Rumor: PS3 Eternal Sonata for Japan only
Speaking with Videogaming247, the US branch of Namco Bandai said that the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata will most likely not be released outside Japan. "I can't speak for any other territories, but I believe Eternal Sonata is only announced for the PS3 in Japan right now," said the Namco rep. "We have no plans to release the game on the PS3 in the US at this moment."
We haven't heard much about the RPG and Xbox 360 timed exclusive since the announcement of a PS3 port last year. We guess this explains why.

RebornJeremiah @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:14PM
who cares, you suck.
JerJerBinks @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:04AM
Meh, I don't care, JRPGs suck IMO.
Matthew M @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:21PM
If this comes to be true, I will cry. And then import it because it's region free. Booya.
J @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:46PM
had I not been too lazy to continue my japanese language lessons, I would do what you plan to do. ;( laziness is evil.
I played the 360 version until the cemetery maze, and then it RROD'd... =\
okay i lied...
I just don't like puzzles.
The game was fun... VERY FUN... until the maze puzzle, hehe. However, I would have considered purchasing this game for the ps3 anyway, because i simply want to sell my 360 version.
Actually i lended it to my cousin, and he keeps everything i lend to him. I don't want to buy another 360 version JUST IN CASE he gives me back my game. So I was really looking forward to the ps3 version.
Hey, it will get extra content anyway! ;D
I will never finish this game unless it's released in the usa ON THE PS3!

That's EXACTLY where I stopped, lol. I hated that part...

i knew i wasn't the only one. :)
Vincent @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:27PM
Wow this fucking sucks cock. M$ and their cheap (or should I say, expensive) business tactics
Matthew M @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:48PM
It isn't Microsoft's fault that it will be Japan only, right?
Vincent @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:19AM
I can't help but think they have something to do with it.
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:48PM
The only reason PS3 might not get Eternal Sonata in the US is because Sony doesn't think it would make money here, Microsoft has nothing to do with it.
kiwidust @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:36PM
Damn... and I've been waiting for this! I'd hate to be forced to get this on the 360 (since I've yet to get through any long game without needing a new XBox).
If the game is released in English (even if only subtitled) I'll happily import.
deusmecha @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:54PM
This fucking RPG drought has gone on long enough.
If I don't start seeing some soon, I'm nabbing a 360.
J @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:59PM
stay strong...
or get a psp. plenty of good released and upcoming rpg's. PLENTY
eternal sonata does look purty though.
If you can't wait, then just get a 360, and don't tell us you did. Save us the grief.
please
doc j @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:19PM
Get a PSP ... they rock the RPGs
Kabapu @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:05PM
There's really no reason *not* to release it everywhere. They've already got 95% of it localized and in English. All they'd need to do would be spend the very small fixed cost for the added content and they'd be good to go.
This is one of the few games I was actually looking forward to purchasing.
They'd better release it.
linton @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:33PM
I wonder if any of you remember the early PS2 years, specifically
The 1st 2?, well i do - we waited for months on end for games to get released from japan and they always and I mean ALWAYS were late, some even by a full year or more, RPG's were the worst for coming to us because of the translation which always took forever or they thought it would never sell in the states! - well fuck the states, its europe that wants these game more. I'm still pissed they didn't release Parasite eve 1 and Tobal 2 here because of poor sales in the fuckin states(ok they are PS1 games but you get my point), Thank goodness for Koei.....even though they are well slow AND where's warship gunner 2 for PAL ps2's Koei? Grrrrr
-Jad- @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:34PM
I hope the Japanese version include english subtitles on both language and in-gameplay... I don't care about the VA anyway.
doc j @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:38PM
This is stupid.
I hope the Japanese version has English subtitles.
agq0105 @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:56PM
This sucks, there hasn't been a good RPG for the PS3 that's kept me playing for long.
fernando @ Jun 2nd 2008 10:58PM
So glad a ihave a 360 for my rpg fix this gen, Dissapointed how smaller rpgs had shafted the PS3 with FFXIII so far off and white knight story in limbo, maybe next year i'll buy one.
Amos @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:44AM
Namco Bandai are a bunch of *ssholes. I loved the Xenosaga series, but then they cut the series short, and released new Ace Combat and Katamari games exclusively for the 360. And what does the PS3 get? MSG: Crossfire and Ridge Racer 7 (which was a little too similar to RR6). Namco Bandai doesn't give a crap about the PS3 and I hope they get bought out by another company. /end rant/
B-way @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:55PM

It isn't Microsoft's fault that it will be Japan only, right?
Yes. Yes it is. Its already translated and dubbed. The only reason for them not to release it in the US is MS is paying for US exclusivity.
Coffeendddonuts @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:33AM
I don't mean to get anyone's hopes up, but I just visited IGN's website and went to their PS3 section. On top of them giving MGS4 an awsome review, they also had a list of upcoming games for the US. One of them happened to be Eternal Sonata and is listed as TBA 2009. They also have Dark Mist listed as sometime 2008. Don't yell at me if it turns out to be wrong, but there might just be a bit of hope here. Remeber, IGN and then PS3 section and U.S. release dates. I don't know how to link so sorry if I'm a bit long winded.
maskedrose @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:07AM
Whatever. Go Blow M$. I have my PSP for my rpg fix until Sony starts playing the dirty game and buys exclusives.. then we'll see everyone crawling to our big black................
B-way @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:43AM
Dark Mist is a shooter that just happens to look like old Zelda. Its not an rpg in any meaningful way. I bought it off the jpsn site along with all the snk ps1 games.
At least we have Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Fallout 3, and White Knight Chronicles this fall to hold us until FFXIII drops next years. Actually, Disgaea 3 alone would probably be enough to keep you occupied :P
vasago @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:03AM
its like everthing else they only want to sell games outside of japan that are likely to sell very well we (europe)get a rather small pecentage of games especially RPG's compared to the usa.it's been like that since the ps1 .look at battle fantasia no-one but japans getting that ...why .Cant inport i dont speak japanese and if the ps3 is an international machine why cant the games be played internationally
SilentSeeD @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:16AM
The lack of ps3 rpgs is really annoying and this one I was looking forward to having released. Either way if the japanese game does have english subs than its not a problem at all. However the whole lack of caring to send rpgs to the states really pisses me off. I don't care about fps games or anything thing that at all. I just want decent rpgs.
drdre74 @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:15AM
Game wasnt a must have anyway. It was so so on the 360. They can keep it.
Banditking @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:25AM
I am seriously starting to see a conspiracy with Namco. First Ace Combat then Eternal Sonata, then No news on Tekken 6 home version then Tales of Vesperia, then I read that SoulCalibur 4 plays worse on PS3, and now this final nail in the coffin, I think they jumped ship. Much like Sega did this time (they made almost all their big games Xbox 1 exclusive last go around and now almost anything worth getting from Sega is either exclusive or day and dat with the 360 ver.)
jeremy @ Jun 16th 2008 12:42AM
I was surprised to hear this, but at the same time I'm not. The exact same thing happened to Tales of Symphonia; it was first available to the gamecube only and then it made its way to the Ps2 (which was a japan exclusive verison). ...this next-gen battle has gotten pretty messy, hasn't it?
