We take an in-depth look at Qore
Qore definitely looks interesting, but is it worth the price of admission? We've gone in depth with the "Digizine" to bring you a taste so that you can decide for yourself. Check out our gallery below to see a large number of screenshots of Qore in action, along with some useful info to help you make your mind up. In our heads, it's a great deal for only $3.

With all the adverts, why can't they offer this for free?
adolson @ Jun 6th 2008 10:30AM
Future US is a business and they want to make money? Just my guess....
Probably the same reason why they don't just give away the print magazines that they publish, such as Nintendo Power and PC Gamer, which also have ads.
Double @ Jun 6th 2008 10:38AM
I agree, you shouldn't have to pay if they are going to pop up ads. That's what wrong with Television.
Devin @ Jun 6th 2008 10:38AM
No offense, but this is not an online gaming magazine. I don't see game reviews, news or articles pertaining to hardware. This is why I don't feel like they should be making this a pay-to-view thing, especially with that big-a** BK ad.
Sony can make their profit in other ways, like giving people more reason to buy their console (which in turn means buying software) by offering this content for free.
Is this content going to be timed-exclusive to Qore or will it never hit the "public" PSN?
JoJo @ Jun 6th 2008 10:22AM
What a waste of space on the PSN.
Brodie-san @ Jun 6th 2008 10:24AM
Eh ... maybe a 3rd radio button is needed in that poll.
"Or a are you not in the U.S. and therefore DESPISED by Sony?"
I'm joking ... kinda.
Brodie-san @ Jun 6th 2008 10:25AM
Ignore my bad typing. Actually, just ignore me.
Vincent @ Jun 6th 2008 10:48AM
Actually I'm with you on this :(
Eggy @ Jun 6th 2008 10:47AM
Depends on the games they're covering. It would be nice to have the option of getting it but I gave up on SCEE a long time ago.
I'm definately interested in SOCOM and the goodies included with this digital mag episode.
digiboi @ Jun 6th 2008 10:52AM
No way am I going to pay to get a demo 1 week early. guess I'm not a hard-qore ps3fanboy.
Let the fansites get qore and filter the good and the bad. The only way this will ever sell is if they drop a heavily anticipated demo only to qore users or better demos (longer playtime, deeper experience, Home beta, etc.)
wonway01 @ Jun 6th 2008 11:10AM
I understand micro transactions are part of life and will be more and more and I don't even mind playing for good content but did I read it was 2.99 an episode? That seems kida steep. You can save if you but the year but you dont even really know if what your buying is worth is as you dont know whats coming.
JayD-1K @ Jun 6th 2008 2:17PM
i just bought a playstation magazine for twice that at wal-mart! 3 bucks is fine for what it is.
Kodros @ Jun 6th 2008 3:37PM
$3 for 1-2 hours worth of content is a great deal.
JimmyD @ Jun 6th 2008 11:17AM
It's not really any different to buying the offical mag which in the UK is £6 with demo's you get for free on the psn (and normally are already available for free) and are filled with adds. Both are made by Future not Sony. Yet the mag costs 4 times the price ($3 = about £1.50). Personally I wouldn't buy either. But I don't see what this is as being over priced compared to the equivilent.
DjDATZ @ Jun 6th 2008 11:23AM
I wouldn't mind seeing something like this on XBLM...
As weird as this sounds, this would probably a good reason (for me at least) to get a PS3. It looks quite cool actually. :D
Byron517 @ Jun 6th 2008 12:20PM
I will wait to see what else is released before I pass my judgement.. it has potential but right now I don't find it appealing for me to buy
koehler83 @ Jun 6th 2008 12:21PM
Can I watch this on the can via Remote Play? No? Then its worthless.
Magazines only serve one purpose and its NOT for viewing on TV.. this is just retarded.
binaryfiend @ Jun 7th 2008 12:56PM
I think the text would be too small to read via Remote Play.
RazLeboL @ Jun 6th 2008 11:41AM
Bought it. It will be the last time I buy it unless there is some nice game or beta bonus with it.
