Ghostbusters on PS3 hindered because of 360?
We're not entirely sure why the devs for the multiplatform title Ghostbusters are setting themselves up the bomb with a flamebait remark like this, but apparently the PS3 version of the title is getting hampered thanks to the development on the 360. To soften this surefire console spit-fest, we're using an exciting kitty image, because everyone loves kittens for some reason.Terminal Reality has made headlines for saying that if they were allowed to make the game solely for the PS3, they "could double the amount of objects on screen that you're seeing," commenting also that "we've reserved one whole processor on the PS3 for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound whereas on the 360 you have part of one processor to do that." Take it however you want, but we know who we're gonna call this October. It's been way too long since that joke was even slightly relevant.

I think they are just making clear what has long been accepted. Microsoft has some way of forcing companies to make multi-console games identical. With the PS2 and XBOX 1.0, the PS2 games looked inferior. And PS3 exclusives are starting to look much better than multis.
So MS is screwing up the industry, and at least those game makers that are interested in making masterpieces, it must be deeply frustrating.
Imagine what GTA4 could have been...

THIS IS SO RIGHT :

Don’t believe the hype. The PS3 has 7 processors, six that process code and 1 that sorts. The 360 has three, but they each process two streams of code at the same time. It’s not really that much of a difference. He wouldn’t tell you if Sony demanded the PS3 be the lead. And remember, this companies claim to fame is Bloodrayne…. oh and Bloodrayne 2. We will see how good they are at programming since they put themselves out there like that though.
Phizzy @ Apr 29th 2008 6:40AM
No, that's not right. Don't try to get into technical discussions if you don't even know what a processor is. And don't cuntpaste the opinions of people like you, either.
Flashover @ Apr 29th 2008 10:15AM
Exactly...GTA IV although amazing as it is, could have, no wait should have been a bigger jump than it is. Processors aside the storage capacity alone on a blu-ray disc could have allowed for a much larger environment and a lot more indoor environments. Not to worry, Rockstar's secret PS3 exclusive with blow the doors off everything and give us a glimpse of what GTA might have been....
Jason @ Apr 29th 2008 11:55AM
Phizzy, I don't know if it was a typo but "cuntpaste" sounds pretty dead-on to me!
ArtemisBane @ Apr 29th 2008 3:58AM
why don't they just make a better ps3 version
Thoas @ Apr 29th 2008 4:09AM
Because M$ would cry like little babies.
adolson @ Apr 29th 2008 4:06AM
What the??? I've never seen that pic before, and it freaked me out at first because it knows my name. lol
Phizzy @ Apr 29th 2008 4:40AM
Never seen Ghostbusters either, I take it?
Dana @ Apr 29th 2008 9:30AM
Yeah, I saw Ghostbusters. When I was 7. Sorry if I'm missing a reference because I can't remember a movie from the 80s line by line.
held225 @ Apr 29th 2008 4:14AM
I have been saying that since i got a PS3... M$ is literally holding back the video game market. But until M$ drops out of the race (or better yet the console market) we wont see the full power of video games. And just imagine what GTAIV would look like if it was a PS3 exclusive (or any other game for that matter).... i have a feeling that the next GTA will be a PS3 exclusive .And im sure the developers have learned their lesson, if you want to create a Masterpiece stick with PS3.
ryan @ Apr 29th 2008 10:21AM
Call of Duty 4 was made side by side with the 360 version from the ground up.
Games will look the same no matter what.
Elwood JD @ Apr 29th 2008 1:00PM
Microsoft isn't holding back the industry, the consumer is. The consumer overwhelmingly adopted the 360, for better or for worse, because it came out a year in advance and quickly established itself as a great gaming console.
The PS3, unfortunately, faltered out of the gate and is just now getting up to steam. As it stands, it has a significantly smaller install base (although that distance is shrinking every minute). The result, to make money on these big budget games, multiplats are a necessity.
On top of that, this situation is the exact reverse of last gen. PS2 games hindered the development of Xbox games because the PS2 hardware was inferior to that of the Xbox. Why? Because it released much earlier. No one dropped the PS2 because of its huge install base, but the technically superior xbox did draw attention, multiplats, and some exclusives.
Of course, the same thing is going to happen with the PS3. Eventually, the PS3 multiplats will be much better than their 360 counterparts, and developers want to take the superior PS3 hardware and make exclusives (such as the R* Exclusive, etc).
skin.bintin @ Apr 29th 2008 4:05PM
Who says it would look any better? Resistance Fall of Man is PS3 exclusive and compared to Gears of War, it sucks. Just give the dribble a rest.
Fraser JK @ Apr 29th 2008 4:15AM
Well this is why I think another Xbox is inevitable, and that will happen when the PS3 is just a couple years into it's life-time, flexing it's CELL and whatnots!
