'Bioshock on PS3' rumor finally confirmed true
After first appearing in February 2007, a full five months before the games release, the rumor that Bioshock would be coming to PS3 has been debunked and revived more times than we can count (and we can count quite high!). Now, however, the time for rumors is over as the cover of UK mag PSM3 has not only confirmed that the title will be made available for the PS3, but that it will be a somehow superior version of the game. We won't find out in what way until the magazine arrives on news stands on June 5th.
While it may be a few weeks before we get any details on what makes the PS3 version different, it's nice to finally get some closure regarding this confusing "will it, won't it" rumor. However, the game has been out for over six months now, so we're hoping for some significant changes in order to make the port worthwhile. Let's be honest here, most gamers have played this on the 360 and those who didn't have played it on the PC. Right?

nope, I would'nt buy it though.
HektikLyfe @ May 22nd 2008 2:33PM
Same here, I've never been one for sloppy seconds.
Seriously though, even if it IS a superior version, why by it again and so late? Exclusivity, timed as it is, has done its damage.
I have it on the 360, played it on the 360 and I am done with it on the 360. For employed adults like myself that have both systems, this is a non-event.
SimbaDogg @ May 22nd 2008 8:54PM
seriously, i dont get whats up w/ you guys...if a good game is a good game. its just that, a good game. this isn't a girl were talking about, its a video game.
i dont care if it came out 3 years ago, and was on every single platform including pc. if its good, i'll buy it, i can care less if 360 and PC had their go at it already. if you have a wii or ps3 (only) you've probably never played it (like me), so i'm sure people like me that aren't busy with socom or RFOM2 will find time for another shooter.
Da @ May 22nd 2008 10:17PM
" this isn't a girl were talking about, its a video game. "
Exactly, it doesn't matter that it's a little older now.
Lars @ May 23rd 2008 3:56PM
I was planning on getting it for PC, but I played it for an hour or so on 360 and I didn't get what all the hype was about. It honestly didn't seem that great to me. It was overly dark and the graphics were not up to par. It has a pseudo-stylized approach which tries to save it, but it winds up like another Redneck Rampage. But who knows, maybe it has some awesome story elements or something that creep up at a later point.
A.E. @ May 22nd 2008 10:55AM
First off, i still dont believe it. And secondly, it will probably be butchered like orange box.
Snutz @ May 22nd 2008 11:02AM
I have the Orange Box, and I have not noticed this "butchering" at all. So if Bioshock turns out the same way, I'm buying it.
benny boy @ May 22nd 2008 11:30AM
People keep saying how the PS3 version was sooo bad compared to the 360 one. This just isn't true. People are just repeating what everyone else is saying .
There is nothing wrong with the PS3 version of the Orange Box. It's a nice, smooth experience in my opinion.
adolson @ May 22nd 2008 12:06PM
Well, my problem with the Orange Box is that I don't get 5.1 sound at all - just stereo, and really bad stereo at that. It makes Half-Life unplayable. I enjoy Portal though.
Akamaru @ May 22nd 2008 12:09PM
I loved Orange Box on PS3. It was so much fun any slight performance glitches (which have since been patched) didn't affect my enjoyment of the game.
I will buy Bioshock on day one.
lobotomies4free @ May 22nd 2008 2:05PM
with you all the way
HanzoTheRazor @ May 23rd 2008 4:11AM
@ A.E "It will probably be butchard like orange Box" why is it wankers only ever bring up the same negative shit like this? Really good example of waiting for a port of a game to the PS3 is Oblivion. The PS3 ver is like a totally different game in visuals, load times and frame rate very much worth the wait!I haven't picked up a copy of BS yet for my 360, so I am very excited about this positive only news! I spose, all good things come to those who wait. :p
Kspraydad @ May 22nd 2008 10:55AM
Haven't played it and I have thought it looked interesting. I'll buy it.
Jove @ May 22nd 2008 10:56AM
...weeeeeeeeeell. considering most ps3 owners also have an xbox360, i dont think this will sell thaaaat much.
@ jem alexander... dont you guys have some uk correspondants that can get this so you dont have to wait till it gets to the u.s. or are you talking about the uk one that will arrive on june 5th over there?
Kspraydad @ May 22nd 2008 11:04AM
MOST PS3 owners have an Xbox 360?
Have any empirical data on that?
I find that HIGHLY unlikely.
deusmecha @ May 22nd 2008 11:05AM
"...weeeeeeeeeell. considering most ps3 owners also have an xbox360, i dont think this will sell thaaaat much. "
No. No we don't.
