If a Blu-ray movie is a re-release, it should be $9.95, period. end of story. Asking $30 - $40 for a movie that you didn't buy before on DVD is one of the key reasons why Blu-ray is not selling better then it should.
Secondly, stop releasing old movie on Blu-ray. Again if you didn't buy it on DVD then why would you want it on Blu-ray?
Also the quality of most re-released Blu-ray titles leave a lot to be desired for. Hollywood is not taking the time to do a good decent transfer of film to HD, and I think in a lot of cases your just getting the original DVD upscaled to HD.
Hollywood is the only reason why Blu-ray is not taking off. It has nothing to do with the technology, its just greedy movie tycoons thinking they could profiteer on early-adopter's snapping up every Blu-ray title release. But they seem slow to realize that the early-adopter phase of Blu-ray is over and now people are holding out on buying Blu-ray because they don't want to spend more then $9.95 for a movie, especially one that came out 10 years ago.

Are you never not on a Blu Ray related article complaining about Blu Ray?? Just saying because I've noticed you commenting negatively in every Blu article on this site... For the people that don't believe me, just check his posting history... Give it a rest dude, we get it, you aren't happy and feeling BLU :(
Glen @ May 12th 2008 4:53PM
Wha! The Rock! And Goodfellas! For the price of one? I don't know if I'll be able to pass this one up. I've been wanting to start bolstering my Blu-Ray collection, but you don't get paid to go to college...

Yeah. The price of these is sometimes a bit ridiculous. Especially on older stuff!
uh-oh polio @ May 12th 2008 4:56PM
i never really got the old movies on bluray.. does it really make it look any better?
Watcher @ May 12th 2008 5:08PM
Nope! Avoid old movies rehashed into Blu-ray formats if they were already released on Dvd. Unless they are re-mastered from the ground up (and it should state this on the package), you're just getting a dubbed dvd version with no visual enhancements slapped on the blu-ray format. If a movie hits the bu-ray format along side it's DVD counterpart as a new release, then it's worth looking into.
Spaz @ May 12th 2008 5:49PM
I have to politely disagree with the above comment. Some of the biggest leaps in visual clarity I've seen have been in older catalog titles. Blazing Saddles and Trading Places come to mind - they just look better than ever in Blu-ray. Color pallette is greatly improved especially.
Not every catalog re-release is a knockout (Halloween comes to mind) but in general I've been pretty impressed with how much of an improvement Blu-ray can make on older titles. Rent a few from Netflix and decide for yourself!
never$$hort @ May 12th 2008 7:33PM
Spaz is right.. older movies look great!! Not all but I would say 90% of them do. I would know this too, as I own 175 Blu Rays.
mccomber @ May 12th 2008 11:15PM
Agree with the other two, at least in regards to more recent-older releases. There were a few movies released at first that were pretty poor transfers (Full Metal Jacket for one) that were re-released and look much better, and generally the titles released lately, old catalog or new, look great on Blu.

i still have to get no country for sure and maybe i am legend
Michael K. @ May 12th 2008 5:46PM
its not really a buy two for the price of one deal, its 2 for $30 but if you look at their normal prices they're all $20 or less each. not that its a bad deal, just clarifying
bricklayer @ May 13th 2008 4:22AM
I'd like to add (hopefully not too late) that some of these titles (Total Recall and Stargate to name two) are only about $12 on Amazon, so two for $30 may not be as good a deal as it seems. It may be worthwile to shop around if you want to save a couple bucks. Of course, some of these titles are more expensive on Amazon. Who knows what they're going for on other sites?
never$$hort @ May 12th 2008 7:27PM

Just picked up my first two Blu-Ray movies thanks to this deal: Blade Runner and Appleseed. I plan on going by this weekend (if I have the funds) to grab Pan's Labyrinth. : crosses fingers:
Bryan Law @ May 12th 2008 10:08PM
lol, just got those exact two movies. Pretty nice since it's the 5-disc Blade Runner set, no?
Zeromus @ May 12th 2008 9:26PM
Does everyone know that Fred Meyer is also doing this deal? I just picked up Kung-Fu Hustle and House of Flying Daggers.
Bryan Law @ May 12th 2008 10:05PM
Suhweet! Just picked up Blade Runner Collector's Edition and Appleseed Ex Machina for the price I was just about to pay for BR alone...
Thanks for the post PS3F!
Patrick @ May 13th 2008 1:19AM
What sucks is that you can't buy more than two discs at this price. Two discs cost $30, but two more will set you back $40 more, rather than $30.
