'You will probably see' DLC for PS3 GTA IV
One of the big advantages of the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV is its exclusive DLC, coming later this Fall. Some may argue that a game as deep as GTA IV doesn't need additional content (Liberty City is a massive sprawl already!). However, it's not like PS3 owners shouldn't have the option.Speaking to videogamer.com, SCEE boss David Reeves said that we may see DLC for PS3: "Well I think you probably will see it, it's just that a deal obviously was struck between Microsoft and Take 2 to do that ... I would say to them then, you know, email Rockstar (laughs), and ask them what's coming. I think they already are, probably!"
Reeve's wishy-washy answer certainly doesn't inspire confidence in the certainty of DLC for the PS3 version of GTA IV. For now it's still a pipe dream -- one that PS3 fans are incredibly reluctant to let go of.

Don't think they'll want to, or even be able to, keep DLC away from the system the game belongs on.
green11420 @ May 7th 2008 11:24PM
Hell yeah. F*** this exclusive DLC s***. Doesn't make a bit of sense.
Or even better, they should allow some way for user mods like UT3. Just a thought!
edboy @ May 7th 2008 3:35PM
I consider the patch DLC since now I am able to play the game itself...
adolson @ May 7th 2008 3:37PM
If Rockstar hates money, they won't release DLC on PS3.

I'm not holding my breathe for DLC on GTA. I've been playing a week now and at just 35%. Plus Metal Gear is in June and i know once that hits i'll be hellah busy. I dont even get to play the DLC maps for COD4 so who needs GTA DLC?
Gaucho @ May 7th 2008 3:53PM
I don't really care about dlc for GTA4 because by the time i get bored of what is already offered in the game I'll be picking up MGS4. But of course dlc will be coming to the PS3 just no episodic dlc which is what MS paid for.
chris.westermann @ May 7th 2008 4:20PM
I thought this was one of the most ridiculous things talked about is that the Xbox 360 will be the only platform to get DLC. While Microsoft's DLC might be exclusive to them, I can easily see a set of exclusive content for the PS3.
I fully excpect not only an abundance of DLC for the PS3, but its own set exclusive content. We really don't know what GTA4 will have in store for extra content, Microsoft's exclusivity could be their own custom car or different colored jacket or something inane like that. I doubt it will go so far as to include an entirely new explorable area that the PS3 users will not get. And even if it does, I am sure there will be new areas for PS3 owners to explore.
Microsoft needed some hook into the GTA franchise to make sure people would buy it for the 360 over possibly buying a PS3 console along with GTA. That is why they probably hyped up the fact they got an exclusivity contract with Rockstar for Xbox content. Sony is probably secretly laughing their asses off while Rockstar prepares another set of content exclusive to the PS3.

So, Microsoft had to pay $50 million for their DLC and you think Sony will get exclusive DLC for free? That doesn't make any sense. All PS3 DLC will also be released on 360 unless Sony pays up...you're crazy if you think otherwise.
leiwei @ May 8th 2008 5:53AM
^ Even if PS3 gets its own set of DLC and it eventually being on Marketplace, you're still going to have to pay $ or MS points for them. Regardless if R* gives DLC to PSN for free, they're still getting money off whatever price the consumers are paying for it. Anyway, if the exclusive DLC is nothing but new missions and characters, then MS has just wasted $50 mil on 'trash'.
I'm at the part of the game helping Francis McReary and getting calls from some italian guy, and it's going to the point where Niko's just working for anyone that pays. The character-background development is sparse, and having new characters calling for help leaves little for me to connect with them. Frankly, I don't even care about the new characters but I have to do missions to unlock the next island.
So taking that into consideration, IF exclusive DLC is nothing more than new missions and characters, then heck what a waste.

