We're glad that SCEA
finally confirmed the availability of Skype-compatible PSP headsets at retailers today. When we first discovered the peripheral, it was supposed to release
last month for $20. Well, looks like things have changed. The peripheral is now available at a MSRP of $30 at your favorite retailer. We checked
amazon.com,
buy.com, and
GameStop -- and it appears that buy.com is still your best bet.
The new headset offers stereo sound, an adjustable microphone, and a lightweight design with soft ear cushions. It's the easiest way to get Skype working on your PSP. For more information on how to use the VoIP service,
check out our guide.

Went to Best Buy to look for it and couldn't find it. Sold out online there too. Suprised by it, didn't think it would be hard to find in the stores.

whats the difference between this and the headset that came out with SOCOM?

Yeah, i'm looking at the pic, and it looks just like my mic that i've used for Syphon Filter? What gives? are they just ripping people off?

Before, you needed to buy the headphones with PSP slim-compatible remote, and then the headset separately totaling to about $45 bucks (give or take).
This is for people want the Headset+remote in one package (and for cheaper, too).

Oh, i'd also like to point out that this is a picture that we'd never see in real life:

Thanks Sony for making us think girls like this are gonna bust out a PSP from their pocketbooks...

Haha, it's so true. I've seen very few PSPs at all "in the wild". On my commute to work (on the Boston subway), the few I've seen were in the hands of late 20's / early 30's guys like me.

My brother bought at Circuit City 2 months ago, but it came on a blue box with a white background. No Skype logo on it. It only said for PSP-2000

Nice job on the photoshop, but I thought the chick was scary enough when she didn't have fangs...

i thought a camera will come with it. Skype offers video conferencing. What's the point of having another set of headphones and mic if there's no camera?
lonesomefolly @ May 9th 2008 1:34AM
this headphone set comes with the psp remote. japan did get a camera + microphone gadget to use with skype way cooler than this.

Wait - does this come with a BLACK remote or a WHITE remote? I have a black PSP-2000 and hate the white remote.
The original pictures on Amazon (etc) showed this set coming with a BLACK remote (as it should), but now on Playstation.blog it's showing it with a white remote.
I don't care about the headset itself - I pre-ordered from Amazon specifically to get my hands on the black remote. It just shipped from Amazon yesterday, so it's too late for me to cancel.
If I had known this, I would have ordered the stand-alone black remote which is now available in Asia from Sony.
Can anyone confirm the actual color of the remote coming with the US headsets?
(I notice that the picture of the girl using the headset you guys posted the link to hides the remote from view, so no hint there....)
