New Afrika trailer and Japanese release date
No, you're not dreaming. This is gameplay footage of Afrika -- and when we say "gameplay" we don't mean "in-engine animal animations." This trailer actually shows the protagonist and actual gameplay mechanics and everything. Sadly, our dreams of a secret mutation laboratory where animal DNA is combined to form hideous Saharan monsters were all for naught. This is Pokemon Snap for adults.
The Japanese release date has also been revealed as August 28th. There's no word on an American release yet, but SCEE has said that a European release won't be happening. Chances are this game might not make it out of Japan, which would be a shame. Check out the official website for more info.

This game looks absolutely amazing! Probably wouldn't buy it but I would definitely rent it to play with my GF. No one can dismiss the amazing visuals its just too beautiful.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Jun 7th 2008 3:11AM
I wouldn't say they're amazing - Uncharted visuals are amazing.
but the animal animations are amazingly natural
golden sapphire @ Jun 6th 2008 12:55PM

Jerses @ Jun 6th 2008 1:33PM
Looks cool, it just need a tranquilizer gun, traps, sniper rifles, barrels with gasoline near animals and gameplay... then ill buy this.
Devin @ Jun 6th 2008 2:05PM
No, you are mistaken. That would be Far Cry 2!
Jerses @ Jun 6th 2008 2:35PM
oh yeah... farcry 2 is in "africa"... well let me see... animals...guns...nah all games need guns and something to shoot at. This game need guns...you know...to see how animals react to gun shots and sudden dead :P
adolson @ Jun 6th 2008 2:46PM
Isn't RE5 in Africa too? What's with Africa all of a sudden? Are these games even coming out in Africa? What do Africans have to say about all of this?
Popfrogs @ Jun 7th 2008 12:52PM
@adolson: "Fubada fumbeday *click click*"
havs @ Jun 6th 2008 1:46PM
yeah hopefully there are ways to interact with the environment and animals, but hey!! if it doesn't make it out of japan it may be worth importing' exploring and watching animal ai's hunt each other and stuff, sounds cool to me.
Devin @ Jun 6th 2008 2:06PM
Why was the text "Coming Soon" all in English on Japan's website? if it wasn't meant for American hands?
PSN:FatalAssassin XBL:Fata7assassin @ Jun 6th 2008 8:36PM
japanese are made to learn english when there in there wee bits of school age:)
i think america should also do this
snake79 @ Jun 8th 2008 4:08AM
for some reason i'm very interested in this game. maybe i like animals or maybe i like photographing or maybe both. or maybe cause I always have this dream to become a discovery or NGEO photographer. :P
soya @ Jun 6th 2008 2:26PM
I would get this, simply to try and take on a lion!
Daniel @ Jun 6th 2008 2:34PM
I wish they'd make an animal wrestling game. That would be awesome. I'd wrestle bears exclusively.
Jerses @ Jun 6th 2008 2:43PM
lion vs bear vs human with camara...
That man with the camara sure knows how to sufer in the sun with the sweeter and the hat... where is the winter?
Phil @ Jun 6th 2008 3:20PM
SCEE FTW!
No more Getaway, no more Eight Days (was it any good??) and now we don't get Afrika... clearly the best Store updates weekly in the world... on any platform...
What a region to live...
I can't help but wonder if the PS3 would be a lot more popular if we actually had the above 4 things...
Brian Spence @ Jun 6th 2008 3:32PM
This LOOKED good, early on, but there's almost no environment for these nice animal models to live in. Where's the grass? The water looks kinda blah, and the fact that we're two months from release and we know so little about it makes me think that this thing will be DOA. Too bad, the concept had a lot of promise.
Kodros @ Jun 6th 2008 4:02PM
You do realize that not all of Africa has grass right?
Brad @ Jun 6th 2008 4:15PM
PLEASE RELEASE THIS IN THE US!
Should be an easy thing to release on PSN....
chimaera9 @ Jun 6th 2008 5:34PM
I'll definitely buy this--I love games that break the mold, and this one will be great to play with my daughter, too--she loves animals. To be able to semi-experience Africa without actually having to go there (I hate traveling, and I hate warm weather) is awesome, in my opinion.
Daniel @ Jun 6th 2008 10:43PM
Damn, I want this game so bad. Hopefully it comes out in the US
Havok @ Jun 6th 2008 9:53PM
How much could it really cost to upload this to the us psn store and sell it for $20. It would seem like they dont like money or something not to utilize downloads in foreign markets. It it doesnt sell who cares. If it makes some money send me some.
Moe-Ali @ Jun 7th 2008 12:35AM
wow the graphics blow me away ... oh yeah u know how they said sony doesn't come up with their own ideas > for example motion sensing> look at this
JaseH @ Jun 7th 2008 7:07AM
WHAT THE HELL SONY!!!
Ive always been passionate about animals my whole life. In fact I'm going away to study anything to do with them!!
Finally after so long, there is a game that caters to both of my hobbies.
# Animals
# Photography.
And what happens???.. EUROPE REGION doesnt get it!
Arggghh... This would have appealed to so many people. I hope the Australia isn't tied up with the European again... sometimes Aust gets a few things before any other region. Buzz & the like. C'mon Japan!!... you know you Oceania!!
I hope hope hope its released in the US eventually... then I can have a CHANCE to import a english version. I guess it's time to learn Japanese if I want to be a PS3 gamer...
*Sigh*
Someone really needs to open up a PETITION for this... I'd sign it for sure.
I'll miss you AFRIKA.