Gabriel @ Jun 6th 2008 11:42AM
This is such a freaking waste. For less than $25 a year, I can subscribe to another game mag and get MUCH MORE. I thought Qore would have a little bit more, but right now its nothing more than a prettier version of the Video section of XBLM.
This is by far the most pointless venture Sony has ever undertaken. I hope that they aren't getting desperate for profit on the PS3.
baby sea tuna @ Jun 6th 2008 1:35PM
Out of curiosity, what other game mag can you subscribe to and get "MUCH MORE"? I ask this as a subscriber to EGM (with which you get only slightly more content than the 1up website offers) and Official Xbox Mag (which comes with discs that have basically the same demos and videos I can get for free off of LIVE). It seems like this is pretty well packaged and would be worth $2-3 a month if you're genuinely interested in what's going on in the world of Playstation.
I'm considering d/l'ing this.
Danie @ Jun 6th 2008 2:05PM
I really want to know what other game mag you can subscribe to and get "MUCH MORE". I mean, really.
JJ @ Jun 6th 2008 11:53AM
hmm... looks promising but I'll have to wait until I see more before I start doing the annual thing.
John S @ Jun 6th 2008 11:58AM
Waste.
Christian @ Jun 6th 2008 12:22PM
Not being in the US I haven't been able to take a look. I would have to say that if I could I would probably have bought one episode just to get an idea about what it is about.
In general I wouldn't be against paying for such a video magazine if I thought it was good and interesting. But it would have to include quite a bit of original programming for that to be the case. Demos and trailers I can get tons of elsewhere for free. So it would need to be instead interesting interviews etc.
Brodie-san @ Jun 6th 2008 1:00PM
Europe will get their own Qore. It will be called "Le Qoré", cost about 4x the price of the US version and literally be the exact same content that was released 6 months previously on its American counterpart.
AND WE'LL LOVE IT ! ! ! !
the_culture @ Jun 6th 2008 12:01PM
Can the ads be skipped? I hear people saying Qore is just like a normal mag with ads. But with a mag, if I see an ad, I can turn the page and be done with it in less than a second. I don't think it's worth it if you have to sit through the ads...
dazzpfr @ Jun 6th 2008 1:50PM
i'm confused. The pictures said "don't expect us to do this weekly"...hmm I thought it was a monthly "magazine". Are they updating the content weekly?
Deathrace King @ Jun 6th 2008 12:46PM
I don't think the pricing is that bad. For example, the newsstand price of OXM is $9.99 per issue ($119.88 per year) but if you subscribe you get 12 issues for $24.95 (about $2.08 per issue). And OXM very rarely gets any exclusive demos.
Quore is only $2.99 for one issue, but a subscription is $24.99 for 13 issues AND you get a $10 game which makes the subscription really only $15 for 13 issues. If you deduct the $9.99 for Calling All Cars, that's about $1.15 an issue. Not bad.
It would be nice to see if annual subscribers get some other perks throughout the year besides getting Calling All Cars at signup.
dantad @ Jun 6th 2008 12:52PM
I think it looks pretty good, plus with access to betas it seems worth it to me.
Of course we are not even given the option in Europe =(
Archon @ Jun 6th 2008 1:15PM
Whoa... I paid the $3 to see what the buzz is all about and all I can say is... Don't bother.
The host trying to be funny fails miserably. The adult and exquisite form of the Playstation 3 franchise disappears when the whole thing tries to be 'hip and cool'. Also, why do I have to pay for damn ads? It would be ok if the thing was free. But it is not. And: the videos were supposed to be in 'glorious HD'... Maybe they are but I CANT FUC*ING TELL BECAUSE HALF OF THEM RUN IN A WINDOWS ABOUT HALF THE SIZE OF THE SCREEN. And there's even no way to go fullscreen AFAIK. A waste of money. Not only do you have to pay for poor content which itself is a commercial of stuff coming to PS3, you have to watch a second batch of ads just to be able to watch them. And this blows. Big time.
oct @ Jun 6th 2008 6:47PM
I was pretty put off when I read Qore would mean a tiering of content for the PSN, but completely put off when they announced the host. I have seen her on other video podcasts and she is perhaps the most annoying person I've ever seen on a screen.
steve30x @ Jun 6th 2008 1:19PM
As usual europe is left out with this. Sony is just r**ing the europeans. I also agree that this should be free.
