Looks like your brain isn't working either. In game XMB isn't out, quit trying to fool people.
anthonyjh @ May 15th 2008 2:10AM
I hate hearing about it every time a new update pops up, so I thought I would get the stupidity out of the way.
Consolcwby @ May 15th 2008 12:44AM
I'll download this update as soon as I get out of work! My AC/DC bd come from netflix today, and I need my concert fix! =D

Jeez, are there really people like you out there? It's so freaking easy to avoid this crash, and you clearly have access to the internet. did you think you might want to google this problem and see how to fix it? Maybe call sony?
I'll help you out anyway, since I'm such a nice little person.
Turn off your internet for a while. That's it.
Once you've saved further into the game, turn it back on. If you're having the well-publicized problem, this will fix it. It's pretty damn painless, and I've had my internet back on since trying this and have had no problems (and forums verify I'm not alone).
Have fun with the game! I'm shocked anyone would be willing to tolerate it not working for this long. It's so unbelievable to me. Literally incredible.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ May 15th 2008 2:51AM
come on Jimbo, if he fixed the problem, then what would he complain about?
mine works fine on my 60GB PS3.
DeadPlasmaCell @ May 15th 2008 2:52AM
@ Jimbo
Yes God forbid the guy expect his game to actually work correctly without having to do any sort of work around.. Regardless of how trivial it is.
Mikemyerz666 @ May 15th 2008 4:15AM
i dont think shutting off your internet for a while will work for everyone, pud boy.
android @ May 15th 2008 1:28AM
good, now get the update that lets me dl ps2 games from the psn store
Mike @ May 15th 2008 1:34AM
ive never even heard of an update like that?? Wtf r u talking about?
jitty @ May 15th 2008 1:55AM
Sorry Jimbo, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who've tried that and still can't get GTA IV to work. Do you have a launch PS3? Either that or there are A LOT of dumb PS3 owners...
Kenny @ May 15th 2008 2:06AM
by problem with gta4, people mean getting disconnected every game entered. i got rid of that problem by updating my firmware of my router. i don't know if that will help everyone but night as well throw that out there.
mcscan @ May 15th 2008 3:25AM
gtaiv busted my disk drive. just got my coffin today to send it in. i'm annoyed, i just want to crash michelle through the windshield into the ocean. is that so much to ask?
proArchy @ May 15th 2008 2:28PM
ITS
proArchy @ May 15th 2008 2:30PM
its much easier to do on a bike. then you get to fly together! next time you have a date in gta pick up a hooker on the way, and watch as your date yanks her out of the car like a sack of meat!
sibbor @ May 15th 2008 4:27AM
Sony have already told us in-game COMMUNICATION (not entire XMB) will be able due out in summer, in firmware 2.40. Firmware 2.35 takes us closer... be satisfied they take their time to improve our gaming experience with higher stability ;)
If they could only release a complete release log and/or tell us which games is affected - and in what circumstances...
Lars @ May 15th 2008 3:24PM
Hopefully with 2.4 they'll make the only thing that I want xmb access for available...
I don't care about pausing my game to watch movies or whatever. I don't even really care about the friends list, messaging, etc. (though that could be handy I guess) Just let me change my freakin voice input/output without exiting a game!
dann @ May 15th 2008 4:56AM
how weird is that, an update without a changelog
Pavel @ May 15th 2008 5:11AM
I'm worried why they even don't give us an option to download it by PC as before? PSN is slower, grrrr
Popfrogs @ May 15th 2008 6:15PM
They usually do but in general it's 2 days late.
Ninjakamster (PSN: Chin-Poh) @ May 15th 2008 9:14AM
Damn it, I need a patch or some fix now!!!!
My 60gb PS3 was running it just fine until I finished the first Little Jacob mission and then it would freeze randomly.
Now just last night, it won't even boot up the game! It either gives me a cannot start error or freezes during the intro. Now the game is unplayable.
And when I turn off and on the system, it doesn't detect the disc in the drive and I have to eject it and reinsert it for it to detect!
Is it the disc or a hardware problem because it went from freezing to now cannot even launch the darn thing.
Too bad its my only PS3 game so far, I can't try other PS3 games on it but my PS2 games are still working.
