PC World runs misleading PS3 ad, subsequently banned

Oops! PC World ran an advertisement about the PlayStation 3 recently that underwent court rulings to be removed and banished from our dimension because of its content. What did the UK retailer say to warrant such complete marketing annihilation? Well, they claimed that their PS3's played all PS2 titles, which simply isn't true anymore.

They tried to defend this advertisement by saying 80% of PS2 games are playable and more will be added via patches to the system, but the Advertising Standards Authority would have none of it. We're glad -- the last thing we need are people hating the PS3 not because of what it can do, but because what some retailer claimed it could do. Although our 60GB launch systems are running those PS2 games just fine!

The wording was, "and it plays your PS2 games, too." I think it's kind of silly.

Well I think my 80 gig fits more to my needs since I use more hard drive space than backwards compability, plus isn't it hard to find a PS2 game thats not compatible anyways ?

Word, 60GB launch system!

@Kevin: The whole hard drive space is less relevant now because you can stream everything from your computer. Once the PS3 has a LOT of games which require an install base...then it becomes an issue. Still, at that point we'll have external HDDs.

true but i dont want to spend more plus you payed 100 more dollar for your unit and got less and please dont start with backward compability because ps3 is next gen forget ps2 games and plus there are barely any that are not compatible

True, paying extra always sucks. I don't know too much about compatibility issues, but if you haven't had issues I guess that's pretty irrelevant as well.

I have a hard time with "forget PS2 games" though, mainly because there are a ton of PS2 titles that I still play. Certain games have replay value and won't be available for PS3, like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. As a poor college student, I play PS2 and PS3 games pretty equally, mainly because of my huge PS2 library. I'd be devastated if certain games didn't work.

i play ps2 games still like any of the final fantasies and tenchu or even soul caliber and ssx tricky ...etc their all great games and i can't see myself ever leaving them out of my collection (which is what i did with my xbox originals seeing as how they weren't backwards compatible i miss my ultimate spider-man for xbox) anyways so i'm glad for the backwards on my 60 gig plus if i ever need a bigger hdd i'd just go out and buy a new one and install it (i'm already looking into that now) and the way i see it the extra hundred bucks was worth it seeing as i got more for my ps3 then on my 360 (which including the wireless adapter was only a 100 bucks less then my ps3 thankfully i didn't buy the hd-dvd player it then would have cost $100 more and i'd still be running out of space right now stupid 20 gig hdd)