Se7enwolf @ Jun 6th 2008 1:35PM
Sony doesn't get any money for the ads because they are all internal ads from Sony themselves trying to sell you their products.
the problem with Qore is that there is nothing in it (so far) that is worth getting it for.
Binaryfiend @ Jun 6th 2008 1:37PM
I bought it. I think it's worth the price for some in depth HD content and some special features. It helped me out with info about future purchases. I don't like the fact that I have to watch commercials. They probably could have put them in another section and I would have watched them anyhow but forcing it in my face only pisses me off. I mean that's why I don't watch TV. That is my only gripe. Otherwise, for someone that can't get enough PS news, this is a good buy.
AlexB @ Jun 6th 2008 2:21PM
It's a really cool feature that shows how much more initiative Sony is taking. But the fact that it is made by a magazine company (Future, Inc.) means that advertisements are inevitable. Hell, even Xbox Live Gold members have to suffer through constant advertisements.
Hopefully as Qore becomes more and more popular though, they'll be able to decrease the number of ads just slightly. Can't wait to see what else Sony has in store for us. I really missed Playstation Underground, so this brings back old memories. =]
baby sea tuna @ Jun 6th 2008 2:45PM
As an 5 year xbox live subscriber, I can tell you that i've never "suffered through" an ad on the service. If they're up on the blades, you can either click them or not. Most of the time they're for demos or trailers or other shit I'm interested in anyway, and if not, I just ignore them. I don't understand how this myth of intrusive ads on live came about, but I can assure you that it's FUD.
Easo @ Jun 6th 2008 3:07PM
He's right, the ads on the 360 interface are Always related directly related to the 360. They either tell you about new game releases or new marketplace content. At the very worst, they will advertise a new dashboard theme or picture pack available for free download but sponsored by McDonald's or the Army.
DaJMan @ Jun 6th 2008 2:44PM
You guys need to shut up. THIS DOES IN FACT COME WITH A BETA BONUS. If any of you paid attention to Socom.com, they have said that if you order the June episode, you get into beta for Socom Confrontation. Now Socom can't be the only game that is going to use this feature for beta invites... i'm sure there will be more Sony exclusive titles to offer similar opportunities. So all in all...$3 to get into Confrontation Beta? Hell YES i'm there! Now quit ur damn whining and dl it!
Easo @ Jun 6th 2008 3:01PM
It looks like "inside xbox " on the 360, only with more ads and since I rarely view "inside xbox" on the 360 for free, I doubt I would pay $3 per month for the same feature on the ps3.
Featherhammer @ Jun 6th 2008 4:00PM
Its not what their selling, its what you're buying. If no one pays for this, maybe they'll cut it out. There is little to no value in this product. Purchasing this just encourages this type of crap.
KiraXD @ Jun 6th 2008 5:33PM
ooh crap... i bought the 25$ annual supscription... i hope it doesnt suck ass...
JaseH @ Jun 7th 2008 4:10AM
I'm sure you'll inevetibly get your money's worth some way or another during those 12 months.
Although, all in all, you should be wise with your money next time. This doesn't go for Qore, it goes for everyhting else in life. You have be sure about things before you make long term decisions.

binaryfiend @ Jun 7th 2008 11:49AM
After checking out only one of those mags I can say that I'd much rather view Qore.
GRT @ Jun 7th 2008 7:09AM
I bought it and watched it.
It took 30-40 minutes to watch everything, including playing around with the slideshows. The downloads are crap (Calling All Cars isn't very good, and the SOCOM beta is just that...a beta, I shouldn't have to pay for it). They cover 5 games in all.
It's just not enough content for the money.
I've heard some rumor of hidden mini-games. Anyone know if they really exist?
J @ Jun 7th 2008 1:17PM
Found a mini-game "Death Orb". Press L2 when on the menu screen.
