Mirror's Edge team praises tilt controls, Cell architecture
Sean Decker, general manager of Battlefield developer DICE, spoke to VideoGamer.com about their upcoming Mirror's Edge. The first-person platforming/action game made its debut at PlayStation Day, which led some to believe the title was a PS3-exclusive. It's not, but the team is promising to make the most out of the PS3's unique architecture. For example, the team plans on utilizing tilt controls: "The great thing about it is that there's a lot of little things like, Faith there when she's walking like this (points to Mirror's Edge trailer showing Faith tightrope-walking across a beam), Sixaxis controls, super easy to implement and say, OK well just balance it and then you've got it there, as opposed to teaching a player to say, oh let's push this button or that button."
"The other thing is the Cell really allows us to push the resolution of our textures much higher and we've taken full advantage of that as well. So there's a lot of little quirks to it that we really like and our engineers love as well as our designers." However, Decker wouldn't go so far as saying the PS3 version is superior to the Xbox 360 version -- they're simply "different."

OMG how many times do i have to say it Your a Messenger for some organization. Point of the game Get the package delivered Or Die Trying. U get to use guns but it effect gameplay (Weight, cant grab edges or w.e use your imagination.) Hopefully it will have multi-player kuz that would Rock face! Free_running across buildings shootin ppl with a sniper then sliding down the side of a skyscraper to cover.
True_Darknight @ May 9th 2008 3:39PM
Why are they all afraid to say that is more feature rich and more powerful than the failbox? M$ has goons or something?
WTangoFoxtrot @ May 9th 2008 4:04PM
because they dont want to provide fuel to PSlaves like yourselves !
anyways looks like a unique and promising game, have they said anything about the expected release date ?
DrunkRaba @ May 9th 2008 6:04PM
goons? probably, that was part of their anti-trust case for their business practice. I wouldn't doubt they still use that practice.
pavs @ May 9th 2008 4:11PM
its business man. You dont want to say that one version is better than the other, especially if its the 360, because thats at least 60% of the games sales. So you praise PS3 to makes sonyboys happy and you say that the "other" has its own advantages not to upset xbox owners.

Is Dice busy, or what? When is this game coming out? Looks cool, so I'm interested. You've gotta admit it looks kinda Portal-ish, from the lead character being a female, fps puzzle/platformer game, minimalist art direction, etc.
xrich @ May 9th 2008 4:15PM
im not convinced on this game yet...i really like the graphic style but ive never seen a 1P platform game work well...might make more sense to make this a 3P game...i guess we'll have to wait for a demo to really see how well controls will work...
tastesfruity @ May 9th 2008 4:56PM
what nice people
True_Darknight @ May 9th 2008 5:34PM
YET they always talked about how the games looked better on the original Xbox and we all know that PS2 was the supreme machine.
I'm telling ya it has to do with M$ being all bitchy about it
Popfrogs @ May 9th 2008 7:09PM
Watch the demo footage again. You'll notice that they use the color red all over the place and you make a connection with it. Your shoes are red, the pipe she runs on is red, there's a red door and 2 red pipes coming out of the building she jumps towards...
I can see this working out well for the player. In a game where they let you go anywhere, it's nice to have clear direction sometimes.

The screen's dont do it justice. Just D/L the HD trailer from the (euro) PS store. I was plesantly suprised, looks really interesting. Dunno what it is cant quite put my finger on it, but this game/trailer looks pritty damm cool. I think its the mix of art direction (the clean and shiny futurestic look) and music working together, plus the interesting combat. Definatly a game im keeping any eye on. Only thing that worries me is the EA logo at the beginning :S We know how EA have been treating PS3 games, hope they dont screw another one up, though the comments above by Dice are good to know and comforting. Cant wait for more information!

This is the best idea for a game ever parkour (freerunning) lookit up on youtube if you are a noob a dont know what it is. Combined with guns, CQC, and AmAZING visuals Lets just hope this has multiplayer ppl!!!
Laurens Holst @ May 10th 2008 7:56AM
The game looks really really interesting, but the first person view puts me off… hopefully there is a third person mode in the final game, or maybe I’ll just have to get used to it.
Jamesology @ May 11th 2008 3:30AM
I bet you anything something will go wrong with the PS3 version. Though I will be buying this for PS3. I haven't touch my 360 in a while. Saving it for GoW2, OMG I can't wait. Then MGS for PS3. DAM it's a good year.
JaseH @ May 11th 2008 9:50AM
"I bet you anything something will go wrong with the PS3 version."
I bet you it won't :)
They sound very confident. It's hard not to notice.

