While using a release date listed on Play-Asia is about as convincing as using a release date from Best Buy, we're still interested that the relatively-unknown game
Tears to Tiara got mentioned on their site. The game is an SRPG and will be on the PS3 as a remake of the 2005 PC title by the same name. Thanks to member
konangrit on the PS3Forums, you have access to all kinds of screenshots and information.
But
Play-Asia is the most interesting as it dates the game for a July 17th release -- where before this almost nothing was known. We'll keep looking for more information as RPGs in most forms are basically nonexistent on the PS3 aside from, arguably,
Folklore. At least, outside of Japan.

While I agree the selection is still a little limited I don't understand how one can overlook a game like Oblivion. I spent hours playing that. There is also Enchanted Arms although I have only briefly tested it on a friends machine.

Indeed, Oblivion is one hell of an overwhelming game. It is a must-have. And even though it was released quite sometime ago, the graphics still hold there own against titles just now coming out.
You can easily rack up over at least 84+ hours on the game, and be a fractio through the main quest. Hell, you can, from after the very first mission (required), never do the main quest after 100+ hours!

agreed, oblivion is a great game. is it really a true rpg though? i think there are many ps3 users, myself included, who are dying to get their hands on some traditional or even action rpg's. sadly there are very little available. this is the reason i bought a psp...to play rpgs. i'm really looking forward to any type of rpg's headed to the ps3.
greg @ Apr 21st 2008 9:30AM
yes it is a true RPG. in what way is not a role playing game? it's not a JRPG for sure but that's not the only kind.

ugh. Oblivion was so boring. (just like every other western developed rpg) I'm not a troll, i just didn't like the game.
I returned the game the same day and purchase a PS2 rpg. (I should have done that in the first place. but everyone kept saying, "Oblivion is sooooooooooo good" "You have to play it")
Don't believe the hype.
Christian @ Apr 21st 2008 10:27AM
Frankly I think you didn't give it enough time. If you played it for less than a day (which I guess would be a couple of hours) I can see how you failed to get involved in the storyline. The game seemed a bit confusing a non-involving to me for the first game session. It wasn't until I sat down with it and ended up playing for 6-8 hours nonstop that I really got pulled into the game.
That said there are a lot of good RPG's for the PS2 also.

Actually, I found Oblivion got boring after a while. For the first 20 hours or so, I loved it. Then for the next 10 hours after that, I was starting to get tired of the repetition. The next 8-10 hours were more like agony than fun, and I eventually came to my senses. I liked the wide open world and the tons of choices, but things got oddly homogenous after a while.
The worst part was the convoluted leveling system that actually punished you for working on the skills you wanted to use. Oblivion became a strange backward race of "for God's sake, don't level up too quickly!" where I didn't dare wear the kinds of armor I wanted to wear or use the kinds of weapons/spells I wanted to use until I'd spent some time grinding other skills that I didn't care about. After the fifth session or so of banging endlessly away on petrified statues with my bare fists to level up my physical skills, summoning and killing an endless succession of imps* to work on magic I didn't really want to use, trying to pick locks that I could easily open with magic just because I needed the dexterity, and playing the unbelievably boring conversation game over and over again (and deliberately messing it up, because the game rewards you for failure as much as success), I figured that was quite enough of that. Thanks so much.
The story itself doesn't actually take that long, and you can complete it at any level. So... I can see the attraction, but even with a well-developed patience for level grinding (FF Tactics may be my all-time favorite game), Oblivion was too much for me. Your mileage may vary, of course.
* "You summon and kill. Summon and kill. I fail to see the logic here. Is sanity... the price to pay... for power?!"

Folklore has been the only sweet oasis in the RPG desert of the PS3 thus far. Sure, we see Final Fantasy XIII shimmering out there in the heat like some kind of tantalizing mirage, but how much longer must we toil to get there?
Maybe this Tears to Tiara will help quench our parched throats until we reach the promised land. I know nothing about it, but I'm certainly willing to learn more. And that Valkyrie of the Battlefield one is looking pretty promising, too...

Don't forget White Knight story :)
ComicShaman @ Apr 21st 2008 1:18PM
Ah yes, White Knight! I haven't heard much about it of late, though. But that one looks very tasty.
Goity @ Apr 21st 2008 12:57PM
Enchanted Arms was a great game! It might not have been a final fantasy, but it was still a decent RPG with an interesting battle system.
chin @ Apr 22nd 2008 6:25AM
The game looks fantastic. White Knight Story seems to be great, too.
