Burnout Paradise gaining motorcycles, night driving, SUVs, more
Criterion Games has ambitious plans for Burnout Paradise, promising updates to the game for a full year after the game's release. They've revealed the release schedule of their upcoming updates: "Cagney" will be available at the end of June. "Davis" will follow sometime in August. "Eastwood" will be next, in Fall. ("Bogart" is less than a day away for PS3 owners.)
The "Cagney" update will introduce a new vehicle: a SUV that's without boost (a first in the Burnout franchise). Custom soundtracks are also planned for that release.
However, we're most excited for August's "Davis" update, which adds two new features: a nighttime mode, and motorcycles. The darkened skies of Paradise City will clear up traffic, allowing players to race in the streets with less threat of crashes. Adding motorcycles to the mix is a great idea, but we're wondering if the crashes will look even more brutal than those featured in Motorstorm.

Sounds awesome, but how will bike crashes work, the reason there is no real people in burnout is to keep the age certificate down, with mangled bike crashes it will have to be pushed to a 12

balaam, drivers will banish when you crash thats my bet.
I think this is just a respond to the new midnight club LA, where you can ride bikes. Im really waiting for the custome soundtrack or a "restar race" after loosing..Oh! and 10 hrs till bogart update for the ps3!

I hope they don't put people on the motorcycles. I would love to drive around a sentient motorcycle through the streets of Paradise City.

Awesome.
I still don't own a current-gen console yet, will get PS3 next month so forgive me for being easily impressed that games now have DLC unlike the previous generations. : )

Just a quick clarification, but nothing important...actually the Xbox from last generation did have DLC. But yeah, it has really taken off and vastly improved in quality and quantity this current generation.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 23rd 2008 7:20PM
A few PS2 games (SOCOM) also had DLC. Not to mention FFXI.

Awesome, just awesome. Love me some bikes and I always thought that Paradise City would look cool at night.

Wow. I was going to close my eyes and pass on this game but criterion have changed my mind. Just goes to show how a good developer can gain both respect and consumer dollars at the same time. Definitely getting a new copy to show my support.

This looks AWESOME! Now if they just put a renderd version of the Hayabusa in Paradise, I'll be creaming all over myself!!

Night time? Motorcycles? Looks like someone is preparing to take on midnight club.
Syn @ Apr 23rd 2008 7:13PM
As soon as I noticed this... Midnight Club came to mind.
I still have yet to get Burnout. But my wife and I both like the Midnight Club series.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 23rd 2008 8:28PM
It already surpassed Midnight Club.
toefer @ Apr 23rd 2008 2:27PM

How is Road Rage supposed to work with motorcycles? Maybe they strap a stick of c4 on the side of cars? Knife the tires? I hope they figure that out, cause I would love to use it in Road Rage.
Trackdemon55124 @ Apr 23rd 2008 5:16PM
As mentioned by the ESRB any downloadable content that is mandatory must fall in line with its previous rating of the game. Optional updates on the other hand dont need to abide by this rule and thus content that you pay for can have theoretically anything. Although updates for Burnout to this point have been mandatory, the Davis update will probably be optional thus allowing for the bikers and their bikes to show off some terrific crash sequences.

Now the only other thing I need before buying this is the perfect price! ^_^
