragging other players online is totally different.
Besides, not everyone should be involved in a beta anyway, this is all silly, a lot of people dont seem to get what a beta is, there could still be significant changes made and it could be bug riddled. I feel a lot of naive people will walk away from this with a bad impression and wont buy MGS4.
origamikid @ Apr 21st 2008 10:39AM
this is also delayed for europe....as i said in my email this morning
Pmosis @ Apr 21st 2008 10:42AM
This article is a little misleading.
The statement from Konami said they would provide more info tomorrow.
Its not really accurate to tell your readers that the beta is delayed until tomorrow.
Just don't want too many people to get their hopes up.
dragonric @ Apr 21st 2008 11:36AM
I knew it.. I just knew it. Konami's ID portal has been the bain of some users, and we all thought if Konami couldn't handle the ppl trying to get IDs.. and SIMPLY task (or should have been), how could they possible be able to handle the thousands trying to play MGO? These ppl do NOT know what they're doing. Kojima a perfectionist?? Wow.. his high standards doesn't seem to be that high to me.. and now this delay. Wow.. what's that telling you? This is seriously making me rethink the purchase of this game. (oh just a little to be sure.. :)
Byron517 @ Apr 21st 2008 11:54AM
The HALO3 Beta was as complete cluster F*&k as well! However you have to realize the WORLD WIDE RELEASE also plays a factor! Eitherway patience is a virtue and one day isn't going to kill anybody! Also give them a bit of time and judge them when they are launched.. give them the time to get wet before we judge..
steve30x @ Apr 21st 2008 11:47AM
I saw this coming. It took 4 days for me to get an ID so I can play the game. They realy need to get more servers if they are going to have an online game.
frankym @ Apr 21st 2008 11:49AM
Konami has just updated the MGO site indicating the beta will now start on 4/25/08 at 24:00 PDT. Does this mean friday morning at 12:01 or saturday morning at 12:01??
Taylor @ Apr 21st 2008 12:11PM
That gives me one day to try out the new call of duty 4 map pack. Still, Friday or Saturday is such a long wait. Especially since I have midterms next week!
Popfrogs @ Apr 21st 2008 12:24PM
I guess they just put in a big server order with Dell or something. Or they just bought 500 PS3's to host like the Warhawk devs did. :)
Lavat @ Apr 21st 2008 12:37PM
Put the start date to April 25th. http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/index.html
kentuckyfried @ Apr 21st 2008 1:07PM
whoa...the Europeans got royally screwed.
Chalk @ Apr 21st 2008 1:11PM
According to the official MGO site, the new beta start date has been set to April 25th.
Fozzy @ Apr 21st 2008 1:29PM
Start date: Planned for 04/25/2008 24:00(PDT).
http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/index.html
sigh
psocrates @ Apr 21st 2008 1:37PM
Its almost like sony had konami release the beta before the servers were up fully just so they had something on the store when it relaunched - but what sort of cynic would think like that :P
JAH75157 @ Apr 21st 2008 2:29PM
i'll say what i said at joystiq:
they are secretly saying that there is no more beta.
24:00 doesn't exist as a time.
it's like saying the twelfth of never.
Lars @ Apr 21st 2008 3:16PM
Most people recognize 24:00 as 00:00. It may not be right, but it's common usage. People just don't like zero.
Matt @ Apr 21st 2008 3:01PM
Gotta say...this is pretty awful. This just means that it's gonna be closer and closer to the GTA IV release. Which means there's going to be far fewer people who care.
It's one thing if the game picks up momentum for a week before GTA IV, but if no one has time to get caught up in it before GTA IV, I have a feeling a lot of people won't GET caught up in it after GTA IV is out...
Lars @ Apr 21st 2008 3:19PM
I don't know... it's a completely different genre. Personally I'm pretty excited about MGO, but couldn't care less about GTA4.
I loved Vice City, it was like being in an 80's movie. So I went on to play San Andreas and hated it.... it just took itself too seriously. It was fun as a parody.
