Sony platforms dominate latest EA sales figures [updated]
According to Electronic Arts' Q4 2008 fiscal report, all of Sony's current platforms (PS3, PS2, PSP) dominated EA's game sales across the three month period. The PS2 did the best out of the lot and accounted for $166 million Sony also reigned supreme in the portable arena with the PSP accounting for $69 million. This gave the PSP a boost taking 47 percent of total EA portable software for Q4 2008. Mobile phones surprisingly beat out the Nintendo DS with 28 and 25 percent shares respectively.
It's great to hear that Sony's platforms are strong systems for software sales. On the other hand, it's not so grand to think that this sales push contributes funds for EA's obsessiveness to buyout Take-Two. Switching topics, this news also makes it all so apparent why EA's Peter Moore showed so much concern over PS3 related products recently.
Update: The numbers reflected in this article are not about units sold but rather they're about revenue generated. We apologize for any confusion. Our source, GamesIndustry.biz, initially reported these number as unit sold.

Funny how publishers are getting SO BIG that we can talk about profit shares specific to just those publishers and actually have it mean something.

I bet Valve feels pretty freaken' stupid right now... Lol
EA, bring on the Road Rash!!!

Amen, brother.
Although I have great respect for the folks at Valve, as they put out stellar product, Doug Newell's lack of respect for the PS3 is just flat out unprofessional.
The guy worked and made huge bank at Microsoft for 13 years, we get it. You like and are very comfortable with the PC architecture. You are monetarily threatened by Sony's architecture, hence the backlash by you. We get it.

Wow, maybe now EA will take a "develop on ps3, port to 30 approach" They now have the numbers not to argue. I swear, if madden is 30fps again I don't know what I'm gonna do.
Kurt @ May 13th 2008 9:55PM
That would be a very smart move for EA, then we can all sit back and LOL when the Xbots go up-in-arms about how their versions of games aren't as good ^^

the games are always more equal when they develop on PS3 first. i dont understand why devs dont do it now. Burnout Paradise turned out great from what i hear (first EA game ported to 360 from PS3).

Seems the folks at Sony know how to manage their brands....apparently their strategy is slowly coming together....not that I didn't think it would. KEEP IT UP SONY!! Can we get in-game XMB and HOME now please....please!?!??!

Madden is supposed to be 60fps this year.
massive_98 @ May 13th 2008 10:09PM
This is incredible considering the last time I heard about EA and PS3 sales, it was only to the tune of 30 million. Also amazing considering the PS3 owners who blindly hate EA.
anthonyjh @ May 13th 2008 10:51PM
I hate Ea and my vision is 20/20.

are u serious ps3 sold 152mil vs 360 selling 128mil? that is hard to believe considering the install base difference. or maybe im just not reading it correctly. anyhow, congrats to sony for being responsible for more than half of the behemoth's sales.
leiwei @ May 14th 2008 2:15AM
well you have to think for a moment, even though install base is different, this is purchases of EA games. Perhaps there're just more EA games being bought by PS3 owners. 360 owners also purchase EA games, but at the same time there're also games distributed by other publishers.
Erik @ May 14th 2008 3:54AM
Serioulsy!?
What is the total PS3 sales world wide, 12 mil?
So every PS3 owner has bought 12-15 EA games, I find that hard to believe! Personally I have bought 3 EA games.
ErikS @ May 14th 2008 5:13AM
As I suspected. It is $152 million not 152 million units. Edit the post please.
Draco @ May 14th 2008 8:52AM
* Please note, this was initially reported as units sold, not revenue generated. GamesIndustry.biz apologises for any confusion caused.

EA - SUCKS, Maybe they'll step up & start to make some decent games.
OddyOh @ May 14th 2008 8:16AM
Q4 2008? EA must have a time machine...
RC @ May 14th 2008 8:36AM
Q4 08 ends May 08, We are now starting Q1 09
chris.westermann @ May 14th 2008 11:28AM
Wow, now imagine if EA actually tried to create good PS3 titles, imagine how much more they would sell.
