A few months ago, we
reported that
SOCOM Confrontation will release in retail stores with a brand new Bluetooth headset for $60 -- it's a similar package to the one crafted for
Warhawk, but this new headset will be officially PlayStation-branded. An e-mail about an upcoming
SOCOM media event made quick mention of the device, confirming its existence, but offered no new details. We hope to get some pictures and some ears-on time with the new headset later this month.

Now THAT'S a bluetooth headset... MGS4 headset be damned!
Congrats, SOCOM... I am now buying the boxed version.
reson8er @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:50PM
Looks good, I'm glad I held out from getting the one boxed with Warhawk (though I did get the retail version).
I really like that the Mute button is big.
I hope it performs as good as it looks.
BSTKiller @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:38PM
@Nick...
Or it results in games like last night where one guy spent 10 minutes chanting "I'm the best" and 5 other guys were shouting "Shut the f**k" up....real fun.
DjDATZ @ Jun 4th 2008 11:30AM
HOT DAMN. I would get this game even though I don't own a PS3 just for the headset! (After all, I wouldn't be surprised if it worked with my SONY-Ericsson W810i...LOL)
AnimaOnline @ Jun 19th 2008 10:11AM
Yeah I'm done with Bluetooth headsets.
No matter how many times they say "this one works great" it's never true. I've bought so many and they all resort in "what did you say?"
Im sticking with USB. No need to worry about battery life either.
On top of this if a game is open to Store download then I'm downloading it. I love being able to play it from my HDD with out having to reach for the damn disc.
drdre74 @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:49PM
I hope it sells pretty cheap as a solo product also. Thats the main thing i hate about PS3 is that most people online dont have headsets. Yeah its a gift and a curse since most people are buttholes online but there are times people play as a team on COD4 and you need to communicate.
frankym @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:56PM
I'm with you dude. I plan on downloading this game as I did with Warhawk. I love the convenience of having these titles on my hard drive.
Please make this reasonably priced as a SOLO option as well Sony!!
True_Darknight @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:59PM
Well another big problem is that not all Headsets work well so people give up on trying!!!!.. I hope they release a detailed pictured instructions for people to set it up.

King of headquarters!!!! - add me up!
Nick @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:10PM
Agreed. I think one of the main downfalls of the PS3 was the lack of including a headset with the console. It may seem like a minuscule thing. But the ease of communication on the 360 is one thing that promotes a social network that PSN lacks. If you have played some of these games on both systems, specifically something like COD4 where team communication is a must, you will notice that a much higher amount of users on the 360 are always wired up. This results in a better in game experience.
TriFF51 @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:56PM
its about time sony put out an official headset for ps3...i hope they eventually sell it seperately because we need more ppl with mics online.....thats one area where socom is amazing, basically everyone has a headset.
TriFF51 @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:57PM
i would love it if they put out a blu tooth headset where the mouth piece wrapped around to ur mouth like a typical headset, i feel like the quality would be much better.
Carney @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:34PM
I agree strongly with this. Until I lost it :( I had a huge Captain Dork style headset with a fuzzy mike ball on a boom that went all the way out and curved in so it was right in front of my mouth. I used it for my cell phone and occassionally as a hands free phone for my landline (a cordless I could clip to my belt).
There was no comparison in the sound quality of this headset compared to the cheapo ones others settle for.
Erwos @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:58PM
If that's a charging base, I'm sold.
anthonyjh @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:20PM
I hope they start including them with PS3s.
Gaucho @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:27PM
Ugh . . . the bluetooth is very nice but I'm not the biggest SOCOM fan. If they sold it separately for the cheaps I would def. get it . . . I really dont want to spend money on a game i won't like for the headset . . . as awesome as it may be.
kool_ade13 @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:20PM
Looks awesome. Hope the sound quailty is killer.
drdre74 @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:18PM
How is home going to work? Since such a small base of PS3 owners even have a headset. They have to sell this solo.
Mattchewie @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:37PM
Looks good if thats the actual headset. However I wish sony would also brand up a conventional headset ala xbox for us big eared folk :D.
Niko_Bellic @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:37PM
@Nick. Better? Really? I dont know about that. There are so many a**holes out there, sometimes I feel like it's all for the best. ..... Anyhow, I have the Warhawk headset, and I've been considering upgrading to the PSeye. The battery life on the Jabra isn't the greatest, and I like the idea of having the camera and mic there at all times. If only the ps3 had a USB in the back, I wouldn't have to deal with all those dastardly wires.
josh @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:31PM
the only problem with the eye (and the eyetoy) is that, because the sound is coming out of your TV it is common for that sound to echo back into the eye. Essentially Ill say something and then a second later ill hear what i just said in my headset. This is incredibly annoying and i often have to mute the guy who's eye does it.