Reymo @ Apr 29th 2008 4:27AM
Make it good the first time around . Obviously a saying that MS doesnt follow.
Joshua Kleier @ Apr 29th 2008 5:02AM
Weaker games!?!?
What a crime. Everybody had to run out and buy a console that the developers called weak before it even launched.
Chris @ Apr 29th 2008 5:17AM
Sony owns Ghostbusters. Maybe they had an incentive to say these things.
I still think if what he's saying is true, there is no reason they shouldn't make the PS3 one as good as it could be, but it could prove to be a below-the-belt swipe at Microsoft for the above reason - making the 360 version worse rather than PS3 better.
eddyk @ Apr 29th 2008 5:54AM
This dev must be so ignorant to pretend that the PS3 have 7 processors when everybody know it have only one and 7 (6 since one is reserved for the system) slaves that can't have a life on their own...
The XBOx 360 can handle 6 process at once each having it life on it's own.
PreGHz @ Apr 29th 2008 11:07AM
Surely you jest.
Don't you mean that the PS3 has a processor with 8 cores, with one reserved for redundancy? And that the 360 is a tri-core processor? And what are you talking about when you say that the 360 can run 6 processes with a life of its own?
And when you talk of slaves, surely you understand the concept of a multi-core processor?
Do you know how computer architecture works? You must be joking, because if you were serious, you would be a huge idiot.
Huge. Idiot. gb2joystiq.
Consolcwby @ Apr 29th 2008 6:19AM
Why does this surprise people?... So many devs of late have been singing this same tune. I guess, it might be time for a change of lead platforms on multiplats industry wide. The only thing we should be happy about is that it's the 360 and not the Weeeeeee! =D
Consolcwby @ Apr 29th 2008 6:19AM
*Wheeee!
Dan @ Apr 29th 2008 7:53AM
What everyone needs to do is buy BOTH systems. There you have it, problem solved.
numbn8 @ Apr 29th 2008 8:28AM
Welcome to the frustration that PC gamers have had for years.
jackmahoggoff @ Apr 29th 2008 8:32AM
Well - just look at the track record of PS3 power - 630p GTAiV?
Talk is cheap - proof is in the pudding...
Noshino @ Apr 29th 2008 10:10AM
yet the PS3 version is picked by every reviewer when it comes to best graphics?....ouch
True_Darknight @ Apr 29th 2008 9:05AM
Oh yeah it's called.. we are M$ and we could buy mediocracy!!!
What a crock!!!! I say Do what you most on each console... build it and they will come.
I mean I don't expect devs to make the same game for DS and PSP... it's called use the power!!!!
and we Already know GTA4 was gimped to fit the failbox360!!!
Ok I totally fanboyed today.. wtf!!! BTW Walmart had like 50 copies of the games easy.. prob even more. and they open at 7am :P
David @ Apr 29th 2008 9:11AM
As much as a ps3 fanboy as I may be. I'm not persuaded by their argument (we have double the processors so that means double the on-screen objects!!). It should be more complicated than that. I also don't understand why they didn't release the game for ps3 only. He was asked many times why are they releasing it on 360 and his answers were that the ps3 was a superior console...that doesn't answers the question.
Even though I still think the ps3 is more powerful than the 360 but his argument as of why seems too simple.
Cornerman8 @ Apr 29th 2008 9:27AM
There's a bevvy of things to factor in with regard to performance. There's the obvious difference in hardware between the 360 and PS3; processor, RAM, and graphics card use. There's a macro- and micro-level to the architecture. Then there's storage mediums; onboard and disc-based. That's just physical technical side of things, the human side further complicates things. If you're developing a game across several platforms, you're dealing with time and money. Its unlikely that any of the platforms are being pushed to their max. Not even the Wii. The more time you have with any particular platform, the more juice you can squeeze out of it. I don't doubt that they could get double the performance out of the PS3, but that's not to say they couldn't get a decent amount out of the 360 either...or the Wii for that matter. With all those platforms, expertise, time, money, and focus is spread out rather than honed in on making one spectacular product. I hope Ghostbusters is great, but I don't expect it to beat out top tier 360 games or approach any of Sony's first-party games. Now the Wii...its got a chance there :-) On another note, I think this is the point at which we begin to see the benefits of Sony's architecture choices as opposed to the 360's. We'll see that with MGS4, R2, KZ, MS2, LBP, all designed to play specifically to the architecture's strengths. The crescendo begins.
DukeFett @ Apr 29th 2008 10:01AM
"VG247: Why choose to lead on the PS3?
Mark Randell : Very simple reason: Ghostbusters is the property of Sony Pictures."
That's really all I need to read in this article.
iFester @ Apr 29th 2008 11:15AM
Seriously, if people want games to look awesome instead of all these console restrictions, go invest your money in a really good gaming PC. The console market are for people that don't want to spend that kind of cash yet expect the same quality.
