Free $100 gift card with PS3 purchase at Walmart.com
Super-ultra-mega-retailer Wal-Mart has an enticing offer for those that haven't jumped on the PS3 bandwagon (we're looking at you, Mr. "I'm an Xbox fanboy, but for some reason I comment exclusively on PS3 Fanboy"). The 40GB PS3 system is available with a special bonus: a $100 gift card that can be used for future purchases at the store. If you pick up in-store, shipping is free, but having it mailed to your front door will cost $10. An extra hundred bucks to spend will net you a few games and movies -- we think that's a pretty sweet deal.[Thanks, Alan!]

This upsets me much. I wish I would have found a deal like this when I bought mine! Now there is no reason for someone not to buy a Ps3!!!
kevin @ May 30th 2008 3:21PM
stop being jealous.
jealousy is bad my friend.
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 12:10PM
...or you could use that $100 to buy a PS2 to replace the backward compatability that you're losing with the 40G model.
Scout Rush @ May 30th 2008 12:35PM
Why would someone with no ps2/ps2 games want backwards compatibility?
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 12:38PM
Because they want to play MGS 1-3 before 4 comes out?
Popfrogs @ May 30th 2008 2:20PM
Trollin' trollin' trollin', keep them comments rollin, Joystiq must be borin', sea tuna! Don't keep them fanboys waitin', post comments they'll be hatin', then it's back to another forum where you'll hiiiiide...
baby sea tuna @ May 30th 2008 3:15PM
Cute. But am I wrong?
Like I've said before, my $500+ contribution to Sony grants me the right to say whatever the fuck I want about their product.
Oh, *and* it blessed me with backwards compatibility to boot!
(P.S. You're right, both Joystiq and work are boring today. I'm just kickin around here waiting for some MGS news.)

That's cute. I even voted you up for it. But, am I wrong?
Like I've said before, my $500+ contribution to Sony grants me the right to say whatever the fuck I want about their product.
Oh, *and* it blessed me with backwards compatible access to one of the largest game libraries to boot!

Because I gave my PS2 to my parents for when my nephews come over, but I still have a few games that I currently can't play. I also haven't played GoW2 yet, since I gave it away expecting to buy a PS2 and Heavenly Sword Jan 07. The game never came out in January and I started getting ansy about games getting delayed, pushed back, or canceled. When it did come out, it was called short with limited replay value. I already have a 360, so stuff like MGS4 is what I'm waiting for. When I do get one, i'll have to try Heavenly Sword and Warhawk as well. I just didn't want to buy the system and not have to drop a load of cash on a five hour affair.
Gemini Ace @ May 30th 2008 12:35PM
I'll be getting this come Sunday. It'll be my first Sony console ever. Damn you, HD-DVD for losing the format war. :-P
John S @ May 30th 2008 12:41PM
wow, what a deal. don't even have to apply for a sony credit card hah.
PSPDog @ May 30th 2008 12:42PM
Maybe it's time for that secoond PS3.
Mike @ May 30th 2008 12:44PM
Can't resist any more... Time to finally get a PS3. Need to move fast. 7 days only....
This is sweet, just in time for MGS4, and the other impressive exclusives this year on PS3.
Gemini Ace @ May 30th 2008 1:06PM
Sounds like the deal will be for at least 2 weeks.

Dr. Strangepork @ May 30th 2008 1:03PM
Man, I wish they had this on the upcoming 80GB MGS4 bundle.
We'll see in a few weeks if they do the same thing for that model.
eros8166 @ May 30th 2008 1:07PM
That's a pretty "sweet" deal indeed. Yes, a "SWEET" deal. I'll begin spreading the PS3 fanboyism (or-dom)...... NOW!
eros8166 @ May 30th 2008 1:24PM
It also seems like they offer a few other bundles which include games, movies, controllers and the $100 gift card and is eligible for 97 cent shipping. Nice find.
Michael @ May 30th 2008 1:49PM
I am seriously thinking getting a second PS3 for Blu-ray in the bedroom....plus gaming on the side, but don't tell my wife that.
xeleion @ May 30th 2008 3:51PM
AUGH, WHY COULDN'T THEY DO THIS WITH THE 80 GIG? WHY IS IT BEING DISCONTINUED? -shoots self-
Popfrogs @ May 30th 2008 4:41PM
Uh, you know that the MGS4 bundle is getting an 80GB right? Right?
xeleion @ May 30th 2008 5:26PM
Yeah, but that's in limited numbers. Also, that comes with the standard edition and I wanted to get the limited edition, meaning I'll end up with two copies of the game. That's why I'm trying to find one before the release of MGS4.
Kamen @ May 30th 2008 7:16PM
I just bought it last week. Can I get the giftcard?
railven @ May 30th 2008 7:17PM
@Xeleion
I'm sure you have a friend who might be interested in MGS4. I have my little cousin who is interested in the stock version.
So I told him I'd sell him the copy that came with the bundle for $50 (could have said $60, no tax but he's my cousin hehe.)
So if this deal runs long enough into the 80GB MGS4 bundle, sweet, I get an 80GB PS3 for my bedroom upstairs for $350 dollars! You can't beat that!
Sam @ May 31st 2008 5:09PM
dude im totally going to buy this come sunday when it arrives in my city
should i expect lines?
that puts a damper on the whole thing ):
MastrCake @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:51AM
Don't mind me, just an Xbox 360 fanboy passing through...
Okay, okay. All 360 fanboyisms aside, I really do want a PS3, and I am saving up for one. I guess I need to start making money FASTER!!! Before the deal expires.
Oh, and by the way, I'm sorry about the picture of Mister Chief. Like I said, I am just an Xbox 360 fanboy passing through.