These devs always sound confident. Then at the last minute everything falls apart lol. Pls. don't take as an insult towards the PS3, I am getting this for PS3 as I mentioned on my first post.
ihatebioshock @ May 12th 2008 2:13AM
Be a little wary. when a developer comes out boasting about features on PS3 it has in the past meant they are trying to cover up for something in other areas (witness the GTAIV lower res PS3 version yet loads of 'we love the PS3's look' from the devs before release).
I think positive PR before a launch keeps focus on those things (sixaxis, hires textures etc) and less on the frame rate and screen resolution.
I'm not saying that's definitely what's going on here but it has in the past, and I only own a PS3 now after my 3 360 died and I had enough. I now detest 360 purely because of it's failure rate so i'm not some fanboy pretending to like the PS3.
I hope this game does deliver, it's pretty original and looks like nothing else out and I welcome that.. .hope they can pull it off and keep it above 30FPS and at least full 720p (PS3).
Don't care about the 360 version as i've long given up on that piece of crap hardware.
CosmicNeurotica @ May 12th 2008 3:14AM
it's called send your 360 back and get a brand new one *gasp* for FREE.
The hardware must not be that bad if almost every single video game developer chooses to make their games for it. Time to stop kidding yourself friend. You can't tell me there's not one time that hasnt gone by that youve regreted your purchase and wished you still had your 360 because there's been some games you want since you got rid of it. Unless of course you don't play games and only like to watch HD movies
Jamesology @ May 12th 2008 5:08AM
I understand ihatebioshock when he is sick of the hardware. Though I play with my PS3 more, I still love my 360; well maybe b/c I have not had any problems with it at all (2 years of excellence).
My Wii on the other hand I'm sick of. I gave up on that piece of junk and gave it to my GF. The Wii is a fad and I fell for it too. No games to my interest except Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports, the only games I found actually different from the GC and Addictinggames.com. Just like the Motorola RAZR, dumb but hot.
ihatebioshock @ May 12th 2008 9:56AM
Really mr know it all? Do you know what an E74 error is? Do you know what an ana/scalar chip fault is? Do you know this is a fairly common fault (not as common as general red ring of death) but is not covered FOR FREE by Microsoft?
Do you know the chances of getting a 'brand new one' are extremely slim?
Do you know the chances of getting your own (well cared for) system is also hit or miss? You can (as I did) actually get someone elses 2nd hand refurb back IN WORSE CONDITION than the one you sent (my first repair came back with scratches on the chrome part and a noiser drive).
Do you know you are talking out of your ass?
Do you know I don't give a damn about your BS?
Do you know I got fed up of continually ringing up/tracking/sending back consoles and the 'fear' of investing money in games for said console when it apparently can not be 'fixed' completely.
Do you know that since I bought a PS3 as an alternative i've not actually worried about breakdowns and just got on and enjoyed playing the game?
no. So shut up.
thanks
ihatebioshock @ May 12th 2008 9:56AM
Oh and about the games thing, you know aside from PGR4 I've actually found that the only games I'm interested in on the 360 now (that are not also on the PS3) are actually ON THE PC or COMING TO THE PC, I have a very fast PC. My last 'XBox 360 games' that I played on the PC looked better and ran faster, there are at least 4 games I would have bought a 360 for but they showed up or will be showing up on the PC. FACT!
As for the PS3 - it's exclusives are pretty much locked the that system, no MGS4 for PC, no GT5 for PC etc... that is why I bought a PS3.
And trust me, if the 360 was as well built as a PS3 I would own that TOO because I don't blank out any system based on some 'blind faith' towards a company, but the fact was I got sick and tired of those lights flashing, the NOISE of the damn system and the complete lack of care from MS (the replacement 'cover up' is BS - they knew they would fail when they launched but took us early adopters for mugs).
I suggest you stop being so faitful to a brand and look around at the big picture. The 360 is a fucking awful piece of hardware, easily the least reliable console ever. I hope yours dies this week and you experience what many others have, you want to keep throwing money at a company like that then go ahead... mug.

This game did not drag me in.
Sounds boring, looks boring, but i'll wait til it comes out, not excited to see. I still have a lot of games on my list to buy.