Barry32171 @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:40PM
I wonder why there was this much delay? Hell, I just got the Gameshark headset, and would have preferred this PS version instead... The GS set is good, nothing to complain about, but the PS one looks cool.
One of these days, corporations will quit nickeling and diming us... Oh, wait. No, that won't ever happen. P)
Popfrogs @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:30PM
All I want is a headset with a big knob for volume and a big knob for mic sensitivity. It seems like these features are too much to ask for from any manufacturer.
I quit using my BT headset in COD4 because the mic was too sensitive, it'd cause echo and that's one of my pet peeves with mic users. The endless echo from 2 nimrods using mics is unbearable.
Daniel @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:54PM
Isn't there a mic sensitivity option in the actual settings of your headset in the XMB? I could have sworn there was when I set mine up for Warhawk.
Popfrogs @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:34PM
Yeah it doesn't seem to do much. I don't even think COD4 bothered including this, or rumble for that matter.
r.crisp @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:59PM
This may be a little tangental to the OP, but I think it's worth saying.
I work for GAME (sales assistant - shit job but fun), and I've tried alot of the headsets available, not just from GAME either. This headset - http://www.game.co.uk/PS3/Hardware/Accessory/~r332769/GioTeck-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headset/ - is the best quality headset I've used so far (wireless anyway). My girlfriend, myself and my brother all use this headset for Team Tac on CoD4 and I've never noticed any feedback except for when I turn my TV up too loud and they complain at me xD
BTW I'm not advertising for GAME, you can buy it from HMV if you want just trying to be helpful
josh @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:28PM
im interested in getting the logitech cordless vantage headset. the only problem is it is very expensive. Anyone have one? is it worth the $80? if not then i can pretty much guarantee ill be getting the SOCOM box.
I hope when the in-game XMB finally shows up (2 weeks? ) that you will be able to switch headsets in the middle of the game. My Jabra's battery has died in the middle of so many Resistance matches, it'd be nice if i could pair a different headset without exitting my game.
Niko_Bellic @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:04PM
Hey, thanks dude. I always wondered why I could hear my voice echo in the background every so often. REALLY ANNOYING!!! I guess I might have to reconsider.
chuck @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:16PM
vWTFFFF!!! I got my bluetooth headset from E-BAY for $15 sship it is a motoroal H700 it work great with my ps3 but we all know that u have to charge them so somethime i fforget so i went and got the sony eye-toy too and i use tthat for a mic when i'am play online i just plug and play and ii JUST $40 But i like the sony bluetooth hesadset it look goood i like the mute button i will be getting this with the game ..
DjDATZ @ Jun 4th 2008 11:33AM
it'd be awefully nice if you included at least some form of punctuation in that 7 line sentence. LOL
Sveppi @ Jun 3rd 2008 7:21PM
Wow, sexy headset :P
PSN:FatalAssassin XBL:Fata7assassin @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:23PM
omg its beautiful
lol like my ex gf
JoJo @ Jun 4th 2008 10:14AM
so your saying...
$60 for the game and it comes with a headset??
or seperatly?? eh?? eh?? it would be nice
if it came all together!!
josh @ Jun 5th 2008 4:09AM
$60 for the set. The game by itself will be $40 on PSN. Just like warhawk.
Miguel @ Jun 4th 2008 10:22AM
I wonder if this will work with cell phones as cell phone headsets work with the ps3?
Puntachu @ Jun 4th 2008 11:58AM
I think thats a generally accepted thing... if it's supposed to work with a BT headset, then nearly any BT headset will do the job. Not saying it will do it just as well (thats a quality issue) but it should work in general.
Eternal @ Jun 4th 2008 12:27PM
Looking at that brings back memories of me and my old clan buddies play Hours of Socom 2 we would be stuck playing on Enowapi, and Desert Glory. I used to have the Headset and it would break like every two weeks or so i hope this headset isn't made like that i can recall constant trips to gamestop to make uncountable numbers of exchanges for my dumb PS2 headset that long wire would trip me up all the time.
nick @ Jun 30th 2008 6:34PM
Will you be able to use the bluetooth on the left ear as well? I can
tell it is for right ears but will the ear thing pop off and can pop
it back on the other side for left ear use?
thanks
nick
