Jealous of Europe's PlayStation Day demo of Haze? Don't worry -- Free Radical's upcoming PS3 FPS game will be available to test in tomorrow's weekly PSN update. The demo, which clocks in at about 1.4GB, features two-player split-screen action and four-player online co-op. Will the game live up to its incredible hype when the masses finally have a chance to play the demo?
I understand this game isn't going to be a halo killer or anything, but this game is just what I want in a shooter! Sure it wont redefine FPS's, but that's what I like about it.
I played the eu demo, i think it plays just like halo3 and abit faster moving. I'd rent it to go through the single player, but i have to many online games i'd rather play than to invest that time in this one.
Yes we do it's godawful! The gameplay is terrible. Might just be me but I played for about 2 minutes, died then deleted it. Probably be different for other people, but I thought it was a bit rubbish.
Yep all '2 minutes' that you glanced at it, i mean 'experienced' it... at least make your comments have some backbone to them if you want people to take you with any seriousness... 2 minutes? you didn't even get past the first group of baddies... i think you just suck at games and blame it on the game... this is from my 2 minutes that I've known you via proxy on the net... lol
downloaded it last night. it was ok, the flow of movement feels good but the aiming is a pain, I felt myself having to run up close to the enemy and using the melee attack. the way the story is integrated into the game is good. overall I'd say its slightly better than run-of-the-mill but just barely.
@Adolson: You should read the book Blink, it talks about how we don't need to see much of something in order to "get it." A short amount of gameplay shows what the entire game may be like. (Emphasis on may, because, even though we are surprisingly good at judging things without looking at it much, we are still wrong sometimes.) How many people knew how great of a game GTAIV was within the first five or ten minutes of playing it? I know I did.
From what I have played, it's gone from being the "Halo killer" everyone thought it would be to a 7 or 8 out of 10 game. I wasn't too impressed by it, so I might not end up be buying the game in the end, because there are just so many other games that I have that I have to beat, let alone MGS4 is coming out in one month, and I can only play that for about a week until I spend a couple weeks in Europe.
Maybe when Haze drops to $30 or $40 I will pick it up.
You should read the book Different People Have Different Tastes, which is a book I just made up because I disagree about GTAIV. It's good, maybe great, but it's not perfect, and it's not for everyone. I played it for about 8 hours and I sold it. I'll be buying Haze. It's more my kind of game, and I learned that by playing the demo, which lasted much less than 8 hours.
what I meant by how the story is integrated into the game is that its seamless and doesn't break the mood during the mini cutscenes. It feels a lot like Halo 3 (for better or worse)
His point was - how can you tell how the story works into the game just by playing a demo? Most demos contain just enough of the game to give you an idea of gameplay, not really of the story.
It's funny, there was supposedly a lot of hype over this game, but I never really saw any of it. I mean, there were lots of articles about it being delayed, but they never really talked about what made it *good*. It was almost like meta-hype. Hype about the hype that should have been but never was.
what I said I was basing on the segment of the game that I played. I meant that in assuming that the rest of the game is told in the way that this first part of it was it is pretty cool (not very unique but good).
I don't really know where the hype for this game came from maybe because its an exclusive (for now )ps3 fps and all exclusive fps are expected to be great/special. . . i guess.
While I admit the demo was a little underwhelming, it did seem to have potential for fun. I kind of liked being the Mantel Soldier and their absurd bravado. The added effects of the Necter really had me "addicted" to using it, made for some interesting thoughts about feeling the need to use it.
I tried 4 player co-op and while it was fun, I would appreciate being able to skip the cutscene while playing with 3 other people.
I'm not going to say I'll pass on this one just yet. I'll reserve judgment until a more complete experiance is available.
I will say this, as shooters go, the DEMO was, as others have said before, slightly above average.
That being said, if you were to get a demo of the original Halo
After seeing KZ2 gameplay. Unbelievable. Absolute wow. Now Haze on the other hand... I guess it sucks so much even MS doesn't want it on their system. After being delayed so much and being "okay" from what you guys are saying, they should just start over from scratch.
I don't know what games these naysayers have been playing, or which demo they (think) they're talking about - When I played it yesterday I thought it was very good. I am not some sort of refined FPS connoiseur or experienced shooting veteran, but I have come across many games far, far worse than this.
I don't know what all the bashing is good for. This isn't even the final build of the end product, is it?
Because it isn't Halo, that's why... I agree with you, I liked it a lot, and I'm buying it. I was ready to cancel my pre-order based on the negativity, but after playing it, I'm convinced I'll dig it a lot. The controls are great, and that's my biggest thing about Free Radical - they nailed it with TimeSplitters 2 and I see that they still know what they're doing.
I too have had my interest piqued by this title, but I'm having second thoughts now by all the bashing it's received. I'm a big fan of TimeSplitters 2. Is it anyway as good as the co-op in that game? Better?
I downloaded the demo which took about 5 hours. The game is brilliant . . .i've played the demo at least 5 times alone . . .and even more with my friend. The graphics are great, the game play is fast and I can't wait to play the full thing online!
Ok so people really do need to get an Uk account :P
So i played this.. the drop-in , drop-out game was fine. Specially when i got messed up and my buds healed me all up.
Oh oh oh and I got messed up on nectar!!! hahah I started going wild and shooting everything. that was fun.
As for the aiming.. you guys have all your brain cells and fingers? aiming was fine. Took some nectar... saw the rebels.. used the zoom on right analog.. gone.
It was actually quite easy from that point. Will go back and do Single Player today.
And yes the story segments just flow right into the game. very nice presentation. May need a better GPS!!!
Overall it might be something to pass the time. But I just took the prestige plunge on CoD4.. so yeah I'm gonna be busy and i got GTA4....
And I'm guessing that with vehicles and wat not added it could be even more fun.
This game does not need to "live up to its incredible hype", it needs to counter it's anti-hype, which is evident here and everywhere. It's amazing how no one wants to give it a chance despite the reputable Developer and the innovative 4-player co-op. It's a frickin' 10 minute demo people!
I hadn't heard much bad about it. Most of the hype I heard was from this site and the Sony forums. I didn't care for the demo myself. Nothing particularly bad, just not particularly good.
I agree with Rygar, imo the game is solid but it isn't fantastic. Its average. Maybe the game is mostly geared towards multiplayer like halo. Im not bashing the game at all. its not a bad game. I personally would have preferred that they focused all their resources on the new TimeSplitters
I personally hadn't followed the game at all and know very little about the studio developing it all I'm saying is that from the demo that I played I found it simply ok. With COD4 still going strong and GTAIV up and running I simply don't feel that this game is worth my purchase. I realize this was just a short demo but if I was putting a demo out for my game I would put a kick ass portion of the game into the demo and either they didn't do that or if it was a "sweet" portion of they game it was lacking in my opinion. I loved Haze. The setting made me feel like I wanted to keep going... it made me want to shoot those MotherF'n bad guys. The colors, the pace.... it was all great.
I don't get it why people love to give it a hard time, it's fun. Maybe I'm less narrow minded & I have a broader view of "fun"... but I have to be honest, the way they made this game, it just feels right. The gameplay was fluid, everything peiced in together nicely, even the cutscenes.

Although, him saying he died in the first 2 minutes raised an eyebrow. I think I died maybe once at the end of the demo.
