Sony's official PSP cradle is a thing of beauty
Released in Japan, Sony's official PSP cradle is a magnificent thing of beauty. For those that want to use PSP as a mini-theatre of sorts will certainly want to snag this elegantly designed peripheral. The remote will allow you to turn on your PSP, and control every function of the XMB.

hey by the way, when do we americans get the Go Cam?
i want it so bad!
maybe if sony would sell us the camera and the iseg tv tuner, the psp would outsell ds here,or at least get close! >:-(
Kokomadeta @ Apr 28th 2008 11:19AM
I wouldn't put money on that. Sega's Gamegear was more powerful than Nintendo's Gameboy, displayed in color, had a speaker that you could actually hear, had a TV tuner attachment, and all sorts of other cool features that were better than the Gameboy, and yet the Gameboy was largely more successful. Same deal with Dreamcast/Gamecube/Xbox and PS2. The PS2 had worse graphics, was underpowered, and launched with crappy games, but the PS2 was and is more successful than all three of the others.
It just goes to show that features, benefits, power, and graphics don't sell a system. Heck, in the case of PS2, games don't sell a system. People aren't buying PSPs to play games and they don't want to pay $20+ for a movie that can only be played on that system. People tend to hack the PSP more to play classic systems. If people only wanted to listen to music and watch videos, they'd buy a Zen, Zune, or (at a much lesser extent) an iPod. So selling the TV tuner or camera in the US isn't going to boost sales enough to match or beat the DS. Even Sega's Dreameye couldn't boost enough sales for the Dreamcast in Japan, and it was a 3.0 Megapixel camera that you could either connect to the system or take pictures with (and came before EyeToy)!

Kokomadeta... you are my god now...
brendan_ngo @ Apr 28th 2008 1:00AM
Omg, then why don't they make a wireless controller too? :P that'll be neat to play games without having to hold the psp. (when not on the go).
JayFight @ Apr 28th 2008 4:00PM
if you notice at about 5 mins give or take they play metal gear solid with the remote
matsam @ Apr 28th 2008 1:41AM
At 9:20 they show off the PLAYSTATION Store booted on the PSP, sweet! I hope this beauty comes to NA.
Webslinger @ Apr 28th 2008 4:46AM
um dude..
it launched the PS store because it was using remote play with a PS3 which is already available to US for a long time now
matsam @ Apr 28th 2008 1:31PM
Hmm, my fault for not noticing that. I thought it was PS Store via the PSP's web browser we were promessed some time ago. Well, I'll know all about that remote-play stuff when I get a PS3 I guess, thanks for the correction.
knothead666x @ Apr 28th 2008 1:44AM
OMG that was really boring i think the remote is a stupid idea why would you want to play a game with a remote and it looks easier just to use the psp to look at pictures and watch videos and its not like turning on ur psp is really hard.
Wayne @ Apr 28th 2008 4:49AM
I'll explain to you why this is a good idea. As a PSP + PS3 owner I will now be able to watch videos and listen to music from my PS3 via my PSP on any TV in the house. Yes, some people own more than 1 TV. For example, I could start watching a movie on the TV in the living room and then finish it via remote play in the bedroom.
Aurey @ Apr 28th 2008 5:47AM
Whoever said anything about playing a game with the remote. The point of the remote is for you so that when you attach your PSP to the television via component cables, you'd be able to control whatever you're watching on the TV (via your PSP) with the remote. Not a very stupid idea at all.
Extinction @ Apr 28th 2008 2:41AM
If only it had analog nub support too... Then we could hack it to use a dual shock controller
Wayne @ Apr 28th 2008 4:49AM
Im looking forward to this.
Maninatrunk77 @ Apr 28th 2008 6:55AM
dude it looks like you could play games with the remote too? thats would be interesting!
elephant_stone @ Apr 28th 2008 9:47AM
waste of time
Dahk @ Apr 28th 2008 11:30AM
I wish this thing would come in piano black hawtness =/.
I dont' actually dig the design of the thing too much, and have beef with the design of the remote too.
Alien @ Apr 28th 2008 1:21PM
Its cool , but for me it would be useless :?
Wrathbringer @ Apr 28th 2008 5:41PM
Wow, that actually looks like it could be really useful when watching movies. I think I just might import one when it comes out, speaking of which any idea when that'll be?
b. dash @ Apr 28th 2008 5:51PM
Does anyone know if it has an extra jack to output video thru the cradle? Cuz I have my PS3 in my living room, so i watch Movies using remote play on the TV in my room. It would be cool if it supported output that way i could use da control instead of messing with PSP
pixelator @ Apr 28th 2008 6:35PM
Cradles with remotes are extremely useful for media playback. It's obviously not intended for use while gaming - the PSP is a HANDHELD, after all.
Sadly, as with so many games and peripherals lately, Sony has snubbed (for now) the US market... A market they badly need to inject with new interest to stimulate deeply slumping software sales, lest more developers truly begin bailing from what more and more are seeing as a sinking ship.
And no, even a cool peripheral such as this won't (alone) incite sales to exceed the DS installed base to date, but it wouldn't hurt. Nor would a few new announced titles along the hype level of GoW and FF, because so far very little upcoming titles in 2008/2009 really stand out.
sonyneverdies @ Apr 29th 2008 6:28PM
So, wait a minute. This doesn't come with speakers???? whats the point Sony!!!!...When the hell are we patient PSP fans going to have half the options of say, an IPOD...When??? I have waited since the day I bought my first PSP for a Sony certified Speaker Dock.....But when o when will that day come.
pixelator @ Apr 29th 2008 5:34PM
There are plenty of good PSP docks with speakers. Why does it need to be "Sony Certified" to be worthwhile?
Meanwhile, my iPod certainly didn't ship with an Apple cradle that had speakers in it. Like the PSP, there's audio and/or video docks/cradles to suit whatever needs you may have.
sonyneverdies @ Apr 30th 2008 7:38PM
what speaker dock is good? please tell me cuz I have been looking for one for a long time
