Sony provides earthquake relief with autographed swag

There was an earthquake in Sichuan recently -- a pretty bad one. Corporations and individual people have been taking care of donations, including Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong. They have put together some eBay auctions for autographed PlayStation paraphernalia. All proceeds go to World Vision Hong Kong.

SiliconEra has put together a listing for the items and some of them are still without bids! The only problem is you have to be physically present in Hong Kong to claim these prizes. So if you want some pre-paid PlayStation Network cards signed by some pretty famous Sony folk, or a model, a singer, or an actress, go for it. It's for a good cause, but since it forces you to be in Hong Kong, it's a bit difficult to be the good Samaritan.

They could easily get a lot more/higher bids if they allowed these to go worldwide. I mean, it is real easy to ship these to SCEA or SCEE or SCEJ with their other normal office shipments then the particular HQ could mail it from there. I mean, I doubt most people wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks for their item.

The US is known for their charitable givings. We do give more than most.

I'm entirely against donating money to china. A country that prosperous shouldn't take advanage of the situation. They have enough money to take care of themselves.

Dude, you totally need a small glass of perspective.

China's got a gross domestic product of about $7 trillion. That's half what the United States has, but with four times the people (or more - accurate census data being understandably hard to come by). That equates to China having less GDP per capita than El Salvador. Less than Albania. HALF Serbia's.

And five million people made suddenly homeless is not an easy task for any country to cope with.

Anyways im glad to see Sony (Hong Kong branch) is helping out that's really great, i could NEVER see Micro$oft doing something like that, even if a earthquake happens in the USA M$ wouldn't spend a single cent.

And I've heard he keeps a lot of his donations private, so i'm not even sure if those are included in that statistic.
