This Thursday update will surprise our Canadian friends. SCEA has announced that it will adjust prices on content available on the PLAYSTATION Store for Canadian customers. According to the press release, "the adjustment comes as a result of the strengthening Canadian currency and SCEA's ability to localize pricing within the PLAYSTATION Store." The prices will be adjusted during a window of time prior to Thursday's content update. As a result, we recommend all our Canadian readers to wait until tomorrow's content has gone live before purchasing anything this week. You'll most likely save a few bucks.
"We are continually looking for ways to enhance the player experience on the PLAYSTATION®Network, and downloadable content through the PLAYSTATION Store is just one of our areas of focus," said Grace Chen, Senior Manager for the PLAYSTATION Store. "We anticipate that this price adjustment will meet the expectations of our Canadian consumers and provide them with a better PLAYSTATION Network experience."

Jasius @ Apr 30th 2008 11:24AM
Well w00t! Sony is the better man whilst M$ still rips us off on the XBLA BIG TIME(their conversion rates our dollar at $0.65!) Well good for you Sony, hopefully you'll push M$ hand to do the same! (Well one can dream right?)

WHAT! They already have free healthcare.
pros @ Apr 30th 2008 6:02PM
no don't you dare joke on her free healthcare.
and i will start buying for the store tomorrow.
Truth @ Apr 30th 2008 12:54PM
lie! healthcare is not free here, there is a bracket, that once you make a certain amount of money per year, then you have to pay out the rear for healthcare, and btw! prescriptions up here in Canada are cheap yes... but surgery up here is 10x more expensive than in the USA, especially when you are above the low income bracket.
matsam @ Apr 30th 2008 11:47AM
Finally some love for Canada!
A_N_T_H_O_N_Y @ Apr 30th 2008 11:55AM
Our health care isn't free. Our system is terminally flawed.
A_N_T_H_O_N_Y @ Apr 30th 2008 11:55AM
And YAY for cheap Rock Band songs!
thinkofmeasmra @ Apr 30th 2008 12:00PM
@A_N_T_H_O_N_Y
Its a minor flaw (and still well justified).. our healthcare will always be miles above anything the US will ever have...especially if the republicans stay in power. And if McCain wins, expect the US dollar to continue its decent and another psn store price restructuring in less than a year from his inauguration lol
A_N_T_H_O_N_Y @ Apr 30th 2008 12:03PM
Nothing can justify some of our citizens having to pay 40% (or more) of their salaries to the government. It's much more than a minor flaw.
thinkofmeasmra @ Apr 30th 2008 12:20PM
Who pays that much?? How is that even possible when theres OHIP (and i think every province has their version of it). On top of OHIP, theres other coverage from corporate benefits to personal healthcare plans. I just cant see anyone paying that much unless their job doesnt provide healthcare options in which case those people in those situations are still usually put under someone else's plan (like your parents or spouse).
Popfrogs @ Apr 30th 2008 12:42PM
Come on you guys, don't turn this into some armchair politician discussion.
mccomber @ Apr 30th 2008 12:51PM
Yeah, calm down guy.
Dan Davis @ Apr 30th 2008 4:08PM
Damn, if I had a nickel for every Canadian fight I had to break up... I'd have 5 cents (worth about 2 cents across the border!)
Eh?
A_N_T_H_O_N_Y @ May 1st 2008 12:17AM
I'm talking about income tax. We obviously don't directly pay for health care, but it is paid for (along with other services like welfare, etc..) through income taxes.
Here are the Canadian tax rates (make sure you go down and look at the additional provincial rates).
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/faq/taxrates-e.html
For example, in Ontario (where I live), if your salary is over $123,000, you are charged 29% federal income tax, plus 11% provincial, which adds up to forty percent. Whereas, someone who makes under $36,000 is only charged 15% plus 6%, which adds up to 21%. Where do you think all of that money is going. We're paying all of that money for a sub-par service? Don't you think that's kind of ridiculous?
I love how "free" all of our services are.
Riley Freeman @ Apr 30th 2008 12:16PM
@ Jasius why not just buy a ps3 :D lol.
thanks sony right after i buy the damn map packs for call of duty. ah well not much of a diff anyway. im surprised theres no gta articles today.
anyway anyone else feel like its the same ol same ol? or is it just me? driving is terrible u get a sports car and all that thing does is spin around the place. the default controls are terrible. good thing they let u switch back to classic
thinkofmeasmra @ Apr 30th 2008 3:00PM
@ Riley,
Ya i pretty much feel the controls on foot suck. Well I dont mean all the controls, I just think the turning radius is garbage (pretty much everything having to do with the left analog stick) and can be sometimes super hard to line up up with something (like fighting, or something along those lines)
farfisa @ Apr 30th 2008 12:16PM
Nice! Sony was also first to drop their console prices (to par with US) when the $ CDN got strong in the Fall (not so coincidentally when I decided to buy!). The value difference between the PS3 and Xbox Elite was insane at the time.
RickyVeiga @ Apr 30th 2008 12:17PM
Dont forget europe too...like:
1.00 USD = 0.641995 EUR
And:
1.00 USD = 0.504018 GBP
So:
1 USD Not Igual To 1 EUR And Not Igual To 1 GBP
CanFan @ May 1st 2008 8:49PM
the Canadian and us store are manages by SCEA but all Europeans stores are a not the same branch.
True_Darknight @ Apr 30th 2008 12:28PM
everyone is off playing GTA4.... no time to type out articles!!!!
and DAMN IT!!!!
At those exchange rates we wil not see a price cut in the US!!!
Oh well!!
alien @ Apr 30th 2008 1:04PM
Well, the Canadian dollar has been at par for about 5-6 months now. Better late than never, I guess.
And for those idiots whining about health care, just watch Micheal Moore's Sicko. 'nuff said.
arukimikan-comments @ Apr 30th 2008 4:59PM
RickyVeiga, that was my first thought! Why pay 400€ for a PS3? That's 622$ for a 40GB console! Sony! It's ridiculous!
matahtak @ Apr 30th 2008 4:32PM
Dammit, I should get a rebate for all the damn games I bought on the PSN that were a dollar more to purchase the whole time. (I love PSN buying cause no Cdn tax heh) Now if only the retail games would adjust as well, they are still $10 dollars more than what US gamers pay.
pros @ Apr 30th 2008 6:02PM
really? I bought GTA4 at Future Shop for $59.99 in canada and they sale GTA4 in the us at Best Buy, Circuit City, GameStop, etc... at the same $59.99 we just more in tax like in QC 12%.
it's true that the PS2 Greatest hits games are $29,99 CAD and in the US they are 19,99 and that is ridiculous.:( but PS3 is the same
matahtak @ Apr 30th 2008 8:49PM
At first release they are the same price. I notice when they go on sale months after that the difference is noticeable. Regardless, I mostly buy PSN games and it's great to see that they are adjusted now.
pros @ May 1st 2008 12:32PM
i bought a new copy COD4 at Best Buy a month ago for $39.99
the dale was only in the Canadian best buy stores in the us it was still $59.99.
Andrew @ Apr 30th 2008 6:50PM
This is a good start but please spread to other stores. We are often overcharged for games here in Australia. PSN isn't too bad, the expansion pack are pricy tho. $10 for a GH3 pack instead of $7, and full retail games are over $100. GTA4 is censored and $120. Figure that out!?!
massive_98 @ Apr 30th 2008 11:27PM
In other news, Canadians like me will finally start buying more things on the PSN.
Seriously Sony, Thankyou.
