Guitar Hero World Tour officially unveiled
World Tour also has apparently taken hold of the idea to "record and release your own single" and will integrate user-created content into the game. At least this is one innovation to be found in World Tour that Rock Band hasn't already covered. Forgive us if we're being cynical, but the idea that Guitar Hero wants to further divide the market along with Konami makes us wonder if any of these new titles will be successful. World Tour and Konami's band game will both hit retailers sometime in Fall 2008. It'll be most fun to watch these two clones cannibalize each other.

Double "UGH"
......Really, this genre of game needs to die....hardcore.
Bryan jones @ May 22nd 2008 2:16AM
yeah, i feel the same way, now i have to sell my rockband stuff to pay for this stuff....maybe the guitars are compatible?
kevin @ May 21st 2008 3:30PM
lol guitar hero fails now
reson8er @ May 21st 2008 3:43PM
Activision will officially rename this franchise to:
We Wish We Thought of it Hero
HAAS599 @ May 21st 2008 3:43PM
I already have rock band and am not about to start a plastic drum collection.
Plus I have already bought songs online and dont want lose them because I have moved on to a new game.
If you dont own any of these games, the price of Rock Band should go down in the fall and there will already be a good chunk of songs to download by then.
Seminole @ May 21st 2008 4:37PM
+1.
I can't keep buying big drum sets for every new game. I only have a 1BR apartment and space is at a minimum. Sorry, but I'm not getting this game. I have rock band and one drum set is already a big enough PITA. Not only that, but I'm not paying $100+ for another game.
Richard Comegys @ May 22nd 2008 12:22AM
Well I don't know about you guys, but I live in a tiny apartment in Japan, and my real drum kit takes up about 1/6th of my apartment. That didn't stop me from importing Rock Band at a huge cost, and it won't stop me from getting both this and Rock Revolution either. I play Rock Band every night for at least half an hour. It's just a crapload of fun. Though I hope that A) both games have a non-bundled option from the start and B) their online community is more active than Rock Band's.
Torgo @ May 21st 2008 3:48PM
After GH3, I'm done with the series. I am very happy with Rock Band, and as long as they continue to support it with new music etc, it's all I really need.
SolidOtacon @ May 21st 2008 3:54PM
Sorry people I know that this is offtopic but why doesn't europe get the Limited Edition of MGS 4 ?
I know they do have it in UK for pre-order but they only ship it for the UK adresses.
I mean.... Konami what about the rest of Europe ?
clif @ May 21st 2008 3:55PM
What's interesting about this trailer is...
WHERE IS THE GAME FOOTAGE AT!!!!!!!!
That's a bad teaser and maybe a bad sign that they didn't show a single clip of game footage!!
Plus, like Guitar Hero On Tour the advertising looks awful too.
Epic Fail Activision
davebo @ May 21st 2008 4:12PM
They probably don't have any polished up footage to show just yet. They just wanted to let everyone know it's coming and figure they'll tack on vocals and drum charts over the summer, roll it out in the fall. If they decide to prevent rock revolution from using Activision instruments then that'll be dead in the water. The only way I see this competing with Rock Band is if the drum kit actually works well and tons of people don't have to RMA everything. RedOctane might actually do that well, but I'll just stick with Rock Band.
ps3Pablo @ May 21st 2008 5:35PM
Why can't the console manufactures like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft do more to limit this kind of market fragmentation.
Their licensing scheme should outline a certain level of cooperation on new hardware accessories.
I would be more inclined to by both if this were the case.
justinb @ May 21st 2008 4:24PM
You know what I was actually going to buy this then I heard they are getting a full instrument set... Sorry but
I have rockband to give me that experince I have guitar hero to give me just a "guitar" experince thats what they were good at... Now they are good at well looks like NOTHING! NO BUY for me or my friends.
Mikezula @ May 21st 2008 4:31PM
So.....
....it's more like Rockband. My money doesn't go to copycats. I'll wait for Rockband's next iteration.
wisconsinista @ May 21st 2008 4:41PM
Worsest. Video. Ever.
Nathanical @ May 21st 2008 4:59PM
what they need to do is scrap the whole band thing and continue to specialise in what theyve previously done, which they do well! Guitar Hero is ALL ABOUT LOUD AND ARROGANT GUITAR PLAYING and always should be, screw diluting the game with needless periferals. What they need to do is make some kind of 'Shred Store' where they can lovingly add and maintain a steady stream of content, and if that involves a new game with a more flexable interface, so be it. If they get the DLC sorted, they dont need needless pointless sequels. Today we see the death of guitar hero. The death of the father of rock games.
adolson @ May 21st 2008 5:01PM
I thought it only had three drum pads, rather than four?