mg4 is great and all but once u beat the game u will return to gta. remember gta is open and u can always do stuff mga4 once u beat the game thats it. ur playing online and thats all so gta has a lot more replay value. i beat cod once never played it again unless it was online.
i welcome the dlc it will be fun to keep playing
Gaucho @ May 7th 2008 4:18PM
I played MGS2 several times over same with the CoD4 campaign mission. a good single player game makes you want to play it again and again (maybe not every week but you know what i mean). GTA4 has that too, but i dont know what they could add that could change the game that much to warrant buying dlc.
Psy @ May 7th 2008 5:14PM
I just finished my fifth run of the CoD4 campaign last night. And why are you regarding a gaming staple as big as playing online as "that's all"?
mattchewie @ May 7th 2008 10:48PM
I disagree. I have ALL my GTA's. Well, since 3 (I could never get into the topdown titles).
To this day, I will pop them in and play them. Thats what I love about the GTA games, each has some pretty awesome replay factor. Maybe not now, but down the road, its on.
True_Darknight @ May 7th 2008 4:26PM
I can truly say that I will not have enough time to play the DLC. Unless ofc it has some type of new multiplayer.
Too many games from here til feb 2009 to worry about!
Kevin Adder Snake @ May 7th 2008 4:56PM
I just don't know about DLC. It is like eating at a all you can eat buffet, and then 5 mins later, grabbing a burger. Just overindulgence. GTA 4 has a huge single player mode and online mutliplayer. That should be enough for some but we live in America, never satisfied and always wanting more.
Efeez1986 @ May 8th 2008 12:28AM
That's the best comment i've seen. DLC is bullshit for the most part. "A guys, pay $60 dollars for our game then pay an extra $15 dollars later on for this content we left out of the game purposely to make extra money". The only DLC i can agree with is maps for online shooters, other than that i don't care about DLC.
ryan @ May 7th 2008 5:22PM
i own the 360 version and don't really care about the dlc. the achievements, as stupid as it sounds, are really fun to compete with your friends. they have cool names too.
Riley Freeman @ May 8th 2008 12:29AM
because THATS ALL. some of u enjoy redoing the same stuff over and over. i dont so i welcome their downloadable content. if after u beat mg4 u want to replay the campaign over and over thats fine. im saying im sure the majority of people would like something new.
DLC is always welcome. i paid the 12$ for COD4 played it for the weekend and now the game is in its case. if i feel like going back to it one day i have it if not then its 12$ i make more than double that an hour so i can spare it. GTA ill buy it regardless of when it comes out.
personally i sent an email to ps3fanboy asking them to write an article asking if this is their climax. personally i dont see them releasing or surpassing another gta on current platform. thats why i think take 2 is getting ahead of themselves in their value. yes gta is going to sell alot of units but after that their stock will drop back down. my honest opinion
adevilnamedbuena @ May 7th 2008 5:36PM
If you want DLC on GTA IV, buy an Xbox 360!
Zim @ May 7th 2008 8:21PM
What is the exact wording of the microsoft contract for exclusive content ? As I think the term exclusive content can be misleading. It dosent nessesary mean that the PS£ wont get some sort of downloadable stuff.
Plus it would be crazy to no release any on the PS3 as xbox only got 55% of the market share for its version of the game compared to PS3 45%. Not forgetting there is more xboxes out theri compared to PS3.
JaseH @ May 8th 2008 12:28AM
The DLC in reality, can be a great addition... or it can be the worst ever FLOP to hit gaming in the last 5 years. It's a 50/50 chance.
People are getting excited, about something they know nothing about. The DLC was never explained, I'm not talking about "episodic"... I'm talking about WHAT it's going to include.
Too many people are steering away from the "worst case scenario" here... and they are believing what the developers WANT people to believe.
You see... Microsoft, know how to strike a deal. They also like to HYPE the shit out of anything. Some hyped exclusive games do well, some don't. I just don't see how DLC can reach this level of achievement. Halo has been hyped dramatically, so much so that Microsoft has spent so much money into the advertising & while the game has been deemed over-hyped, and by over-hyped I mean it didn't reach all of the fans expectations... the multiplayer, albeit the same experience from the last two games, was pretty much the only MAJOR advantage when it came to appreciation.
Do you think Microsoft cared?... no. Just like any multi-billion dollar company, they don't. The hype has gotten you excited, you bought the game, and now, whether you're drooling over it or not, matters none. They have you're money & they're happy.
I can already see people blindly using this "DLC" as some sort of win, and yet, the outcome is unpredictable. People shouldn't have to put one foot on one side, and one on the other. It's a guessing game, and by a 50% chance, all may look like fools in the end.
Anyways that's just my 2 cents. In my opinion, I'm not falling for it, and I've already reserved enough money for full games... DLC to an extent of a few extra missions, doesn't deserve my cash. I'm already stoked with what I've got already to care.

It's simple.
GTA is bigger now then both the 360 and PS3. Therefore DLC for both is a did cert. All about money in the bank.
schnitz76 @ May 8th 2008 9:40AM
I haven't read too much on all this DLC for GTA IV, but is it possible that the only reason they are giving it up to Xbox360 users is because they don't need to give it as downloads to PS3 owners? Maybe the DLC wouldn't fit on a DVD so it has to be DLC? I may be way off base here, but it was just a thought that occurred to me.