We're not rich.
Jove @ May 22nd 2008 11:06AM
hell just read what most ppl always comment here and there...
didnt realize ppl were soo sensitive here
Kspraydad @ May 22nd 2008 11:08AM
Again with the 'most' word...No, MOST people do not comment that PS3 owners are also Xbox 360 owners. It isn't sensitivity it is accuracy.
Jesse @ May 22nd 2008 11:37AM
a PS3 and a Xbox 360... psh, I just have 2 PS3s...
Andrew Yoon @ May 22nd 2008 10:59AM
Bioshock really is a fantastic game. Can't wait to see what the PS3 version looks like.
ryan @ May 22nd 2008 12:14PM
it had a formula of kill, loot and repeat.
it really could have benefited from some Metroid or Resident Evil puzzles. it had one with the fire plasmid but failed to continue that. it just became a corridor shooter.
i mean, you have all these awesome plasmids yet you only need to rely on 2 or 3. I never even used the bees or tornado plasmid.
the game is just pretty with some good audio, a lame end bossa nd has very low replay value.
donnie @ May 22nd 2008 8:57PM
Yes the game lacks replay value because it doesnt have multiplayer. But what is there is phenomenal. The many different plasmids exist so the player can choose which ones to specialize in. I prefer my ps3 over my 360 by a long shot but Bioshock is still one of the best games I've ever played. I rented it for the 360 but if there happens to be extra content (not just better graphics) I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for the ps3.
NickB @ May 22nd 2008 11:02AM
Eh, I have the 360 version, but have yet to play it. I'm vaguely interested in anything 'new' the PS3 version might provide.
MouseyC @ May 22nd 2008 11:03AM
Cool, now i can choose not to play it on PS3 as well as PC. I really didn't understand the hype of Bioshock, it's an ok shooter, but nothing more.
Gaucho @ May 22nd 2008 11:04AM
Love the Bioshock story, the game itself, not so much. I would prefer a port of Mass Effect.
Vohaul79 @ May 22nd 2008 11:20AM
Me too...Mass Effect or Lost Odd..would be preferred over Bioshock IMO...oh well, at least if its a shooter its supposed to be one of the better ones.
Lost Od / Mass Effect would go great on BR disc with an install to help loads..
leiwei @ May 22nd 2008 12:20PM
ewww you liked Bioshock's story? I don't know, I found it too generic and the twist was obvious. Atmosphere was great, but I really really really really really wished it to be the successor to SS2, and IMO it wasn't the case. Maybe I set my expectations way too high. Did I just say atmosphere was great? Slash that! It's "good" It wasn't enough to scare me like it did the eerie loneliness that was SS2's Von Braun.
What's really sad is that when I played the demo off Marketplace, the scene w/ the woman and the baby carriage was what sold me to the game. I had thought they nailed a retro SS2, but man was I disappointed w/ the story, lack of rpg element (no bags, stat buildup, research, etc). The game turned out too be so much more like an FPS.
Brodie-san @ May 22nd 2008 11:05AM
@ Jove
I know 5 people with PS3s. 1 has a 360. So, maybe you just have more hardcore mates with lots of disposable cash who buy every console known to manthan I do . *SOME* people buy them all. A lot pick one (or two: Wii + 360 or Wii + PS3).
Personally I've been waiting for this game on the PS3 for a long time and I'm definitely picking it up. All my 360 mates have it and love it.
@A.E.
The issues regarding THB on the PS3 was blown out of proportion. I've played it on the 360 and on a mate's PS3 and, I swear to God, I couldn't see a difference or a frame-rate issue on the PS3. Maybe side-by-side you can notice the 360 version being better but the whole "it's unplayable on the PS3!" claim is bogus IMHO.
The *only* reason I haven't picked it up yet is because I haven't the time to play it. But I will. Eventually.
boots555 @ May 22nd 2008 11:07AM
I played this on PC, but still like to see it on PS3.
Dirty @ May 22nd 2008 11:07AM
I hope it looks better, It came out a year ago! And I sold my 360 copy after I beat it, so I might try it on the PS3.
Josh @ May 22nd 2008 11:08AM
I rented Bioshock and played through it over a weekend. If it comes out with extra plasmids and whatnot (including the free DLC on XBL) and at a $39.00 pricepoint, I'd pick it up.
I'd also like to play it through differently; the time I beat it, I rescued all the Little Sisters.
eclipse27 @ May 22nd 2008 11:42AM
Im with you Josh....Ill cop it at a 39.99 entry price point.
