Man kills neighbor over missing PS3

Being a protective console owner is one thing, but taking obsessive love for one's system to violent ends is a whole other ballpark. Take the story of Edward Keith Stoddard Jr. who was arrested last night in Dade City for murdering his neighbor over a missing PlayStation 3. He's accused of murdering neighbor Douglas F. Abrams when the two were arguing over the PS3 in question on April 24.

It's such a sad thing to hear that someone had to die over something so trivial. Sure, most of us love our systems, but not enough to kill for it. It's not clear whether the PS3 was the only reason for the murder, but even if it wasn't, it wouldn't matter. The story would end the same -- someone's dead, the other's in jail, and the PS3 still missing.

I'd say it's not the 40gb. Without backwards compatibility, it's just not worth murdering over.

Well, I got my XBox 360 Elite, Wii and 60GB PS3 stolen from my apartment last fall. Now if I find the little bastard that did break in and steal them, you damn well know I'll kill him.

I think blaming this on videogames is just...stupid...it's not just the videogames..it's this psychotic society we are living right now..maybe it's just me but damn everyone just seem more tense right now and i blame it on trying to survive...everything is expensive as hell, people just can't keep up with that, hell i don't even want to think how milk or chicken will cost when i start to work and live by my own, i am 17 years old at the moment.

i have to admit that it should make you wonder if video games and excessive violence have a connection, not as in video games tells us its ok to kill people but if it sometimes makes us forget how to properly express anger and that in real life there is no reset buttons.

yea even though GTAIV wasnt even out when the PS3 was allegedly stolen (article says April 24, game released April 29). hell he probably did him in cause he missed the GTAIV launch.

This PS3 in this story is simply a substitute for $400-500. It's pretty common for people to be killed over less.

This has less to do with video games and more to do with someone having over half a grand worth of electronic equipment stolen, especially if he lost his games to. If this was a $600 home theater sound system or a Blu-Ray recorder or something, there wouldn't be any controversial "violent video game" innuendo about the whole thing.

I would totally kill someone if they stole a ps3 from me, cause ps3 sucks and whoever actually took the risk to steal a ps3 to get one is dumb and needs to be wiped from the gene-pool. I'd be helping out the human race.

It's good to see that PS3Fanboy is jumping on-board with the mainstream media and putting the focus on the PS3. Maybe Jack Thompson is on the Board of Directors of the site now? /sarcasm

I would've thought videogames gets enough bad press without a site with "fanboy" in its name jumping in on the bashing.
