Survey asks for opinions on Rock Band 2 art
Considering its success, Rock Band 2 shouldn't come as a surprise. An anonymous tipster sent Joystiq a few conceptual images used in a survey about a potential sequel to Harmonix's peripheral party game. Previous surveys revealed Rock Band 2 may feature an enhanced World Tour mode, with the ability to record music videos and hire staff members. Battle of the Bands and drum trainer modes are also rumored to be included in a sequel.
While nothing concrete has been confirmed by Harmonix, these early leaks seem quite plausible. We're hoping that, unlike Guitar Hero, DLC from the original Rock Band can be safely played in any future iterations of the franchise. If not, we're certain there's going to be a lot of angry rockers out there.

I wish I could play the first rock band. It only just came out in UK, and i'm not a freakin' millionaire.

If you have a PS3 you can always import the US version

I wonder if DLC is going to end... Or if the two will be compatible.. Or what is going on.. Better not require a new drum kit with a second pedal or some shit... I'll be pissed.

Biggest flaw with the cover art. They're playing with real instruments

Better still, all new DLC will still work w/ old rock bands....
Im not upgrading, dont' need to make my own music, i don't play single player, its just 4 player kareokee for me.
If they did need to up the anty. Just add a piano, or sell a kit that adds onto the exisiting drum set too. BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY IS KEY.
90% of people who would buy a Band Game have bought it, and a very little % will buy a 2nd one.

My guess is the dlc should be backwards compatible since the game engine used in Rock Band 2 can't be that far off from Rock Band 1.
Also, instruments should be fine. Although I would trade in my strat for the 2.0 version if the strum bar and build quality is better.
My guess is that all the original drum kit will need is add on cymbals if that.
For most people all they will need to do is buy the disc. Which isn't bad considering that everything will work fine.
But the 58 songs on the disc probably won't work in RB2 unless there is a ripping method or hot swapping.

Oh i like that idea for hot swapping discs. If on the top of the setlist there was a little button to press to send the game into a standby mode and pop in the first game, that would be ideal.
I think that harmonix would gladly let us use the DLC from RB1 for RB2 but they might end up in a situation where they have to pay license fees again for the new game. Thats the only thing that would stand in their way.
The thing I am most impressed about is that these guys can be busy making whole albums for DLC, and pop out at least 3 songs a week, but also be working on another 60 song disc. This really puts Activision to shame. I hope that we hear something about this in E3 this year.

Wow, maybe Rock Band 2 will be released before Rock Band is released for PS3 in the UK! 7 months?! whats up with that!

I am a Rockband owner, and I think it’s great. Here lately though, the downloadable content has been less than exciting.
I would buy a new Rockband 2 disc for $60 if there is enough new to warrant the price. One thing I will NOT do is buy a whole new Rockband set for the same price I paid for the first. I am hoping for new instruments that I can buy and attach to my existing setup.
When I go back and look at the amount of money I have spent on the current DLC songs for Rockband, I am a little shocked. In total I have spent close to $300 just to experience this game. I will not do this again.
I have played quite a bit and all my instruments are still in good working condition. I really don’t have a need to buy new instruments. I might consider buying a new drum set with symbols. The Guitar Hero IV drums look awesome. Rockband would be shooting themselves in the foot by not allowing backward compatibility. They have the greatest edge with their game on the market first. If they do BC where Guitar Hero does not, then they would have an even bigger edge.

My opinion is "Shop Rock Band 1 to New Zealand first you fuck-knuckles".

I don't look to see the download content to roll over to RB2 because harmonix would have to relicense it. don't count on harmonix to pay for it.