I hope that its better on the PS3 than on 360
fersis @ May 22nd 2008 11:11AM
Good news!
im gonna buy it no matter what.
Hope MGO let me some time off to play another game.
Brodie-san @ May 22nd 2008 11:14AM
Oh, and the game has been out NINE months.
Nine months yesterday in fact (if you beileve the release date of the 360 version on gamerankings.com).
:)
Christian @ May 22nd 2008 11:14AM
@Jove: the claim that most PS3 owners also has a xbox360 is pure bollocks. You have no hard figures to document such a claim. It would be like I assuming that since between me and my friends for instance there is seven including me with just a PS3 and one guy who owns both that this percentage of dual ownership somehow is generally true. So unless you are able to bring up a non-internet survey supporting your claim dare say its just hubris.
As for the quality of the port I think we could be hopefully its pretty decent. Due to the recent collaboration between Epic and Sony on UT3 the Unreal engine has become pretty good on Sony hardware and upcoming Unreal engine titles shouldn't suffer from the troubles of the early ports.
Daniel @ May 22nd 2008 11:16AM
Eh, I'll check it out, but I usually don't like the super-hyped xbox/pc games even from the old days (Dead to Rights, Fable, Oblivion) they just didn't appeal to me.
But, Bioshock at least has a great style to it.
Efeez1986 @ May 22nd 2008 1:06PM
Agreed, Xbox exclusives are very overrated.
reson8er @ May 22nd 2008 11:22AM
I totally have not played it, and would love to see what kind of treatment it gets on the PS3.
In all honesty, I try to turn on my 360 as little as possible, since doing so requires me to crank up my sound system to compensate for the absurd volume of the internals fans.
I don't even buy games on 360 anymore because of that reason.
That being said, if it comes to PS3 with at least an "as good" version, I'll buy it :)
I'd love to see System Shoch re-done HD style too :o
Brodie-san @ May 22nd 2008 11:24AM
I liked Fable!
:)
But like the other commenter - the big port I'm waiting for is Mass Effect.
That's really the only game on the 360 I want.
hobbes @ May 22nd 2008 11:24AM
guess i'm not most. I pile the 360 right up there with activision on my least wanted product. Once a 360 offers free live accounts, and ability to use any HardDrive, i won't buy one from the money mongers.
never$$hort @ May 22nd 2008 1:38PM
+1
Popfrogs @ May 22nd 2008 4:13PM
You forgot to mention built-in wireless controllers and networking, and reliability. It lacks all of these things.
Kenology @ May 22nd 2008 11:26AM
They'd be stupid NOT to port Bioshock to the PS3. But it's going to be tough for it to standout later this year (against Resistance 2) and early next year (against Killzone 2). The best case scenario is to launch it asap.
Meadows14 @ May 22nd 2008 11:30AM
Good points:
Great gameplay
Another "360 exclusive" coming to PS3
One more reason to buy a ps3
Bad points:
Story spoiled as I didn't know it was coming, as they denied it was coming i figured they wouldnt lie and checked out the story. THOSE B*STARDS
halebound00 @ May 22nd 2008 11:34AM
Hmmmmm....I just got a new CPU that can handle some serious PC gaming and was thinking about getting Bioshock first, but now I might just wait. Glad I never purchased a 360 though, all its games that I want to play I can get on PS3 or PC.
Eric E @ May 22nd 2008 11:35AM
This was the only game to date that made me want a 360 a little, but the fact any good 360 game is on the PC too diminishes it.
I was just about to build a new computer this summer and the graphics card was just going to be for this game. nevermind that.
Kohath @ May 22nd 2008 4:32PM
Same for me. I have been thinking of getting a 360 to play Bioshock. (I'd also play Gears and some others, but Bioshock is the #1 reason.) Now I can get it for PS3.
I think the main reason to release it is because they're making Bioshock 2.
Laurens Holst @ May 22nd 2008 11:35AM
I haven’t played it, don’t have an XBox 360 and my laptop probably doesn’t play it well (plus I don’t really like playing games on the PC).
Looking forward to buying it for my PS3 :).
Tanya @ May 22nd 2008 11:40AM
Well not I really don't have a reason to get a 360. I played this game on by friends 360 and thought it was cool and it would have been a game that I would have maybe got a 360 for because it was only on that system. But now I can enjoy it on my PS3 in bliss ^_^
linton @ May 22nd 2008 11:54AM
I played the demo on pc and wanted it, but as I'm not a pc gamer I didnt get it, If it does come to our ps3's then its a must buy for me - oh hell yeah baby
