Sony provides earthquake relief with autographed swag
There was an earthquake in Sichuan recently -- a pretty bad one. Corporations and individual people have been taking care of donations, including Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong. They have put together some eBay auctions for autographed PlayStation paraphernalia. All proceeds go to World Vision Hong Kong.SiliconEra has put together a listing for the items and some of them are still without bids! The only problem is you have to be physically present in Hong Kong to claim these prizes. So if you want some pre-paid PlayStation Network cards signed by some pretty famous Sony folk, or a model, a singer, or an actress, go for it. It's for a good cause, but since it forces you to be in Hong Kong, it's a bit difficult to be the good Samaritan.

I dont think she'd appreciate you putting holes in her photo

They could easily get a lot more/higher bids if they allowed these to go worldwide. I mean, it is real easy to ship these to SCEA or SCEE or SCEJ with their other normal office shipments then the particular HQ could mail it from there. I mean, I doubt most people wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks for their item.
The US is known for their charitable givings. We do give more than most.

who is the one on the picture? she doesn't look like any of the 3 women of the auctions...
Nick Doerr @ May 20th 2008 2:34AM
According to my google image search, that's "Angelababy", the model in question.
Random1448 @ May 19th 2008 10:49PM
Damn! How much for the girl in the picture lol.
massive_98 @ May 19th 2008 10:53PM
I'm entirely against donating money to china. A country that prosperous shouldn't take advanage of the situation. They have enough money to take care of themselves.
Noshino @ May 19th 2008 11:07PM
huh? as far as I know they haven't asked for any help, but then again, help has more meaning when it isn't asked for....
and for the record massive_98, this has nothing to do with their global power but as giving a hand to those that need it
wako @ May 20th 2008 12:03AM
you're an idiot...
even during Katrina, countries that hated us still helped us out, INCLUDING CHINA...
And your donations isnt helping to strengthen China, its called humanitarian aid moron.

"There was an earthquake in Sichuan recently -- a pretty bad one."
It killed 34,000 people and left five million people homeless. Yeah, that's a pretty bad one.
Jeff @ May 19th 2008 11:22PM
Wtf.
That was the most ignorant thing I've ever heard.

Patrick @ May 19th 2008 11:41PM
I totally agree with #4
CaseyB @ May 20th 2008 12:18AM
Dude, you totally need a small glass of perspective.
China's got a gross domestic product of about $7 trillion. That's half what the United States has, but with four times the people (or more - accurate census data being understandably hard to come by). That equates to China having less GDP per capita than El Salvador. Less than Albania. HALF Serbia's.
And five million people made suddenly homeless is not an easy task for any country to cope with.
Mike @ May 19th 2008 11:49PM
@ #4
government and its people are two separate entities
if the money goes to help the people when the government is not you are still against this?
飞龙 @ May 20th 2008 12:13AM
I was so angry with that some one who said on this page !!
你们有些外国人人品太差 !! 恶心 !!没人性!!!
jetski @ May 20th 2008 12:21AM
Right, everyone generally flocks to China to make a living rather than U.S.
Want - Angelababy's autograph
held225 @ May 20th 2008 12:31AM
@comment #4, 95% of your stuff is probably made in China, so be thankful that China is a good trading partner. And what do you mean by "takes advantage of that situation" ?? i dont think they were asking for that earthquake in the 1st place . Anyways im glad to see Sony (Hong Kong branch) is helping out that's really great, i could NEVER see Micro$oft doing something like that, even if a earthquake happens in the USA M$ wouldn't spend a single cent.
Popfrogs @ May 20th 2008 1:27AM
"if a earthquake happens in the USA M$ wouldn't spend a single cent."
Hey now, I'm not defending Microsoft but they'd donate money
for a tax write-off.

I think MS WOULD spend money on disaster relief. As someone in the comments section once said "make your words sweet. you might end up eating them".
never$$hort @ May 20th 2008 5:07AM
yeah for a tax write off like popfrogs said... Nothing will ever be be free of charge from M$.
Da @ May 20th 2008 7:14AM
Bill Gates donates more money to more charities than any other person on the planet. Fact.
And I've heard he keeps a lot of his donations private, so i'm not even sure if those are included in that statistic.
So i'm not saying anything about M$, but before you make stupid comments please understand the facts.
GRT @ May 20th 2008 11:01AM
To back up Da...

And yeah Nick, that opener was pretty "Duh" worthy. An earthquake in China? You don't say.... it isn't like its on the news constantly or anything.
That part of the globe is really getting its ass handed to it. The cyclone in Burma and now this... bad mojo...
deaftly @ May 20th 2008 2:27PM
Do you guys have to turn everything into an anti "M$" thing? btw using the S as a dollar sign is still lame as hell.
gooftroop @ May 20th 2008 3:01PM
@ Da - that is Bill gates though, not Microsoft. And yes Bill Gates does a lot for charity.
never$$hort @ May 20th 2008 3:16PM
Yes Da you are correct... FOR F****ING TAX WRITE-OFFS FOR THE 3RD TIME!!!!
;)