Either way, Konami invented this whole genre, and it's too bad they're coming in so late to the party because nobody seems to give them the recognition they deserve..
Oh well. Rock Band is good enough for me. I have my own real Roland drums, and the Rock Band drums. I can't crowd up my place with Konami's kit and Activision's kit.. Too bad they don't want to play nice with each other, these three companies.
anthonyjh @ May 21st 2008 5:33PM
I never bought Rockband, so I might end up getting this. If you guys haven't seen the preview in GI, you should really check it out. Song creation, really deep character customization, creating your own guitar, and a whole crap load of stuff I can't remember...
Regardless, this competition can only further the genre in the best possible way.
macserv @ May 21st 2008 7:32PM
Wow, the first comment with some intelligent thought behind it. Competition is good, and this game looks solid, with a much more realistic layout for the kit.
crazypenguin @ May 21st 2008 5:51PM
unless of course you have already bought rock band... this is definently the best set for a game yet. i mean seriously, the drums are wirless (unlike rockband) and the new song features sounds amazing (altough i probobly will end up NOT using it) but it looks like a load of fun, and is so far, technically better than rock band in everyway (except for maybe music choice) depending on what songs they come out with, and the price of the bundle (please don't be over the price of rockband, PLEASE BE UNDER)
Rated-G @ May 21st 2008 6:39PM
What's the point of wireless drums? You're not going anywhere with the kit anyway? Why would I care if an instrument that I'm preferably going to sit down to play is wireless or not?
And as of yet nothing has shown that this game is better than Rock Band. We won't know that until it's out. So there's a song creation feature... That's either really cool, or really uncool. You'll either get some cool songs out of it, or a bunch of lousy instrumental songs....
Neversoft has yet to prove that they can make charts up to par with Harmonix, and they have yet to prove that they're drum set is better.
I'm surprised it's still called Guitar Hero.... I find that funny.
crazypenguin @ May 21st 2008 6:44PM
well, obviously you have to be a downer on my comment :( anyway, i just think that guitar hero will do a better job thats all, my opinion is my opinion, don't sue me. gah
Paul @ May 21st 2008 5:57PM
Sony should step in and mandate that all the "instruments" be standardized. Can you imagine what would happen if all the big game publishers decided to start making their own controllers far all their games? Killzone would need its own...and resistance would need its own, etc. It would be lame beyond imagining.
And, Cymbals? Are you kidding me? The rockband drumkit is annoying enough as it is....now I could (not that I'll buy GHWT) piss my wife off even more.
Todd @ May 21st 2008 6:34PM
Activision kind of ruined Guitar Hero. While Guitar Hero III was fun, a lot of the chord and note progressions made absolutely no sense to me. I can only imagine how they'll botch the drums up.
I would only ever think of getting this game if Activision released new content on a regular basis, like they do with Guitar Hero III. Oh, wait. They don't release new content. Nevermind.
koehler83 @ May 21st 2008 7:12PM
"The drum set for Guitar Hero" is a phrase, not a sentence. It's a sentence fragment.
tsk tsk tsk.
Fane @ May 21st 2008 8:19PM
The drum set ... WILL INCLUDE.... It's a complete clause/sentence.
Madsci @ May 21st 2008 9:57PM
I wonder if all of these "wireless" peripherals will be of the same shitty quality as the GH3 Les Paul. I bought it at launch, and 6 guitar replacements later dumped it cuz it didn't work for shit. It wouldn't register strums and/or notes, OR it would register them too late. I played it on 360 at a friend's house and had no issues. Activision/Neversoft apparently didn't give a crap about the PS3 community for this game, otherwise their guitars would have worked. And that's not even taking into consideration how botched and unbalanced the game was. Sorry craptivision, I have rock band and will not bother with "Guitar Hero: Rock Band Edition". They'll never see another cent.
TVGenius @ May 22nd 2008 11:13AM
Those drums look craptacular.
Acole @ May 23rd 2008 12:04AM
I have GH3 for the Wii, and Rockband is only coming out June 22nd for it. Because the GH3 Guitars won't be compatable, I'll be holding out for World Tour. This sounds like a great game and the Kit looks much better.
ammar91994 @ May 25th 2008 8:01AM
Looks much better than rock band IMO, especialy with the more realistic drums and song creation tools. There is a picture of the new guitar on guitarhero.com, and it looks like they are gonna have solo buttons like Rock Band, but touch sebsitive rather than actual buttons like the main frets. I'm glad I didn't buy Rock Band now. BTW, the Muse and Dream On DLC apparently have more realistic note patterns, so hopefully the songs in GH4 will be like that aswell.
