It was a sad day indeed for Europeans when Konami announced the
American Limited Edition of
Metal Gear Solid 4. We heard your cries of "where's ours?" as you drooled over the
image gallery. Well, it now seems that Europe
will be getting a
Limited Edition version, courtesy of Play.com (though it may be exclusive to other retailers elsewhere in Europe). The £80 LE version of the game (ouch) will feature the same extras as the American version: a making-of Blu-ray and a soundtrack CD. Not only that, but it will also include a 6" tall Old Snake action figure.
There are no images of the European Limited Edition yet, but we've attempted to contact Konami PR in case there are any floating about. At eighty quid, the LE is definitely on the pricey side, but we're certain there are a fair number of you who will grab it at that price. We've already put in our preorder, anyway.

Just cancelled the pre-order with Game and got mine ordered from play.com!
June 12 can't come quick enough!
Livi70590 @ May 8th 2008 3:46PM
Copy + Paste. (Same here)
Gaucho @ May 8th 2008 10:41AM
Will the American version come the 6" figure too?
KrixBOI @ May 8th 2008 11:40AM
Important Note! We can only ship this product to United Kingdom addresses.
Noooo, I live in Norway!
kingalekz @ May 8th 2008 1:31PM
I'm in germany.
I think it would pretty much suck if only UK residents would get the privilege to purchase the limited edition :(
Chris @ May 8th 2008 1:59PM
Surely this is only the first of many Euro announcements. Maybe German/Norwegian sites somewhere have already posted one too. I think the reason is it's exclusive to certain shops in certain countries, which wouldn't mean much if people could import it from other countries.
Mike E. @ May 8th 2008 12:30PM
Well that sucks. Not only does Gamestop no longer mention anything about the art book they were offering before, but now we don't even get the action figure that Europe gets!
Popfrogs @ May 8th 2008 12:50PM
Wait, what? If there's no artbook I'm switching my preorder away from the LE. I gotta double check this...
Hyams @ May 8th 2008 10:50AM
£80? Ahahahaha, no.
Looks like I'll be sticking with the standard edition.
Chris @ May 8th 2008 10:51AM
£80?!
I'd happily pay about £25 for the soundtrack and the snake figure (I don't even know what it looks like) which means I'd be paying £20 extra just for the documentary I'd never watch and the special packaging. I have ordered the standard version (from Amazon.co.uk at £35) and will not be cancelling it with that price.
matt @ May 8th 2008 10:54AM
Hmmmm, £80 is just too much. I can (don't squeal on me) just find the soundtrack for free afterwards, i don't care about a making of and an action figure (which i do want) just isn't worth £40. Now, if all that came with an artbook and special case, then yes, i would purchase that in a heartbeat. But as is, no go.
Popfrogs @ May 8th 2008 11:24AM
Oh, so you want the US LE version then. We get the artbook, documentary and soundtrack but no figurine.
I really wish I would have collected the figurines when MGS2 dropped. Those things were all over the place and it doesn't look like Konami is releasing them for MGS4.
Nathan @ May 8th 2008 11:06AM
£80!! That's ridiculous. I got a pre-order of the standard edition for £35 from Amazon (the last one was GTA IV delivered on release day with free shipping). And for what, a 6" snake (lame), a documentary that will be on youtube after a minute, and a soundtrack (lame).
LEON TUTSSEL @ May 8th 2008 11:28AM
£80 is pretty steep but hey ho im a massive fan of the game everyone has never failed to impress me, £80 but the extra stuff will be limited edition making it collectable meaning ebay baby!! get my money back, or if i like it that much im sure i will keep it, i said i was gonna sell all the stuff from my gta goodie bag but i like it all too much!!
MJ @ May 8th 2008 12:43PM
And also just pre-ordered this! The MGS Bluetooth headset in the news a while ago.
It's real, and exclusive to game (where I cancelled my orig order lol)

For those not willing to dish out the ridiculous 80 pounds, but still want something special for 40 pounds (and no, that Bluetooth headset does not count, and it's a rip off as well), HMV.com has an exclusive sleeve for MGS4. I got the same deal with MGS3 back in the day. The best part is they'll deliver anywhere in the world and in good time too, for a very reasonable price (I got GTA4 SE with only 4.50 for shipping internationally, got it within a week, was very pleased).
Since I'm such a fanboy, I already ordered the HMV version but I'm hoping to convince my parents to let me borrow their credit card for the Play.com version (shipping is going to be a major problem though).
AshStampede @ May 8th 2008 5:35PM
down to all speacial, limited, collector editions of games. never worth the money.
PS4EVER @ May 8th 2008 6:38PM
just ordered mine both the SE and headset , cant believe it.... cost alot , now ill have to eat cheese sanni and marmite for the next month lol , but im a big fan
Kurt @ May 9th 2008 5:37AM
New Zealand had the MGS4 LE listed for about a month before both GPStore and EB pulled it, because all the retail stores got an e-mail from Atari NZ (MGS4 supplier) that they couldn't secure enough stock. Thank God that everyone who'd preordered up to that point will get the LE afterall though ^^
