Brett Ratner could be working on God of War movie
Video game movie adaptations haven't been all too successful, and it doesn't look like that trend will change once Brett Ratner joins the ring. The director of films, such as X-Men III and the Rush Hour series, is looking to go into the ever-growing genre of games movies. Currently, Ratner is producing a commercial for the Guitar Hero series. He is also directing the first non-Hannah Montana music video for Miley Cyrus. A man of many tastes, to be sure.A quick blurb at the end of a recent Advertising Age article also suggests that his next target may be Sony's esteemed franchise. According to the article, "[Ratner] also mentioned that he might be working on a movie adaptation of the video game God of War." While the God of War franchise would make for an excellent film if in the right hands, we're still weary about the quality of games films. We'll see if anything comes to fruition.

i bet david jaffe has no say in this but i think he would fight really hard for this movie to end up in good hands.
and they better not mess up the movie. god of war's story is better then any other game series in my opinion.

You must not have played Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy then... or any game that actually has a story.
ArcaneBane @ May 30th 2008 1:46PM
Hollywood directors need to stop making video game movies. The movies are never as good as the video game and it ends up reflecting poorly upon the game franchise.
If people want to experience the excellent story of God of War they should play the game. Not wait for some garbage Hollywood version.
reson8er @ May 30th 2008 1:55PM
Yeah its always hard to emulate the EXPERIENCE of the game. I mean your playing a game for 20+ hours and are viewing the story in an interactive fashion. In that respect its really hard to adapt games to an at most 2 hour movie.
Peter Jackson might be the best qualified for such a task though.

I'd much rather see Nolan's take on Kratos, I think he'd at least look at it as a story and not just a series of special-effects sequences.
True_Darknight @ May 30th 2008 2:06PM
I hope it's a 3 part movie!!!! no way to put all that into one movie!!!!!! come on now.. and not this guy!!!!!
Gemini Ace @ May 30th 2008 2:15PM
He ruined the X-Men franchise.

Not to mention making me never want to see another movie with Jackie Chan (or Chris Tucker, for that matter) in it again!
mccomber @ May 30th 2008 3:51PM
I felt that way about Chris Tucker movies prior to even seeing one...
sicklesdawg @ May 30th 2008 4:35PM
AllBrett Ratner movies sucks @$$....
But he didn't ruin X3 the ending in X2 with the "!phoenix?" did that...Phoenix whole outer space story is what destroyed X-men comic.
Gemini Ace @ May 31st 2008 7:46PM
The Phoenix Saga could have been done well if Singer had kept the reins. Ratner killed X-3 because he made the Juggernaut a mutant and gave all other mutants multiple powers. And he killed Cyclops. And the bridge scene. And Beast. I could go on...

Maybe its just me, but having never played Hitman or Resident Evil, i thought both films were pretty good.
Maybe if i was a die-hard gamer of either and saw how it didnt stay true to the series or wasnt accurate or whatever, i'd feel different, but on a straight forward entertainment level, i thought both were pretty good.
Of course, you still have Doom, Dead or Alive, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter...

Ratner is terrible! This movie had to be dark a gritty. If we had the combination of Tony Scott producing it and David Fincher directing it. That would be awesome. They would do Kratos justice.
iFester @ May 30th 2008 3:42PM
Oh great, I can just see it now:
"Don't you know who I am? I'm Kratos bitch!"
Riley Freeman @ May 30th 2008 3:46PM
ratner didnt ruin the xmen movies. the xmen movies were bad on there own. that is a group movie and they did not include the entire group. next 3 movies they didnt introduce gambit or make rogue fly. most fans wanted gambit 3 movies and they couldnt figure it out. they screwed up.
anyways ratner is terrible. i say mr 300 zach snyder or rober rodriguez. 300 was dark and so was sin city. that being said i have never played god of war. and i dont feel like buying a psp. i will buy it once it comes to ps3.
nolan wont take it on as he already has batman dark characters he doesnt want to do 2 of them
Brodie-san @ May 30th 2008 4:53PM
Though not at fan of the third X-Men I disagree that Gambit should have appeared or that Rogue should have flew. And in the great tradition of internet debate (and sans name calling) here's why ...
Gambit: he's a fan fave but he's a pretty one-dimensional character. Having him in the story would completely offset the Wolverine loner persona as there's just not enough room for the two characters. They might be very different in powers and personality and though their modus operandi might be different flavours, they're of the same stock. If you think about it, Gambit would bring nothing to the table that Wolverine couldn't. And in a film where there are so many characters he's an easy cut. Maybe going forward, if they make another X-Men movie and Wolverine doesn't feature, it would be interesting to bring the Gambit character to the mix and flesh out his character a bit.
2) Rogue not flying/Ice-Man not having the slide/etc. Singer grounded the X-Men stories in the real world and therefore kept the fantastical to a quasi believable level. Having Rogue flying around the place would go against the plot device of how she can only absorb memories and powers of those she touches. In the comics she absorbs Sunfire's powers and gains the power of flight. Apart from Angel, no one in the comics is seeing as having the power of flight. Making her too powerful (she also has immense super-strength in the comics) also goes against the entire "lost lamb" shtick.
The reason the films were such a success was due to the blend of the fantastical and the metaphor of mutation being a form of prejudice. Going too far into the fantastical diminishes the message of the film.
Oh, and I hate Ratner's films. All of them. Even the ones he hasn't made yet.
:)
Gemini Ace @ May 31st 2008 7:45PM
Actually, Rogue got her powers from Ms. Marvel. She absorbed her abilities, which included flight and super-strength. And I believe Ms. Marvel is still trapped inside Rogue's head.

If I'm not mistaken, Brett Ratner was announced yesterday as being attached to the next Beverly Hills Cop film with Eddie Murphy.
Brodie-san @ May 30th 2008 4:55PM
"... no one in the FILMS even."
Riley Freeman @ May 30th 2008 6:00PM
i see what ur saying but i thnik gambit could work with wolverine. i mean they dont have to be onscreen alllllll the time. plus he needs to hit on rogue its funny lol and the accent. but its frustrating id much rather them get rid of cyclops. hesssssss dull as a rock. does anyone even seriously like him? all he ever does is run after jean like a puppy dog.
i want my gambit no more xmen movies till they get it right. storm flew in the movies only for short stints but nevertheless she flew. ah well. they are starting ruin all movies now. spider man 3 sucked too. superman was average. speed racer was should have never been made or was made and marketed the wrong way. i could have called that flop a mile a way. ironman surprised me both that it made so much and the fact it was good. transformers sucked but im biased because of the crappy colors i didnt know what was going on when they were fighting each other. Ive never read anything on the wacthmen but im very curious about it.
anext spider man needs carnage and venom also or dont make anymore
