In preparation of
Metal Gear Solid 4's release, Konami has unleashed a Kojima classic onto the PSN. No, not the original
Metal Gear Solid (that's already available in Japan!). It's
Policenauts. This is one of Kojima's earlier works: a graphic adventure game, similar to Kojima's
Snatcher. Through its point and click interface, players take control of a cryogenically frozen Jonathan Ingram, who wakes up in the year 2040. His estranged wife asks for his help in finding her missing second husband. After her murder, Jonathan has no choice but to use the clues provided to him and go on a journey through space to fulfill his dead wife's wish.
Kojima's
Policenauts is joined by another PS1 title,
Nectaris, in today's PSN update.

Its funny, I saw a poster for this game just the other day when I was playing through MGS1. I had no idea what it was though.

Just when I thought Konami had forgotten this one... It's a shame it never got translated into English, although the good people down at Junker HQ have a promising translating process going on at the moment.
Here's hoping Konami has big plans for taking Policenauts to American and European grounds! (Snatcher would also do fine.)

I hope this come to the US PSN store. This along with Snatcher that would be awesome. To think I once had a used copy of Snatcher for the Sega CD on my hands (they were selling it for 5 bucks) and my brother and I ended up buying Iron Helix!!! What is Iron Helix you might ask...well Iron Helix is an ultra-mega crappy Sega CD game which I could only play for like 5 minutes since it sucked so much.
Why did we buy Iron Helix? Well we were young and naive... heck we even had the Sega CD (and later the 32x! 3d graphics on my Genesis? Bring it on!!!). We thought Iron Helix's graphics looked awesome!! They had real people in it!! LOL...oh man we certainly got fooled.
The next day we went to the store looking for Snatcher and it wasn't there. Since that day I've wanted to play the game so now that I know about videogames I would love for those two games to come to the PSN!

I certainly hope that Policenauts makes it to the PSN store...I've been wanting to play that since the SEGA cd console add-on, but never got my hands on a copy of the game.

OK, I'm a little confused... this posting makes it sound like it's already out for SCEA. But people are talking about localizing and whatnot... so what's, uh, the deal?
matthew_neitzer @ May 14th 2008 4:01PM
"Policenauts storms -->Japanese

See... right there.
These are the kind of games that could help make PSN shine.
Games that are hard to get, or were never made available.
I'm thinking of gems like Vib Ribbon, Suikoden II, etc. etc.
The PSN has so much underutilized potential for re-releasing games that are of interest to the hardcore gamers market, and time and time again, we are ignored.
I really hope they make a concerted effort to bring old gems like this here.
Oh, by the way, don't get your hopes up for this making it stateside. (as translation would be needed)

"Games that are hard to get, or were never made available."
Agreed! I'd love to see some Sega Saturn games released on the PSN (sure ... it's about a 0.002% chance .. but hey). Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dark Savior (two of which I already have, but since my Saturn's broken ...

*Hugs copy of Policenauts for the PSX*

Just a heads up, an unofficial translation of Policenauts is in development over at JUNKER HQ. I'm not sure when it will be released, but it'll be ready when it's done. The patch itself has been worked on for several years now and will be for the PSX version of the game.
