GameTrailer's Metal Gear Retrospective Part 2: Metal Gear Solid

In preparation for the upcoming and final adventure of Solid Snake, GameTrailers is cranking out an awesome retrospective on the series. Last week the crew finished part one which took us back twenty years to the old school games without the "Solid" added on. This week they're taking a look back on the first Metal Gear Solid which made its debut on the PlayStation One.

The Twin Snakes GameCube remake of MGS1 is also glanced at, as well as those memorable (and excruciatingly difficult) missions from VR Missions. Next week should be equally fun as MGS2 (this blogger's personal favorite) will be the next part in the retrospective.

I still haven't PLAYED MGS2... I bought the Essential Collection but I've been busy with other games... I have too many to play. T_T

That game was awesome but I never got how to get the dog tags without killing the guard.

I killed 11 guards in total during my first play.1 was by accident(I thought I had the stun gun equiped...it was the socom ops).

I wonder whne they are going to talk about MGA2 that game was sweet.I hope Kojima makes another Metal gear Ac!d game.

(I never played Portable ops :( )

I didn't know that MGS4 was coming out exactly 10 years after the first one... I didn't think I was going to learn anything new from this

what's sad is that it was meant to come out 20 years after the actual first on, on 7/7/7 last year.

You can flip over the MGS4 logo and see that this was planned a while ago.

Then you should get essentials,it include all MGS games and both Metal gear 1 and 2.

If you ask me Metal gear Solid 3 is the hardest of all the solid games especially because you need to play it on a normal tv,if you play it on a HDTV you can see sh*t.

I meant you can't see sh*t also that you can't load the game,saves are only there in case you die and even so there are checkpoints.

The EC doesn't have MG1/2. Only the Solid games.

ES include MG1 and 2 but you have to unlock them in MGS3:S

I'm pretty sure that you're mistaken. If I remember correctly, MG1/2 came on the second disk of MGS3:S and the Essential Collection doesn't come with the disk. I just finished MGS2 from the ES, so I guess I'll find out.

you know they said that vr missions was only for rabid fans and yet i became a fan after playing (i got the wrong one first) my friends had told me about how great metal gear solid was and when i saw it i bought it straight away and then found out i bought vr missions instead but i liked it so much that i went out and got MGS so it's not just for rabid fans (take that reviewer people)

dogtags-IIRC, you have to sneak up behind them and then lightly press square (I think) to hold them up. The guard should put his hands up. I can't remember which button it is but then you press one of the shoulder buttons. It will allow you to walk in front of the guard with your gun still pointing at him.

Then go into first person, and you'll see if the guard has a dogtag or not if you notice a little shine below his neck. Then you just have to point your gun at either his head or crotch, he'll eventually shake away his dogtag and other goodies.