This isn't good at alll!!
Brutlaa @ May 15th 2008 9:44AM
Sounds like the blu-ray laser is missed up. I doubt it has anything to do with the game...
glenn @ May 15th 2008 12:44PM
try disconnecting you ps3 from the internet. either disable connectivity in settings or just pull out the ethernet cable. Then try running the game.
That fixed my gta troubles when they arose. 2 days later i re enabled the internet connection on my ps3 and had no trouble since with gta.
if that doesnt work i advise you try another bluray disc or bluray game to see if it will play. If it doesnt then the Bluray drives dead/dying = Call sony customer services.
hope that helps m8.
davebo @ May 15th 2008 11:29AM
I'm kinda sick of the updates with bug fixes that don't apply to me being required to download before I can do anything on PSN. Why should I have to update firmware for problems I don't have just to download some rock band DLC or a movie trailer? Couldn't they fix it so you're only required to have the latest firmware to play games online?
proArchy @ May 15th 2008 2:35PM
You own a Ps3 so, YES, the updates apply to you. Why are you complaining about a big faceless corporation who already got your money trying to improve their product?

Lars @ May 15th 2008 3:27PM
People like to complain. Does that really surprise you, proArchy?
Andrew Danks @ May 15th 2008 8:35PM
Downloading these firmware updates deprive my Call of Duty 4 time =(
Binaryfiend @ May 15th 2008 1:39PM
OK I love the hunt to find out what the hell Sony actually put in
these firmware updates and I think I may have found a tiny clue about this one. AV watch has an article that says that the new firmware is for youtube uploading from a free game (Hi CHII SSHO to). That's what I got from the machine translation. Maybe we will be getting a surprise today from the PSN store. It seems pretty cool. Hopefully it applies to everyone and not just Japan.
astronautbread @ May 15th 2008 2:16PM
If people are still having problems with GTA, The long list they gave to fix the problem did include the fix, but it's not all needed. Try this:
Delete the cache...
Move your saves (if you have ones worth keeping), but not autosaves, those are the source of the problem.(If you don't have a portable hard, psp, etc. you can just copy them to a different user on your machine, but mke sure to delete them from your account.)
Start the game to reinstall the cache, and immediately quit. Copy your saves back over, and you should be good to go...
That's what I did, and i've had no issues since. (note: I also had Upnp turned off, but it was off before when i was having problems too.)
daniel @ May 15th 2008 3:10PM
I just miss the days when we didn't have patches and fixes... the game devs had to make everything right the first time.. now console gaming is just like pc gaming but without having to replace your pc every 3 years.
The good of this gen is that games can be fixed if un forseen error are found the bad ... games can be shipped unfinished to meet the deadline *cough* GTA4 *cough*
Does anyone remeber the 1st edition of Crash nitro kart on the ps2 you couldn't get velo because of an error one of the devs had made!
Popfrogs @ May 15th 2008 6:26PM
Actually, games have always had bugs and glitches, it's just that now, they're getting so complex that the bugs are harder to find and stomp. But with millions of players doing things the QA guys never thought of (Cod4 map glitches), there are bound to be problems unless the game is very, very simple like fLow.
Just watch any video captured from old Nintendo games. They have graphical glitches from hell with flickering sprites, disappearing enemies, etc. But it was Nintendo and it lowered our expectations. When the SNES came out, going back to NES games was blasphemy because it raised the bar.
Christian @ May 16th 2008 10:07AM
Popfrogs, yes games have always had minor glitches, but most games from the early days worked 99.99% of the time. The GTA glitch should have been spotted really, there seems to be glitches on the XBOX as well. It seems to me that these days developers can get away with charging lots of money per game, release it unfinished and just patch it at a later point to get around any problems they should have picked up in a QA.
If they want us to accept their flawed software, then maybe they should charge less, or even pay their customers to test their games.
I seriosuly don't understand why bugs, especially show stoppers are acceptable.
Dwag @ May 15th 2008 3:52PM
Almost about to be In Game XMb as long as they don't delay that i'll be glad
Pat G @ May 18th 2008 6:12PM
I read all the suggestions to get GTA4 to wrk and it still won't any other ideas? btw my other games are starting to freeze randomly and it started after i got GTA4
